How Many cc's in your band and how is

Recommended Posts

Interesting.....my daughter has 8.2 in a 9 cc realize band and no sweet spot. I'm with you Jazzly if this was about simply a diet no one would get the band. My daughter is still not filling up on the 1/2 cup to a cup thing so she is not losing weight. Actually she has starting gaining back and we are 11 months out. I think she had just assumed that it wouldn't work and was going to leave it at that becuase our doc never talked about the sweet spot thing. We only heard about it on the forums, so she didn't know that was supposed to happen and she thought she was just failing at this. Here's what we are going to do. I emailed the doc and basically begged for him to go against his own policy of one fill per month and no more. Every fill we think this will be it and it doesn't make a difference. Is she obeying every rule to a t all the time.....no but she she is hungry. I think she probably is able to each as much as she did before she was banded. She has some occasional discomfort, I think from eating too fast and it comes up, but other than that she doesnt know its there. And she never was a huge eater anyway just not blessed with great metabolism I guess. Anyway the doc emailed me back and said to come in this week and see the nurse practioner and she would draw it all out and see what is really there and it would all be done under flouroscope. I'm am so discouraged. I see people who have reached their goal in this amount of time and she hasn't gotten to her sweet spot yet!! Now doc is rather far away and the weather did set us back probably two visits because we just couldn't get there and once he unfilled her a bit and then the next time put it back so theres two more months..... I am going to demand some things on this visit. Any advise anyone? We go Wednesday.

I was banded Aug. 4 and have not had a fill yet. I sometimes think I have too much restriction but with no fill, nothing can be removed. I just have to be very careful what I eat and how I eat. Amazing how different we can all be!

I have 5 cc's in my Realize Band and I'm finally getting good restriction.

I'm having a little trouble eating spicy foods. Both time's I've tried them I've PB'd

Has anyone else had issues with spicy stuff? I really hope I can learn to tolerate them again, I LOVE spicy foods!

Had my second fill last Tuesday and what a difference!!!!!

4 cc's for the first fill and now an additional 2.7 for a 6.7 total.

Can only eat very small amounts and feel perfectly satisfied. It's really jumped started the weight loss again. 4 pounds since last week.

I have 5cc's in my realize band and I am not getting restriction. I am in the same boat as most of you. It is very frustrating. I have only lost 15 lbs since surgery and most of that was on the liquid diet. I am able to eat more than I want, but I am starting to feel fuller longer. Like most of you, I want the restriction to control the portion. We all know we went this road so the weight would come off slower and healthier, but man this is frustrating.

Yea you might need a few more fills for some reason the realize band needs to be "filled" if you get my drift I was at 7.6 and had no restriction and as soon as he filled me to 8.7ccs I found "restriction" I have been there for 2 months now. :)

Ladyracer, check on getting another fill. At 5cc I had little restriction, but at 6 I am much better. I may have a bit more put in, but I'm going overseas for a month, and don't want to have any issues while I am out of range of my surgeon. I'm scheduled for mid-May to tweak a little. Be patient and work with your surgeon as much as possible. My surgeon says they can't go too fast or you will not keep anything down, so she tries to be "assertive" but not "aggressive." That seems to be working for me. Good luck.

JoanMarie that sounds like good advice. I notice that a lot of people are having a lot of fills in a short time. I am 7 months out and have had only 2 fills for a total of 5 cc's. I am still loosing very slowly but I am going to have another fill in April. I hope that will help with my loss which had been slow lately.

Im 4 months out. Ive had 3 fills, one unfill due to swelling (4cc, 3cc, -1cc, +1cc) so 7cc total. I just found restriction with this last fill but I do feel like I need another small fill to give me a little more restriction. My next appointment is in a little more than a week.

I went for my fill yesterday. Last free one. I watched as my doctors PA drew out 4 cc which was supposed to be 5 and then he put in an additional .6. I said so now I have 4.6 and he said oh no, it is 5.6. Now I know that the material could have absorbed some of the liquid but when you pull out 4 to me that means you have 4. He wouldn't give me anymore because under the flouriscope it didn't look like it was going through well. I am so totally under the impression that medical is always looking for the buck. I am sure I will have to go back for a fill or two and pay for it. It is so discouraging. Today I am on liquids so I really don't know how this will affect me. Everything is sliding through today.

