Recommended Posts

Fabulous February friends? Thank you, Tam.

And thank you, Sarah, for going to check out my thread, which is in the monthly forum, February, 2009 forum.

Ivernous, my surgery date is also the 10th. I'm excited, and maybe just a little anxious.

I go between excited and scared and sad....I think....wait I know I will miss food. I am willing to do this and I think it will enhance my life so much. I don't know what to think.....I have always been heavy all my life...I don't know what it is to be thin.....hope its fun.

i totally relate to this. this whole process is a rollercoaster of emotions and thoughts.

the whole thing about missing food really go to me. i'm on my pre op right now and i feel like i'm grieving in a way. food has been such a source of comfort, almost a friend for many years... i feel like in a way i'm saying goodbye to an old friend.

Babe- you are the first person to really say that you are grieving over food.....I know I'm gonna do that, like you said its like loosing a friend. But I have to remember what this friend has put me thru my whole life. I am ready to take control and really make food a true friend. Do you get that?

yeah ivernous, i think i get it... i really want to make food a 'true friend' too. in my eyes, ideally, i'd like to use food a source of physical nourishment as opposed to what it's been which was a source of emotional support. i think it has more control over me than is good for me. i hope to shift that over the next couple months, before i start eating solids again.

Possibly 2 to 3 weeks; been in the insurance biz 29 yrs, and my understanding BX stopped approving LB, even on appeal. Possibly your policy has changed since don't write with Bx anymore. Have you called the benefits dept?:yikes:

I have BCBS and I was approved in 5 days! Granted, I started researching and prepping several months before my surgeon submitted it to the insurance. Prior to seeing the surgeon, I completed my psych eval, sleep study, ekg. I started on a supervised diet and have lost 44 pounds, and it was only after taking these steps and showing how motivated I was did I schedule an appointment to see the surgeon. At that time, they submitted everything and as I mentioned, within 5 days, I had an "approved" so all the hard work was well worth it.

That said, I truly feel the hard work is just beginning. I yesterday I have received all the paperwork including the liquid pre-op diet I need to be on to shrink my liver. I'm actually staying very positive about it and I think this liquid diet will also help ease me into the strict post-op diet.

I can't tell you guys how excited I am for all of us. I know it sounds so corny about this being a new lease on life, but for me, I truly believe that's exactly what it is, it's a new start. I hope we can all keep in touch and give each other support throughout.

Surgery date is Feb 5th. I have to be at the hospital at 6am and they cut me up at 8am! :)

I have to stay overnight, but I'm okay with that.

How is everyone else coming along?

I completely understand, but when I said the same thing to my doctor, her response was, "a friend? a friend wouldn't kill you, would she?" From that point on, I stopped looking at food as a friend, in fact, I stopped grieving. I'm not waving goodbye to food, instead I'm choosing to say %$#@ you!

If food was a friend, I'd be able to think back upon the memories and recall all the great times, but for me, that is not the case at all.

Changing isnt easy, but it's going to take a lot more to set me back this time.

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

So proud of you Cat. Getting into those smaller size clothes is half the fun isn't it?. Keep up the good work!!!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞

I may have to have gall bladder surgery during my weight loss surgery. Not thrilled about it either but do not want 2 recovery times. Just want it over with.

Thanks for your post. I may need to rethink my decision... :(
