can't keep anything down, even liquids

Recommended Posts

anyone have this problem? I was banded in april and have had several fills the last one was last thursday. Friday Sat and Sunday everything seemed fine, but starting yesterday and into today cannot keep anything down? Even milk or hot tea. I did do a heavy abdominal workout on Sunday, can that increase presure? Is it posible there is inflamation that will go down? Should I give it a few days or have some fill removed? My stomach around the port is sore but I cannot tell if that is from working out or something else.

Sometimes it takes as long as two weeks for a fill to kick in. Sounds like yours took a couple of days. I think it might be a good idea for you to call your doctor and go in for a slight unfill. It is best not to let this go on too long, believe me, I know from personal experience.

i am new here but have also had this problem twice, the 1st time i ended up in the ER after not being able to keep even pedilyte or gatorade down for a week & was severely dehydrated.

they took some of my Fluid out & let me "rest" for 6 weeks, and i gained, so then they re-filled and i was fine, then started having the problem again, but i didnt wait a week this time, i got iv fluids at doctors office & then went to hospital for a swallow study that showed absolutely nothing going into my stomach. t

he doctors took out some of my fluid and ive been doing fine, went back & got a smaller fill, and have been doing fine. i have gained a little and am getting a little discouraged. i have an appointment on monday and something has to get resolved! i feel for you, i know exactly how you feel!! however i can't offer too much advice!

Can I ask why you gained weight? Is it because your band was unfilled or is it because you ate more? That woule be scary to think that just unfilling your band would make you gain weight.

I had the same issue back in September. I had a fill done and did ok for a couple of days and then suddenly I couldnt get anything down. liquids were ok as long as I took it slow, however, food was a real problem and I dealt with it for 2 weeks until one morning I woke up at 4 am in severe pain all in the middle in my back. When I swallowed my saliva I felt this pulling sensation in my back and it hurt like hell. I had to be seen right away and they did a complete unfill. Apparently I was overfilled. I was at 4.5 cc's at the time and then had to start all over. It is possible that it is inflammation. I also notice that post-nasal drip will also tighten my band as well. I have been sick with a sinus infection and a cold and had it really bad yesterday, to the point where hot Soup wouldnt go down. I ended up vomiting at the restaurant. In anycase, you could be suffering the same ordeal - inflammation - and would see your doctor should this continue. I am glad you posted this though because back in May I asked my doc if ab work would affect the band and/or port and he said that it shouldn't. I intend to start doing ab exercises now that I am recovering nicely from ankle ligament reconstruction. And should I encounter the same thing, at least there is this thread to reference too.

I hope you feel better!

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞

I may have to have gall bladder surgery during my weight loss surgery. Not thrilled about it either but do not want 2 recovery times. Just want it over with.

Thanks for your post. I may need to rethink my decision... :(
