Recommended Posts

I see that a couple of us are getting banded on January 12th! I just thought we could have a thred of our own :tongue2: Why not right, there are like 3 of us (probably more).

I will start by saying a little about myself...

I am 23, living in Modesto California. I am getting banded by dr. higa in Fresno at 9am. My current weight is 280 and my goal weight is 175 (for now anyways).

I am married and have been for almost 4 years

I can't wait to live a skinny life!!!

Can't wait to meet the other 12thers...

Hello, I'm Lisa. I am also having surgery on the 12th of January. I am hoping to lose 80 to 100 pounds, honestly I would be happy just to be under 200 pounds right now. I am getting banded in Huntsville, Al.

Has any of your Dr's put you on a pre-op diet? Mine just told me to not gain any weight over the holidays and *IF* I could lose some it would be great.

I go in for my pre-op appointment Jan 7. I'm getting excited.

Lisa

16 MORE days! Can you believe it?!?

My doctor hasn't said anything about a pre op diet. I am going to put myself on one on Monday. I am going to do two slim-fasts and a small dinner. I am also going to try and cut the Diet Soda Addiction NOW. I don't want to feel like I am missing out so much after.

I unfortunately did gain some weight since I went in. About 5 lbs. So, I need to lose those for sure.

My pre-op appt is on the 9th (Friday) and I meet with the surgeon and then do the pre-op stuff at the hospital also that day. My surgeon is about an hour and a half away so we are doing as much in one day as possible :hurray:

I have thought about starting a blog, where a bunch of people could blog together...'cuz I know that a lot of people like to blog, but don't want to be so responsible for posting every day. Do you think you guys would be interested in that? WE could all have our pics and stats up and whatever else we want

Well, I hope everyone else is doing great and getting prepared as best as possible

I started 2 slim fast and 1 meal a day today. I used to drink 3 Diet Dr pepper's a day and I cut them out 2 weeks ago. I do still miss them but I have learned to do without them.

I've already done all my pre-op at the Hospital tw weeks ago. I live about a hour and a half from the place they are doing surgery , so everytime I go, I make sure I knock out more stuff that has to be done.

I would blog woth you if you will set it up.

Hi fellow January 12th bandsters!!!

January 12th for me too :huh2:

I am 37 and have 3 sons (20, 17 & 13).

I have been divorced for 5 years now and have found myself in a cougar relationship (he's only 28) for over a year now - lol. I have so many people in my life supporting me with this big step and I'm grateful for that.

I started this process Oct 8th @ 232 lbs., now at 220.

I had to start my pre-op diet today - should be interesting.

I see the crazy dr. for the 2nd time tomorrow and my final appt. with the surgeon is Wednesday (31st).

The reality is finally hitting me. I am very anxious but also very nervous. Isn't this the normal feeling from everyone?

I think it's cool to keep in touch with others who have the same date! :tongue2:

I am 45 - -soon to be 46. I have been married 11 years and have twin boys who just turned 6. I started the process over a year ago. I went to a seminar and learned that my insurance would require a 6 month medically supervised weight loss program. It took me 6 months to get my act together to see a Dr. who would supervise me. Finally after 6 months with him, and another month of gathering paperwork, I had my consult with Dr. Ren @ NYU. I had my preop testing on 12/22 and started my preop diet today, 12/29. I've been up and down during the 6 months -- started at 248 and am now at 240 today. I hope to lose 100 lbs.

Love to keep in touch with the other 12thers - as I know as we get closer...13 days today, I will be getting very nervous!

Hello everybody,

I was happy to see this post tried to figure how to make a post yesterday... good job!

My band date is set for 12th but I don't no the time yet. I have been married almost 21 years our anniversary is 2-20.

I have three children; 20, 18, and 13. They are the joy of my life and source of nearly every Migraine.

I realize that this is an awesome opportunity to improve my health and for that reason alone I will dictate my all to successfully lose the weight. I was approved in November but it wasn’t until I joined this site and saw all of the before and after pics that I began to realize that I to will lose not only the weight but a few dress sizes as well. I have been so focused on not having to use my CPAP every time I take a nap or got to bed at night and my A1C being under 7.5 that I just had not thought about my outward physical appearance and (WOW).

This is plus for me all around. The only fear I have is "what if I fail". This will take all of the things I don’t have to be successful... discipline, commitment to exercise and will power which are all of the things that got me where I am today.

Sorry to me a drip but I guess I needed to say this to people I think may understand, God knows my friends don't. I have learned so much from reading the postings and to be honest I find myself logging in several times a day just to feel united.

Dr. Monash is my surgeon Tucson, Az

I'm having it done on January 12th as well! For my pre-op diet, I'm supposed to be following the Atkins or Southbeach diet, then do a liquid diet 4 days before surgery. I've gotten sidetracked over the holidays, so I'll be getting back on the wagon with Atkins on January 1st. Good luck, all!

Hi everyone

I am also a January 12th bander. I'm really looking forward to the 12th and can't wait for the pre-op diet to be over. I've really struggled with the Optifast because the smell makes me want to gag. I've started mixing Crystal light with the Optifast to make it a little better.

Anyone else have any ideas?

I'm January 12th too!!!

I'm 34 years old and live in Michigan also. I live with my parents. I'm hoping to lose at least 100 but up to 140 or so pounds overall. I know it'll be a long, long journey, but I'm really looking forward to it. I started pre-op dieting on December 20th. 2 shakes a day, and a sensible dinner. Which was hard with Christmas, but i just stayed away from all Pasta, potatoes, sweets etc. on Christmas Eve and Day. I'm pretty proud of myself. Sunday I started the 3 shakes a day and boy am I going crazy. I hope I get adjusted to this soon.

