Kaiser Richmond Pre-op

Also, I couldn't quit my diet coke either! But I'm limiting it to 3 days a week and I'm only have one instead of LOTS. It keeps my headaches under control from the caffeine withdrawal. I'll enjoy it until the day before surgery and then I'll quit...I'll quit all the other bad stuff now like eating unhealthy, fast food, HUGE portions...but the diet coke is sticking around a little bit longer.

I didn't give up my Diet Coke until the day of surgery and I used to drink it from morning until night. I did try to cut down though. Now I haven't had any soda or caffeine since Aug. 26 - I only drink Water - some plain and some with the sugar free flavor packets. I must have gone through the caffeine withdrawal headaches while I was on the Lortab pain meds after surgery.

I plan to try to slowly stop over the next couple of months. I think suddenly stopping the day after surgery would be hard for me. I like the every other day thing.

So Mom3 after surgery were you able to drive home or did you stay in a motel for the night. I am debating but think I might spend the night in Richmond and come home the next day.

My daughter will be going with me but she can't drive in Bay area traffic since she is new to driving. I would rather wait until I feel better and drive myself.

So did you get your appointments at orientation or did you also do the call in and get cancelations?

They told as orientation not to drive for about a week! Where do you live?

Like momcof3 said--with the diet coke thing...I figured cutting back will make it easier to quit and when I'm going through the diet coke withdrawals I'll be all stoned on pain killers so that should help the fierce headache that would normally accompany that.

My dad went with me and drove me home 4 1/2 hours after surgery. I was not able to drive for at least a week - you can't drive while taking the pain meds anyway -. Is there someone else who can drive you there and back? I got my surgeon appointment at the orientation and then my other appointments while I was there at an appointment. I did not call and try to get cancellations. I recently got put on a cancellation list for a fill, but never was contacted back. I go for my possible 2nd fill on Jan 16. I don't know if it is a good thing to try to hurry through the process to get surgery. There is a lot to think about and absorb and a lot of habit changing that needs to happen. I went through the process fairly quickly by losing the weight quickly.

Hello ladies!

I had orientation in November, appt. with Dr. Zimmerman (psych) December 12, and have an appt. with Dr. Baggs 1/23. They tried to get me to take the surgeon appt. the day after the psych, but I said no! I'm with Momcof3, it's not a good thing to hurry this process. I am all about the end result, not about how fast I can get the band. I am losing fast on the 1200 cals, but I have other important things I have to lose too - like my head hunger! I am also in 14 weeks of nutrition/lifestyle/stress reduction classes @ my local Kaiser. My goal is to be down 40 by my surgery date. For me, it is easier this time because it is the LAST TIME I will have to do this dieting without the aid of a band! Loving the Kaiser program so far. I like Liz's straightforward approach too, and so far everyone has been just great! Take care everybody!

I was just looking for my calendar, but i think i left it at work! It was either the 4th or the 11th . . . . Liz led it, and I think it was Dr. Fischer who came in?

I'm not trying to hurry the process too much, but it actually was really nice to be done with orientation, surgeon and psych appts in 16 days. Now I'm done with driving down to Richmond and everything is in MY control now. The process will be about the same because length of time because I still have to lose another 15-ish pounds before Dr. Fisher will schedule surgery.

Someone asked the nutritionist if she'd had surgery? That's kinda funny...but brave. What was her answer?

I actually was wondering if Liz (case manager) had had surgery because her profile pic on Kaisers website barely even looks like her! She's MUCH slimmer now...hmmm.

Well she was kinda offended... Which she shouldn't be we are like all there for it.. But she was weird about it, then said if anyone did she couldn't say do to privacy etc.. but that NO she didn't...

BTW follow the 1200 cal and you should loose the 15 in 2 weeks:) I believe in you:D

Did the surgeon allow you to bring the hubby? Mine has many questions..

Did you lose 15 lbs in 2 weeks? Were you exercising? I'm trying to modify the 1200 cal diet but it's not working well enough. I need to go to the store, get a bunch of stuff that's on the 1200 cal food list and follow it to a T. I'm not much of a Breakfast person so I've been having a slimfast shake for Breakfast (200 calories), I don't know why that would matter one way or the other though. This was my first week of working out 5-6 days a week instead of 1 or 2. I hope that will make a difference too.

My hubby didn't come but I didn't feel like he needed to. He asks me questions and I answer them but most of the got answered in orientation. My appt with the surgeon was only about 15 minutes long, maybe less. I'm sure you can bring him if you want to.

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

So proud of you Cat. Getting into those smaller size clothes is half the fun isn't it?. Keep up the good work!!!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞

I may have to have gall bladder surgery during my weight loss surgery. Not thrilled about it either but do not want 2 recovery times. Just want it over with.

Thanks for your post. I may need to rethink my decision... :(
