pricing question-paying out of pocket

So my doc quoted 17k..I live in Orlando. I will be paying for it through financing so getting the best band for my $ is important. I want a skilled doctor ....not willing to risk my life in a non qualifiied surgeon. However a friend of mine also paid out of pocket through financing and paid 6k?????

What is the status quo? What are you guys paying or what is your 411 on this?

thanks in advance

Slim:confused:

Thanks everyone! Ideally I would be comfortable paying up to 11k. I also heard that if you pay out of pocket it is cheaper???

WOW Travelinsnorkel! You are doing great on your weight loss. I can't wait to do this so I can have your results! :rolleyes2: That is great.

The $9500k hospital fee was out of pocket and they usually change the insurance companies around 30k for an out-patient procedure.

I have no idea why there is such a dramatic self pay difference for people getting the band in the United States.....Cost of living doesn't cost double the amount from state to state....weird.

All I know is that I am grateful to have the means (and a great APR through Capital One, lol) to afford the surgery.....it truly has been an amazing ride so far.

Thank you SexySlim! It really feels great to be losing and know that I'm going to keep it off!

I have never seen a price much below $10,000 in the US. $6000 is low even for Mexico. I would be very wary of that pricing. Low price in the US is $9500-$12,000. In Mexico, prices for reputable surgeons are around $7000-$8500. This is based on my reading this website for over a year.

Yeah I was thinking the same thing. It is a friend of a friend that had it done and I think MY friend might have just made that up! LOL

I am in DFW and am paying $9990, which includes all pre-op testing, the surgery, anesthesiologist and facility fees and six fills in the first year after surgery. Not included was the mandatory psych eval ($250) and the cost of the pre-op diet.
