Life of LapBand?

I will be banded on Nov. 19! and I have a question. How long does the band last. I have heard lots of different things...anything from 3 years to ten and beyond. What is the longest some of you have been banded and does the band continue to be effective for the entire time. I asked my dr. these same questions and he gave me great answers but I wanted to hear from real people who know from personal experience. Thanks you all!

I thought it was supposed to last for life. It has only been licensed in the U.S. since 2001, right? There probably won't be a lot of folks who can attest to longer life than that? Just a guess....

I've heard the band lasts indefinately, but many have to have the tubing and port replaced. It was my understanding that it's there for life. That's what I'm counting on anyway..... I understand that problems may develop after many years, but most can be rectified. If I take care of it, and myself I should have many happy years as a bandster.
