I put no but that's because my doctor prescribed me with an antacid to prevent it in the first place. I had to take it everyday from day one so I don't know. I only suffer if I have orange juice or lemonade, which I steer clear of.

I had it before surgery almost daily. Right after surgery I didn't have it at all it was gone......now its back after my 2nd fill. Sometimes it's waking me up in the early morning with an acidy mouth and throat...almost as if I've thrown up already. Not pleasant at all and much different from my pre-band acid reflux.

I started having reflux about 5 months after surgery....first time in my life. My PCP gave me some sample Protonix and it has helped but still have some every now and then.. Can't relate it to any kind of food in particular but it's miserable, isn't it.

I too had it pre banding but have not had it since. Question: How do you tqake multiple meds? I too have fibromyalgia etc. I take my blood pressure night med then drink a small glass of Water to be sure it is through then take the next and drink less water as it is a small pill. However, I have quit some of my meds beause I am afraid of them sticking.

I had it for about 15 yrs. I was on Prevacid. When I was banded 10/31/06, My surgeon put me on Pepcid Complete. I guess he gave it to me for the Calcium too.

I hve not had a problem. Shirley...

I've been banded since 6/2005, never had reflux or heartburn before surgery and now all of a sudden i have it. I am a year and a half post surgery and now i get it??? I am worried. It is very mild. Reflux maybe one a month. Today i have had heartburn after almost everything even Water. Should i be worried?

I've had it pre-band for about 20 yrs. After my c-section, I was able to completely stop all meds - it seemed gone. (Probably due to swelling around the valve area). About 8 months after the c-section, it started coming back mild. I can fix it with Tums.

My surgeon checks you during the surgery and if he finds a hiatal hernia or something (which I used to have), that usually causes GERD, then he'll repair it before he puts the band on.

I haven't had the band yet, but I'm hoping it causes the GERD to vanish completely. It is an absolutely miserable thing to have.

I had never had relux before banding, but it started at about 5 months post....about when I began to get brave with more foods, I guess. My PCP put me on Protonix and it helped somewhat, but after about 3-4 months of Pbing and misery, I have learned a few things, too.....I learned not to take my arthritis meds on an empty stomach, I've switched to Foger's Smooth (reduced acid coffee) and cut back on my coffee, I've cut back on citrus, Tomato based products, and straight chocolate (I was nibbling on SF dark chocolate...that was the worst!). Pouch is much happier now!!

When I saw my fill doctor last week I told him about it and he said, "Yep, that's just the band doing that to you." So I assume from his comment that it's pretty common. I understand many surgeons routinely give wls patients Protonix or something similar for several months after surgery.

i had it PREOP..way before preop, really bad especially at night. Since banding, i havent had one single episode.

I do however, gurgle sometimes and some nitwit at a meeting said THAT was acid reflux...like i didnt know what reflux was...but this gurgling isnt unpleasant or produce acid in anyway, and actually feels like a relief. it comes after i eat softsolids like poached eggs, oatmeal or uncondensed Soup.

sounds like babyfood sliding down a pvc pipe. lol

was that tmi?

I had reflux and took Nexium daily or died and the Dr repaired my Hiatal hernia and I have been wonderful and off medication since the first week after my surgery. Amen! The Dr told me he it would work that way I really didn't believe him but it was true. I have also been able to cut my hormone Med in half and hoping to get rid of that too as I lose more weight.

Still purging all of the larger clothing. This morning, a shirt that I ADORED wearing ended up on top. Hard to let it go, but it was also hard to let go of those habits that also no longer serve my highest good. Onward and upward!

Well, tomorrow I go in for an impromptu hiatal hernia repair after ending up in the ER over the weekend because I couldn't get food down and water was moving at a trickle... I've been having these symptoms on and off for a few weeks but Sunday was the worst by far and came with chest pain and trouble breathing. The ER PA thinks it is just esophagitis and that the surgeon and radiologist are wrong. But the bariatric surgeon swears it is a hernia, possibly a sliding one based on my symptoms. So he fit me into his schedule this week to repair it! I hope he's right and this sorts it out. He's going to do a scope afterwards to be sure there is nothing wrong with the esophagus. Here's hoping it all goes well!!
