Recommended Posts

I need help decideing between Dr. Huacuz, Dr. Guillermo Alvarez or the Doctors at Obesity Goodbye in Mexico. I have insurace here in the US but it doesn't cover weightloss sugery. I have been doing research since October of 09 and can't decide between the 3. I would love to know if you have used any of these doctors and the results. Or any suggestions you may have will be greatly appreciated.

Just asking .. Is the reason you are going to Mexico is because of self pay cost. I was a selfpay (cash) and I had mine done in N. Texas are a very great rate with a great Dr. and a very low cost.

Huacuz has a horrible reputation. He really botched a sleeve on a friend of mine and did everything in his power to keep her at his clinic as she got worse and worse and he made mistake after mistake. Finally, her husband dragged her to San Diego where she was in the hospital forever and told she would have died if she has stayed in Mexico one more day.

Please, please do not go to him.

Yes it is defiantly the price. The cheepest I found in Louisiana is 13000. I would love to find a doctor within driveing distance that is reasonably priced. Dallas is about 6 hours from here. Give me more info, Please.

Yes My Doctor is Great!!! He is in Dallas - New Beginnings Surgical Group. Dr. Manuel Castro MD. PhD 214-948-0475 www.nbsurgical.com He is wonderful!!!! His staff is very helpful and sweet. I love them to pieces. I am 5 weeks post-op and have lost 28 lbs. The great thing about him is that his pre-op diet is not that bad he allow you to eat low cal low fat meals along with potein shakes some docs let you only have liquids. The cost for me was $ 9,990 for the operation that even includes 6 fills and office visits. I paid $ 135 for the psych evaluation $ 200 for potein shakes that i still have some left. Total $ 10,325 all cash paid. He has semiars and support group meeting . If you any more question or help just let me know.

Good Luck!!!!

Thanks V-----

I know two people who went to Obesity Goodbye and are very happy. I plan on going April 1, 2009. I'm still researching though, guess you can never learn enough. I'm going to Mexico b/c I'm self pay and don't meet the weight criteria.

I used Dr. Huacuz in november 1008. He was ok, but if i were you i would just pay a little more money and go somewhere else. I have not heard a word from him since the day I left his clinic.

Search his name on this site and look at all of the entries about him. I have put my experience on here, which was not good nor bad, mostly dissapointing.

Choose wisely. This is a major surgery, and i believe you do get what you pay for.

My decision has been made. I will go to Dr. Ortiz on April 3rd for my lapband. I can't wait!!!

I live about an hour from you in DeRidder, LA. I went to Dr. Ortiz in July 2008. He was great. I work at a hospital and I could not get over how clean their facility was. It was the best choice I have ever made.

Question for anyone, how did you get your mind right before surgery? Like as far as eating better foods and just doing better in general? I'm having a really hard time with this. Any help is appreciated 🙏❤️

I had about 6 months between deciding to do surgery and getting scheduled. I came across the book The Pound of Cure by Dr. Matthew Weiner, a bariatric surgeon in Arizona, and started to implement some of the changes he recommended (and lost 13 lbs in the process without ever feeling deprived). The book is very simple, and the focus is on whole, plant based foods, but within reason. It's not an all or nothing approach, or going vegan or something, but focuses on improvement and aiming for getting it right 80-90% of the time. His suggestions are divided into 12 sections that you can tackle over time, perhaps one per month for a year if a person is just trying to improve nutrition and build good habits. They range from things like cutting out artificial sweetener or eating more beans to eating a pound of vegetables per day. I found it really effective pre-surgery and it's an eating style I will be working to get back to as I am further out from surgery and have more capacity. Small changes you can sustain will do the most for building good habits for life.

That sounds awesome. I'll have to check that out thanks!

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
