New and getting the band next week

Hi everyone!

My name is Heather and I'm getting the LapBand a week from today!

I have to start the liquid diet and I'm a little nervous. I don't mind the Protein shakes though. I started experimenting last week with fruit and milk. I made Jello with Protein powder tonight. I have to see how it turns out!

Any advice?

Hi Heather, and congrats! I am getting banded on Jan 28th, and am on day 9 of my 14 day pre op liquid diet. I've been doing the EAS Advant-Edge shakes in the morning, and they are pretty good. If you like V-8, that's a great alternative to the sweet stuff (I am much more a salty/savory craver, so I get tired of the fruity/sweet shakes pretty quickly). Also, I found some really awesome, low fat, prepared cream Soups at Whole Foods--Imagine brand. Just heat, add a little seasoning, and they are very flavorful and satisfying (cream of broccoli, sweet corn, tomato, mushroom).

Also--Kefir (a liquid-y yogurt drink) is really good, too. Not as much Protein as the Protein Shakes, but its tasty and filling (they make a "carb-friendly" variety that is very low sugar, too--though the regular is not too bad, sugar/carb-wise), and doesn't leave that kind of funky Protein shake after taste (that's been the worst part of the diet for me).

And I splurged on a bunch of "fancy" teas too--having a cup of hot decaf/herbal tea in the evening before bed really gives me a warm, full feeling and helps curb nighttime cravings.

Hope some of that helps. Please keep in touch and let me know how things are going. Yay for end-of-Jan banders!

Valerie

Hi Heather. I am getting banded on the 27th. I dont know if you are on a full liquid diet or a clear liquid diet. I am on a CLEAR liquid diet + protein shakes. I prefer the Adkins protein shakes-strawberry is my fav in that. I bought some of each though. EAS, Adkins, and Slim Fast makes a Protein Drink now, so I bought vanilla in that kind. I tried to put that kind in a blender with strawberries...and it looked fine for about 60 seconds. Then it started changing consistency to some weird foam like stuff. YUCK. I had throw that away.

I started eating sugar free popsicles last night. That was nice bc I could crunch on something. I also you Sugar Free Koolaid packets in my Water bottles, freeze those a little, and it's like a slushy.

My fav so far is my chicken broth! Yum!!!!

Good luck! May the force be with you.