Hi, how's everyone doing? I also have realize band and my doctor said that my band could fill maximum 11 cc. So far I've had two fills that total 4.9 cc. My first fill was pretty aggressive - 4.4 cc. But I only felt somewhat restriction for the first 3-4 days. As time progressed on, I was able to eat more and more (almost of the same amount before the banding except I am not eating any rice or bread or starchy vege). I was also able to keep everything down. I too love spicy food and I have no problem eating them. I went back and got my second fill on Friday - 4/24/09. The PA only gave me 0.5 cc coz she didn't want to hurt me. For the past two days, I was on liquid diet and I was so hungry from time to time. Today I started on soft food (fish, tofu, cheese and soft vege). I am still able to eat more than I am supposed to - around total 4-5 OZ of food per meal. But I do eat less than after the first fill. Hopefully my appetite and portion size won't go up later this week like after my first fill. Anyway I've scheduled another fill in May. I have 2-3 free fills before 06/09/09.

Labbandmom, how is your daughter doing right now? I heard on the forum that someone didn't feel any restriction until got filled with 10 cc in a realize band. However, after she reaches the sweet spot, the weight is coming off of her like Water. Your daughter probably just needs another fill. Ask her doctor what is the maximum size that she could be filled up to.

Snow and Heschet, have you had another fill yet? Did it work?

Desertwoman, are you on solid now? Do you have restriction? Good Luck.

Jude, are you allowed to get a fill every week? My doctor lets us to have a fill every two weeks. I also don't have enough restriction yet. I still eat large portion but I stay full longer than before.

Iʻm roughly 6 weeks post-op this morning and have begun to feel like a normal human, with a normal human body again. I started introducing solid foods and pill forms of medications/supplements a couple of weeks ago and it's really amazing to eat meals with my family again, despite the fact that my portions are so much smaller than theirs.
I live on the island of Oʻahu and spend a lot of time in the water- for exercise, for play,  and for spiritual & mental health. The day I had my month out appointment with my surgeon, I packed all my gear in my truck, anticipating his permission to get back in the ocean. The minute I walked out of that hospital I drove straight to the shore and got in that water. Hallelujah! My appointment was at 10 am. I didn't get home until after 5 pm.
I'm down 31 pounds since the day of surgery and 47 since my pre-op diet began, with that typical week long stall occurring at three weeks. I'm really starting to see some changes lately- some of my clothing is too big, some fits again. The most drastic changes I notice however are in my face. I've also noticed my endurance and flexibility increasing. I was really starting to be held up physically, and I'm so grateful that I'm seeing that turn around in such short order.
My general disposition lately is hopeful and motivated. The only thing that bugs me on a daily basis still is the way those supplements make my house smell. So stink! But I just bought a smell proof bag online that other people use to put their pot in. My house doesn't stink anymore.

Oh yeah, something I wanted to rant about, a billing dispute that cropped up 3 months ago.
Surgery was in August of 2023. A bill shows up for over $7,000 in January. WTF? I asks myself. I know that I jumped through all of the insurance hoops and verified this and triple checked that, as did the surgeon's office. All was set, and I paid all of the known costs before surgery.
A looong story short, is that an assistant surgeon that was in the process of accepting money from my insurance company touched me while I was under anesthesia. That is what the bill was for. But hey, guess what? Some federal legislation was enacted last year to help patients out when they cannot consent to being touched by someone out of their insurance network. These types of bills fall under something called, "surprise billing," and you don't have to put up with it.
      https://www.cms.gov/nosurprises
I had to make a lot of phone calls to both the surgeon's office and the insurance company and explain my rights and what the maximum out of pocket costs were that I could be liable for. Also had to remind them that it isn't my place to be taking care of all of this and that I was going to escalate things if they could not play nice with one another.
Quick ending is that I don't have to pay that $7,000+. Advocate, advocate, advocate for yourself no matter how long it takes and learn more about this law if you are ever hit with a surprise bill.

Some days I feel like an infiltrator... I'm participating in society as a "thin" person. They have no idea that I haven't always been one of them! 🤣

Thank you everyone for your well wishes! I totally forgot I wrote an update here... I'm one week post op today. I gained 15 lbs in water weight overnight because they had to give me tons of fluids to bring my BP up after surgery! I stayed one night in the hospital. Everything has been fine except I seem to have picked up a bug while I was there and I've been running a low grade fever, coughing, and a sore throat. So I've been hydrating well and sleeping a ton. So far the Covid tests are negative.
I haven't been able to advance my diet past purees. Everything I eat other than tofu makes me choke and feels like trying to swallow rocks. They warned me it would get worse before it gets better, so lets hope this is all normal. I have my follow up on Monday so we'll see. Living on shakes and soup again is not fun. I had enough of them the first time!! LOL

Still purging all of the larger clothing. This morning, a shirt that I ADORED wearing ended up on top. Hard to let it go, but it was also hard to let go of those habits that also no longer serve my highest good. Onward and upward!
