Restaurant rage

Recommended Posts

I'm just feeling sorry for myself with this one. It took me 1.5 hours to find a restaurant for lunch today. No one seemed to have anything that I could eat after getting a fill just 3 days ago. Then, the DH lets me know he screwed up the reservations for our anniversary dinner which is tomorrow. How can I get the family and others to understand that I can't just pick up and go wherever THEY want? If I know that a certain restaurant has something on the menu that works for me, then that is where I need to go. I am not nearly as flexible as I used to be. Plus, no one can really cook for me, so I end up making 2 meals a night. Just once, I want a meal to be no big deal for me. Thanks for the outlet to rant.

Are you maybe too tight? According to my surgeon, the huge bulk of his patients can eat anything except stringy red meat and bread. That leaves a LOT of food. From what I've read, the "green zone" or sweet spot means

you can eat most foods, but must chew well, you get full on a child sized (or smaller) portion, and you remain full for hours. You know best how to work your band so I hope I don't sound presumptuous but I don't think you have to suffer as much as it sounds like you are. Life is going to go on and you need to be able to live it....being too tight will just hurt you in the long run, I think!

Of course I just read that you had a fill 3 days ago so hopefully you're just "too tight" for a bit. Anyway, I'm sorry everything got messed up for you and I hope you hit the zone soon...where you can eat anywhere! :grouphug:

I have the added headache of being under dental construction, so chewing is difficult. I can't do most beef, salad, Pasta and bread are evil to me, I won't even get egg salad or tuna with celery in it (never been a fan of celery, but now it is a definite no-no) and I sometimes have trouble with fish. My food must be moist - I always ask for a side of low fat dressing, salsa, marinara or the like to dip my food. Oddly enough, my episodes fo getting food stuck usually happen when I need a fill. Strange, huh?

Happy anniversary! Sorry your going through this right. Perhaps you are to tight with your fill. Maybe you need more time adjusting to this latest fill.

I have two fills with 4.5cc in a 10cc band and I can eat everything, but in very small portions.

I think for my anniversary I'd want something other than a meal out, then. A shopping spree? A movie? Gemstones and gold? anything but food! :grouphug: Hope it all works out for you!

See, here was the deal: I've been feeling sorry for myself because my body is melting, I feel unattractive, and I left the plans in his lap. He was going to make reservations at an exclusive restaurant that we both love, and that I haven't been to since being banded 6 months ago. I really wanted him to do SOMETHING to make me feel special: ask for a sugar free dessert, have a rose waiting for me, something. I knew I could get an appetizer and eat some of his swordfish, which is one thing they are known for. I, in turn, planned for some special surprises AFTER dinner.

I bought a new dress, under garments, etc. For me to shop right now is a huge deal. I hate my odd size, nothing fits right, and I am recently unemployed. We have a gift card for this restaurant. He had 2 weeks to make reservations, he waited until today, and it all fell apart. Now I feel even worse than I did. I just needed someone to take care of me for a change, and make me and my needs important. So, now we are doing nothing, I lost the babysitter to his nastiness, and am becoming more bitter. It's a pity party to the extreme. It really is the first one I've had since being banded.

I am done whining now.

I'm so sorry things are so rough for you right now. It sounds like your husband is a big part of the problem. I was banded around when you were and have had 3 fills and I dont eat special, but I do sometimes have trouble chewing things like steak because of teeth and gums issues, so I know how you feel there.

We are doing my parent's anniversary at home. Sometimes that is just easier, hope your husband comes thru with something special. I got short ribs BBQ and a small cheesecake for dessert and a crystal thingee as a present. Im sorry the restaurant didnt work out for you. Maybe you can go next weekend? If it were me, Id still want to go and wouldnt take no for a answer.

I looked again, and we were banded the same exact date, Happy banding sister.

I hope you are feeling a little better soon. I am sorry the dinner plans didn't work out for you.

I agree with the others who are saying that you might be al little too tight . . . but sometimes it does loosen up after a fill. I can really eat at least something at every restaurant now . . . even if it is only Soup.

Question for anyone, how did you get your mind right before surgery? Like as far as eating better foods and just doing better in general? I'm having a really hard time with this. Any help is appreciated 🙏❤️

I had about 6 months between deciding to do surgery and getting scheduled. I came across the book The Pound of Cure by Dr. Matthew Weiner, a bariatric surgeon in Arizona, and started to implement some of the changes he recommended (and lost 13 lbs in the process without ever feeling deprived). The book is very simple, and the focus is on whole, plant based foods, but within reason. It's not an all or nothing approach, or going vegan or something, but focuses on improvement and aiming for getting it right 80-90% of the time. His suggestions are divided into 12 sections that you can tackle over time, perhaps one per month for a year if a person is just trying to improve nutrition and build good habits. They range from things like cutting out artificial sweetener or eating more beans to eating a pound of vegetables per day. I found it really effective pre-surgery and it's an eating style I will be working to get back to as I am further out from surgery and have more capacity. Small changes you can sustain will do the most for building good habits for life.

That sounds awesome. I'll have to check that out thanks!

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
