i did not even know this was an option. if the port is right under your skin then why would the dr have a hard time getting to the port?

I personally wouldn't risk it unless I was a nurse. Mistakes can be very costly.

i am a nurse and i don't think i would do it. but prob like any skill if taught properly can be done

I fill it with whatever I have on hand. In Nov. I had the garlic butter sauce for the turkey, so I just went ahead and used it. Why waste?

First I rub an ice cube on my port area, then I rub some oragel on it. Then I let my hubby inject me cause I just can't do it myself.

I do admit the needle is way big. One time I actually had to give myself one stitch to close the hole on my tummy. I used some dental floss.

The tip of needle the doctor uses for fills is bent. I did have to take the meat injector needle and bend it before I used it. I took it outside and pushed it down on the cement till it bent.

This self fill method is really working for me. For Christmas I filled it with rum sauce from my bread pudding.

I tryed the meat injector needle as you recomended , However the needle was too long and poked all the through me and into my moms new leather couch, I strongly recomend against self fills, You to could ruin your moms couch.

Stop it, Stop it, I got banded yesterday and all this laughing is making my sides hurt :):sad:

I can see it now...on the front page of the Enquirier.....

How I used Duck Tape, a paper clip and a straw to LAP-BAND® myself!!!!

<Yet another use for Duct Tape>....who here has seen Idocracy :smile2::lol::bored::lol:

I don't care who you are... that's funny!

...and for anyone who thought these might possibly be real posts... *sigh*

To answer the topic seriously, no I would never attempt to do my own unfill - unless - everyone one earth disappeared and I was the only person left.

KIdding aside ...there was a post or I read in a med journal about a new lapband that is being designed to be filled over the phone! Honestly the doctor can send a signal....I've only had 3 fills and I wouldn't want any more I know you can't get to many more than that. So I don't get it...unless you have 100s of lbs to lose then the fat pad around the stoma would change i guess.

I am a diabetic and have been giving myself injections for a couple years (but soon to be a think of the past...yeah!) so the *idea* of doing my own fills isn't a scary thing. I know where my port is and I'm sure they could train me to do it.

That said, I'm not interested. Mainly because as someone else said, the temptation to 'tweak' so I could have a day of eating or 'tweak' so I couldn't eat anything (to make up for it) would be too great.

I'll let the professionals do what they do best.

Love this thread. Some of the responses have been hysterical, although I admit that those who took them seriously were even more so.

:laugh::thumbup: As a mom with a leather couch, I really have to second this advice. I'd be really pissed if my kids perforated it with a marinade injector. A hole AND a stain?! No way.

I'm an RN, and I wouldn't self-fill. I think I probably could, and understand the reasons why people might want to, but can't think of any real reason why I might need to.

Even if I were a million miles away from home, I'm pretty sure I could find a physician able to communicate with my doctor on the phone or online if s/he needed instructions.

If I were traveling somewhere I didn't know anyone medical, I would probably ask my doctor for physician referrals at my destination in case I had a problem. My most frequent destination, though, happens to be a city where I'd know, immediately, which ER to use; there are bariatric surgeons in abundance, and support for bandits is plentiful.

I would say no way...I'm an ER nurse and Ive seen too many people do dumb stuff and really screw themselves up!! My doc, who does this daily, had a difficult time filling me, I personally wouldn't risk it!

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

So proud of you Cat. Getting into those smaller size clothes is half the fun isn't it?. Keep up the good work!!!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞

I may have to have gall bladder surgery during my weight loss surgery. Not thrilled about it either but do not want 2 recovery times. Just want it over with.

Thanks for your post. I may need to rethink my decision... :(
