chest pain question

Recommended Posts

I was banded on Jan 8. I had my post-op appointment with doctor on the 21st. He suggested first fill for Feb 4. I am happy with my surgery, and the healing since.

Yesterday evening I started experiencing very sharp pains in my chest and upper back. I am not sure what the pain is from... and I have not had any pain since about 4 days post op.

Has anyone experienced this? Any thoughts on what this might be?

Thanks!

Cate

My chiropractor told me it is 'referred' pain from the nerves that connect with the stomach. "Chest Pain" is often the first place that stomach nerve irritations will show up. Hope this helps. BTW, I get regular chiro ajustments after a fill to help...and it does.

It may be referred pain from your diaphragm but call your surgeon on monday to be sure. Chest pain is NEVER anything to fool around with, especially as we approach our mid 30-s and beyond.

I agree with Restless, don't mess around with the ticker. If you have any history/family history of HBP, heart disease, you get in there right away. If it's your stomach, well, you'll get to feel sheepish in front of the ER staff. If it's your heart, you'll be damn glad you went. Keep aspirin on hand, too.

I was banded January 12th and have not yet had my first fill. I have found that even though I don't feel much of any restriction I have come to learn that there is. If I eat too much in a sitting or once I reverted to an old habit of just taking a chunk of bread that throwing it in my mouth. along with that I did not do the chewing that I normally do and swallowed the bread. I would say about 1 minute later I was feeling some pretty sharp chest pains. It scared me to death.. I did take a small amount of liquid to try to wash the bread down. Once it did, the pain subsided. However it is a bit of a constant little pain when I think that i have over eaten. I am chalking it up to a learning of what will be on my first fill. Of which I am sooo ready for.

On the other hand, I have to tell you that I am such a believer of the Heart Check America. My husband and I went through the very simple process of a full body scan. I being the over weight one was just fine. My husband on the other hand, was an emergency case. we went right to a cardiologist and then right into the hopital for triple by pass. He is not over weight, he is very active and physically fit and was not displaying any symptoms of heart problems. He does on the other hand have family history of heart problems.. We have come to learn that this is not an area to wait and see what happens. If you feel that your pain is not like anything else, I agree get yourself somewhere to check it out!!! Better to be embarassed by the answer than what the other results might be..

Good luck to you..

Thanks to all who have responded.

I don't have a heart issue or a history of a heart issue. However, I appreciate the suggestions and will definitely call my surgeon tomorrow. I see him Wednesday, too!

My thought is that I might have eaten too much and that was the issue. I have been limited my intake to just 1/2 cup at a sitting. And, I have not had a fill so I didn't think I had a restriction. however, I noticed today that I feel it the most after I eat a meal (1/2 cup or less) or drink a large glass of Water, etc.

Thanks again for responding! It means a lot to me to hear from the experienced folks in the crowd!

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
