does anyone know WHY the band is tighter in the morning and then loosens through out the day? Also what causes the hiccups when you are getting full? interesting phenomena.

I have the same thing!

In the morning, i cannot drink Water, only sips! and im usualy thirsty in the morning! not to mention hiccups when i eat something that gets me stuck! LOL!!!

Once, i drank water so fast in the morning, OUCHHH that hurt me sooo bad for like 2 hours! DAMN! its only water

But i don't know why

im 6 days in & i too notice im tighter in the mornings, i know im still healing & swallen etc..once i start moving around for some time i then have a drink...Im doing great apart from the air bubbles, why do they go all the way up to the band & then stop?..please dont say do more walking..ive even started walking on the treadmill to get extra walking in & go for short walks with hubby outside & doing light housework & walk around the home too..Every other bodily part seems to be functioning well on me...I want to Burp!..lol

Your pouch is empty and dry (dehydrated) in the morning which causes that tight feeling. It takes a while to rehydrate, sipping a hot drink helps.

As for the hiccups, your esophagus passes through your diaphragm in to your stomach (pouch) which is just below the diaphragm. When your pouch fills up it puts pressure on your diaphragm resulting in hiccups.

I have the same issues. I drink a warm beverage first thing in the morning and by mid morning I can eat.

Sorry to say Debbie, almost 8 months out and I still cant burp like most people do...not those big ol' belly burps that leave us feeling oh-so relieved. I feel air in my pouch or low in my esophagus and I have to force the air out with using my throat muscles. It is not as productive or satisfying...

First off, Jodi Congrats on an awesome weight loss so far. You've gone wonderful.

I stumbled in this thread after doing a search for hiccups. I almost never hiccuped or burped until I had the band. Now I find myself hiccuping all the time. I take it as a sign that I'm full although sometimes I don't feel full. It is nice having another little signal telling me to stop eating.

I have not noticed that I'm in tight in the morning. I do have some friends from my local support group that mention they are tight in the morning and they have to drink something warm.

I do have a question - I have this weird feeling and I'm not sure what it is. It's almost like a hiccup, burp and maybe even reflux all in one? It's not like the reflux I used to have - it never gets very high and it doesn't burn but it feels like the start of reflux but sort of like a burp and a hiccup also but nothing fully. Does anyone else experience something like this?

Auggies, thanks for the congrats...I love the band!

Does this happen after eating/drinking or just in general?

My guess would be that maybe you ate just a little too much.
