Hi to all,

Just want to let you know that we have a new surgeon in Bathurst, N.B. who does lapband, sleeves and lapband re-route. I met him a couple of weeks ago and my specialist for diabetes and some nurses I know praise his performance. I don't have my date yet. He said as soon as he could get an op-room, I'll have to follow an 2 weeks SlimFast diet and then I would have the surgery.

Hi...Just wondering if you heard anything back on when he will start the surgeries. I met him on october 30 and can't wait to have the lapband....I am starting to wonder if I should've choose the sleeve....If you don't mind me asking which one did you choose?.....Thanks

Just curious: what is a "LAP-BAND® re-route"? I've been banded 5 years and that's a new term to me. Is this just a new name for repositioning an existing Lap-Band due to a slip? Or is this some variation of the basic Lap-Band?

Maybe I don't have the right term because I'm French but I'm going to try to explain what I mean by re-route. They do a regular lap band but what they add is they cut your small intestine and replug where they cut near your stomach. I think they do that for the stapple surgery. I know the part they cut is where your small intestine digest your fat so if it's not there anymore, the fat can't stick on you. I'm not a surgeon so I can't explain it the way Dr. Savoie explained it to me.

I think what they mean is the Duodenal Switch. I have been reading about a new surgeon doing the DS in NB and I believe this is the name I have read about. The above description would be similar to the DS minus the band of course. If he is doing the sleeve, chances are he's doing the full switch of the DS since the sleeve is the first part of the DS.

I haven't got my date yet but I can tell you last time I was in Dr. Khan's office they told me they were still waiting for some equipment. I heard one guy got his surgery date. He's suppose to go in January so, me too, I'm waiting impatiently for my date. I use to go to the post office everyday (even use to walk when I didn't have the car) but when they told me that, I stop going everyday. I think we're going to hear from him pretty soon. I would think sometime it January.

The sleeve's procedure is to stapple you stomack and make it as if it was tube like this ||.

I did a lot of research on the internet and I already knew what I wanted before meeting Dr. Savoie. I'm going for the lap band surgery. The sleeve was my second choice and if he would of tell me that It would of been better for me the have the lap band with part of your intestine cut and plug on your stomack, I don't know what I've would of choose. I don't regret in any way my decision to have the lap band surgery done on me.

One of my friend is going for that procedure and she's really happy about her decision. She's going to loose faster but I think maybe she'll have to get more plastic surgery than me . . . even if she's younger than me hi! hi!

Dr. Savoie does it with the lap band, not with the sleeve. That's what I understood. I don't know if it's call Duodenal Switch, sorry!

I chose the regular lap band surgery for different reasons. The main ones are: I'm 49 years old, not a little bup even if I don't feel my age, I have a 10 years old daughter, I can't be away from my work for a long period of time (I'm a ressource teacher), the lap band is the less invasive procedure and finaly I'm diabetic and the less they cut, better is for me because the healling process is slower and the possibility of an infection is higher.

I don't know if you're like me but I've been trying to lose weight because less fat you have around your organs better it is for him during surgery but let say I'm not please with the results at all. I don't even know if I can say results, I should say a trying. Kind of hard with Christmas coming, and all. I took something similar to SlimFast, worked for the first week and than the second week didn't work at all. Probably because I was just doing it during the week and not the weekend. Sometimes it doesn't take much to undo what you're trying to do. I don't know, maybe when I'll know my date it's going to give me a good kick in the butt. A friend and I are planning to do like what we use to do went we were going to WWatchers, put 2$ every week in a pot and boost one another. . . after the Holiday's. How about you, have you try to lose some weight?

Does Dr.Savoie make you lose weight even before the 2 week optifast thing? Dr. B in moncton wants you to lose weight on your own long before you even know the date of your surgery. If you gain any weight, your surgery will be postponed until you start to lose weight on your own.

When I met Dr Savoie he never told me I had to loose weight before going for the surgery. The only thing he told me was that I would be on Optifast 2 weeks before surgery. I haven't lost any weight but I haven't gained either. It is very hard to loose this time of the year. I will try not to gain but after Christmas I am gonna try harder a loosing . The more I can loose before the less I will have to loose after. I'm assuming that I won't go before March as I only had my consultation on october 30. I am wondering how many surgeries he will be performing per week once he starts in January. I can't wait for this whole process to be done as I am soo nervous to get the operation. Hope we hear something soon.

Dr. Savoie didn't say anything about losing weight before the 2 weeks on SlimFast. I thing, he said different things to different people. Dr. Savoie asked the guy who already got his date to go to Fit for Life and lose weight before. For me it was only the 2 weeks prior the surgery and I have one of my friend who's going to have the lapband surgery plus the duodenal switch, he didn't say anything to her before going for the surgery. Not even the 2 weeks on SlimFast. Maybe we're going to receive some pre-op paper and it will say otherwise, I don't know. I hope they're going to receive all the equipement they need soon.

What I heard is that the maximum of surgery he can do in a weed is one because they have a schedule for all the surgeons so they can each have their turn.

The new operating rooms are not ready yet. That's what I've heard the last time I was at the hospital.

I'm going to Saint John for part of the Holidays, hope I'll behave. Right now, I'm having a really hard time to lose weight.

If dr Savoie can only do 1 surgery per week I won't have my surgery done until the end of next year. From the information they provided me they started the consulations the second week of october and they were doing them once a week and they we seeing about 15 patients. So at one a week it will take forever before I can have my surgery. I am anxious to get this over with and start the weight loss process.

Perhaps it's one surgery day not one surgery. For banding they can do anywhere from 4 to 6 per day so the wait might not be as long as you think.

Here are the various verb forms for "lose":

- "I am losing weight" (present tense)

- "I lost weight" (past tense)

- "I will lose weight" (future tense)

Note that NONE of these spellings has two o's, just one! The word "loose" means the opposite of "tight". For example, "Even though my band has been loose for the past few months, I still have lost weight".

Another word one often sees being misused is "weight". Your "weight" is a number, while the word "weigh" is a verb. So, do not write that "I weight 180 pounds". But you could write, "I weighed myself and was happy to find that my weight is now 180 pounds."

I don't know if it's true about once a week and I'm like you I'm pretty anxious too. Like fousilly was saying, in one day they can do at least 5 or 6 lap band surgeries. I was at the hospital today for blood test and I almost went and ask if they had a date schedule for my surgery on their computer but I didn't. I'm wondering if we call they would tell us?