My mom, bless her heart, did make homemade chicken Soup on Sunday (my first day of the 3 shakes a day diet) thinking I could have at least the broth with dinner. Then she looked at the list I posted on the fridge.

GL to all of us and hope to talk to you all more!

Wow...We are becoming quite the group so far. I really hope that we all stay in touch and hold each other threw this long journey!

I tried to do two shakes and a "sensible dinner" but I felt like a ravenous crazy person by dinner time :)

I guess since my doc didnt actually tell me to do a preop besides nothing but liquids for 24 hours...I am just going to "take it easy".

I wonder why my dr. doesnt do a pre-op diet?

On another note I was wondering how many days everyone is planning to take off of work? I have one full week scheduled. I work in a showroom and help customers all day (when there are customers :)) But, i figure I can take it easy for a couple of weeks after I go back.

Well, Talk to you all later :cool2::wink2:

I am new here today... and only two weeks out from my sleeve surgery on the 23rd. I am amazed I have kept my calories down to 467 today so far... that leaves me almost 750 left for dinner and maybe a snack. This is going to be tough for two weeks... but I have to believe I can do it!

Hey everyone. I'm new here so I thought I should introduce myself. I am 53y/o and am scheduled for Gastric Bypass on June 25th, 2025. I'm located in San Antonio, Texas. I will be having my surgery in Tiajuana Mexico. I've wanted this for years, but I always had insurance where bariatric procedures were excluded. Finally I am able to afford to pay out of pocket.  I can't wait to get started, and I hope I'm prepared for the initial period of "hell". I know what I have signed up for, but I'm sure the good to come will out way the temporary period of discomfort and feelings of regret. I'd love to find people to talk to who have been through the same procedure or experience before. So I look forward to meeting you all. Hope you have a great week!

I'm so happy for you! You are about to change your life. I was so glad to get the sleeve done in Dec. I didn't have feelings of regret overall. And I'm down almost 60 lbs. I do feel a little sad at restaurants. I can barely eat half a kid's meal. I get adults meals often because kid ones don't have the same offerings at times. Then I feel obligated to eat on that until it's gone and that can be days. So the restaurant thing isn't great for me. All the rest is fine by me! I love feeling full with very little. I do wish I could drink when eating. And will sip at the end. Just a strong habit to stop. But I'm working on it! You will do fine! Just keep focused on your desire to be different. Not better or worse. But different. I am happy both ways but my low back doesn't like me that heavy. So I listened (also my feet!). LOL! Update us on your journey! I'm not far from you. I'm in Houston. Good luck and I hope it all goes smoothly! Would love to see pics of the town you go to for this. I've never been there. Neat you will be traveling for this! Enjoy the journey. Take it one day at a time. Sometimes a few hours at a time. Follow all recommendations as best you can. 💗

Thank you so much for your well wishes. I am hoping that everything goes easy for me as well. We don't eat out much as it is, so it wont be too bad in that department. Thankfully. Also, I hear you regarding your back and feet!! I'd like to add knees to the list. Killing me as we speak! I'm only 5' so the weight has to go. Too short to carry all this weight. Menopause really did a doosey on me. (😶lol) My daughter also lives in Houston. with her Husband and my 5 grand-littles. I grew up in Beaumont, so I know Houston well, I will be sure to keep in touch and update you on my journey. I may need some advice in the future, or just motivation. Thank You so much for reaching out, I was hoping to connect with someone in the community. I really appreciate it. 💜

On day 4 of the 2 week liquid pre-op diet. Surgery scheduled for June 11th.
Soooo I am coming to a realization
of something and I'm not sure what to do about it. For years the only thing I've enjoyed is eating. We rarely do anything or go anywhere and if we do it always includes food. Family comes over? Big family dinner! Go camping? Food! Take a short ride or trip? Food! Holiday? Food! Go out of town for a Dr appointment? Food! When we go to a new town we don't look for any attractions, we look for restaurants we haven't been to. Heck, I look forward to getting off work because that means it's almost supper time. Now that I'm drinking these pre-op shakes for breakfast, lunch, and supper I have nothing to look forward to.  And once I have surgery on June 11th it'll be more of the same shakes. Even after pureed stage, soft food stage, and finally regular food stage, it's going to be a drastic change for the rest of my life. I'm giving up the one thing that really brings me joy. Eating. How do you cope with that? What do you do to fill that void? Wow. Now I'm sad.

I hope your surgery on Wednesday goes well. You will be able to do all sorts of new things as you find your new normal after surgery. I don't know this from experience yet, but I am seeing a lot of positive things from people who have had it done. Best of luck!

Life as a big person had limited my life to what I knew I could manage to do each day. That was eat. I hadn't anything else to look forward to. So my eating choices were the best I could dream up. I planned the cooking in managable lots in my head and filled my day with and around it.

Now I have a whole new big, bigger, biggest, best days ever. I am out there with those skinny people doing stuff i could never have dreamt of. Food is now an after thought. It doesn't consume my day. I still enjoy the good home cooked food but I eat smaller portions. I leave food on my plate when I am full. I can no longer hear my mother's voice saying eat it all up, ther are starving children in Africa who would want that!

I still cook for family feasts, I love cooking. I still do holidays but I have changed from the All inclusive drinking and eating everything everyday kind to Self catering accommodation. This gives me the choice of cooking or eating out as I choose. I rarely drink anymore as I usually travel alone now and I feel I need to keep aware of my surroundings.

I don't know at what point my life expanded, was it when I lost 100 pounds? Was it when I left my walking stick at home ? Was it when I said yes to an outing instead of finding an excuse to stay home ? i look back at my last five years and wonder how loosing weight has made such a difference. Be ready to amaze yourself.

BTW, the liquid diet sucks, one more day and you are over the worst. You can do it.
