I am gaining weight

Recommended Posts

Hey all, I had my surgery 9-29-08, I am doing good with the healing and the only problem I am having is the gas..I am now on mushies, canned items, I am not really cheating. I get my first fill 11-21-08. Now that I am healed I feel no restriction and I can eat more that the cup of food every one is talking about...Has anyone had this problem before. I feel like this was a waste of my time and my insurance. Will this stop once I get a Fill???? Please help... Gigi:blink::)

Dont worry girl with out a fill your not going to have any restriction. gaining weight right now is normal. just follow the food guidline and when you get your fill it will be a different story. dont worry about lossing weight right now just continue to heal and and make the best food choices you can...hang in there

I was banded on 10/23 and was told that the only restriction that I'm feeling right now is swelling from surgery. Once the swelling is gone I will probably not feel any restriction, but to keep up with my food stages and also main the 1200 calorie diet. You won't start feeling restrictions until your first maybe second and third fill, but all in all it is worth it.. this process is much slower than gastric bypass, but all in all it will work. You are on your way..

OMG! I felt the same exact way wondering if this is awaste of time and money that insurance wont cover. I just got banded on Oct 16 and I dont feel restricted, sometimes chewed too fast, swallowed too much at one time and then I might feel like theres somethng stuck, but I'm trying to stick to the diet. I'm doing ok and have 4 weeks before my first fill. Lets cross out fingers. Everyone is doing so well wit the band, so I'm trying not to get discouraged.

I am learning to be very patient. I had my first fill 2 weeks ago and I haven't lost a pound. Plus I exercise 3 x a week. I know that it won't always be this way. At least I am not gaining which is a victory in itself.

Gigi, We are banded twins. I am still on only liquids. I have lost 26 lbs. But if I weigh everyday I go up and down. I have had 1 fill and have another Wednesday. My dr. does not prefill and he gradually fills it over 4 weeks. I can't have mushies until November 10. I am so tired of cream Soup. What are you eating as mushies? Good luck and please keep in touch. Dot

Don't worry , it will all come together, we all expect a miracle after surgery and there is no such thing. It has been 14 months for me now and I am still loosing slowly but steady. What u r feeling is normal and yes it feels like you are gaining, but believe me it will surely change, just keep looking ahead.

Hi there! I am still just in the research phase but I see a lot of post and blogs that talk about 'bandster hell' which is that time period you are in post surgery but before the first fill. So don't stress what you are going through is common and will level out as you get to the 'sweet spot' in terms of the right fill amount. Glad you are going well. I heard the gas x strips and the liquid gas drops are good for gas so try that!

I have felt the same frustrations you have. I hovered around the same few pounds, losing and gaining. I began to wonder if somehow I was sabotaging myself. However, I have been told several times that until you get a fill, don't worry about it. My doctor only expects me to lose 3 pounds from my followup visit, which was a week ago, until my first fill on November 13th. I also noted that it was close to my TOM and my body was hording Water. Don't give up and don't be discouraged. Stick with the plan and be patient (I know, easy to say, hard to do). I have gotten stuck several times to the tune of throwing up (not pretty).

Hey, I think we all went through this after surgery. We all really wanted a miracle the day after surgery, but it is going to take time. You have no restriction right so you are going to be able to eat more as your swelling from surgery goes down. I have had a fill and still can eat more if I wanted to. I am trying really hard to stay on plan though. That is really all that we can do until we get good restriction. Don't get discouraged. Our time will come soon.

I had my post-op appointment yesterday and I've lost a total of 23lbs. That includes the post op 10lbs and 13lbs since surgery. My doctor said I was doing good, but the hard part is now. Since the swelling is gone I'm not going to feel any restrictions. My first fill is not until 19-December. He told me to stay with my modified 1200 calorie diet exercise and maintain. He said if I could maintain what I've lost until I get my restrictions and hit my "sweet spot" that would be great. If I lost anything in the process even better. So with that in mind just keep devloping "good" eating habits and when you start your fills you will be ready to go...

I was just banded on Oct 29, I was on liquids for about 10days and now I am on mushies and still drinking my Protein. It's interesting to know that the weight loss will slow down even after your first fill. My 1st fill is scheduled on 12/11 so I will see how I'm doing after the healing is complete.

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

So proud of you Cat. Getting into those smaller size clothes is half the fun isn't it?. Keep up the good work!!!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞

I may have to have gall bladder surgery during my weight loss surgery. Not thrilled about it either but do not want 2 recovery times. Just want it over with.

Thanks for your post. I may need to rethink my decision... :(
