Bandsters Nov 17-21

Recommended Posts

WHAT UP Nov. 17-21 bandsters!!!! November is FINALLY here!!! My name's Lisa and I'm getting banded Nov. 18th!!! I am soooo excited!!!

I have a 2 week pre-op diet, which is ALL Slimfast Optima or ALL Atkins shakes. My surgeon is adament about doing ALL one kind of one kind of shake or the other and that's it. Nothing else, except Water.

I think he was a little upset when he sent that memo out to his patients, because I have a sneaky suspicion he went into surgery and found a lot of fatty livers...a lot of people maybe...cheating on their pre-op diet???

I don't know....well, it's freakin hard---I don't blame my big brothers and sisters out there...but we have to maintain people, we have to remain focused...we can do it...it is only 2 weeks....we aren't going to let 2 weeks stand in our way of freedom and health!!!

Good luck to everybody!

Great thread!

PEACE

Hi all!

I live in Allen, AngieAngel!

I am scheduled for surgery on 11/21/2008 with Dr. Manuel Castro through TLCEdge. I am paying cash.

Preop will be for two weeks prior to surgery consisting of six Protein shakes a day, all the broth, SF Jello and SF popsicles. I have been practicing with this some days and do really well. Other days I really struggle with an insane desire to eat everything I can while I still can. I keep reminding myself that I won't be giving up everything, just bread, gum and carbonation most likely!

I am glad to meet you all and look forward to both supporting you and being supported.

I miss Texas very much. Back when I was much much younger I worked for Terrell's Dry Cleaning...now he is mayor...WEIRD.

I think I am going to have my pic taken every 10 lbs lost and make a cool graphic of me shrinking. :rolleyes2::D:D

Mornin' Soon-to-be-Bandsters!

Started my pre-op diet today...LisafromCali - I can totally relate! I've had a Protein shake, a banana and just finished an apple. If this "hunger" keeps up, I'm going to take an early lunch and go for a brisk walk to shut that hungry voice up!

I really want all to go well with my surgery - therefore, I am NOT going to cheat on my self-imposed pre-op eating plan. The doc didn't say I HAD to do it, but if it will shrink my liver and make things easier for him, I'm all for it!

Stay strong, fellow Bandsters - We Can Do It!

Hi everyone! Our week is coming up soon....my date is November 19th and like the rest of us, I CAN'T WAIT!!! I've started my preop diet--not that my surgeon required that--but since I had insurance hassles and my original September date got cancelled, you know the story.....I wasn't really watching my diet at all. I've dropped 9 pounds so far having high Protein Shakes for 2 meals and a reasonable real food meal for the third. Good luck to all of us!!!

Hello all. How fun to find fellow Texans here!

I had my psych eval this past Saturday..major positive experience. I meet with the surgeon tomorrow and start my pre-op on Friday. Eek!

I have been sick as a dog since Saturday. I sure hope this goes away soon. I am ready to fall over out of my chair with fatigue. I am glad it hit before I started my pre-op at least. Not sure why, just seems like it would be more difficult to deal with if I were also worried about my chicken Soup or something.

I am getting excited now. My bariatric psychologist was so positive and so encouraging. I really loved her and feel like I have another tool at my fingertips to help me succeed now that I know I can call her.

Hi! First Post...interested to see that you said you were using Dr. Castro. I haven't found much about him on this site or any others, other than his own. I am trying to get my paperwork, testing, etc. done in order to get surgery the same day as you. Since he is the only one that does surgery on that day w/TLC I would have to use him. Have you talked w/others that have used him?

I found a LOT of reviews of him on obesityhelp.com. I met with him yesterday and I feel really, really comfortable with him as my surgeon. His whole office is awesome. He is very soft spoken, but smiles genuinely, looks you in the eye and he took as much time with me as I needed, asking me several times for more questions if I have them.

Good luck!

That makes me feel better. I did see those reviews on the other site. However, there is so much on other doctors here that it made me leary there was not any info or opinions here. I went to a PCP for tests and clearance yesterday and he made me very scared about going out of state for surgery. (the price is about 4K less) Then when I read those liquid diet requirements, I freaked out a little. I was 100% sure until yesterday. Thanks for your input.

Hi everyone! I live in north jersey and my surgery is 11/21! I'm so nervous and excited at the same time! I don't have to do a pre-opt diet, just no eating after 10pm I believe.

On day 4 of the 2 week liquid pre-op diet. Surgery scheduled for June 11th.
Soooo I am coming to a realization
of something and I'm not sure what to do about it. For years the only thing I've enjoyed is eating. We rarely do anything or go anywhere and if we do it always includes food. Family comes over? Big family dinner! Go camping? Food! Take a short ride or trip? Food! Holiday? Food! Go out of town for a Dr appointment? Food! When we go to a new town we don't look for any attractions, we look for restaurants we haven't been to. Heck, I look forward to getting off work because that means it's almost supper time. Now that I'm drinking these pre-op shakes for breakfast, lunch, and supper I have nothing to look forward to.  And once I have surgery on June 11th it'll be more of the same shakes. Even after pureed stage, soft food stage, and finally regular food stage, it's going to be a drastic change for the rest of my life. I'm giving up the one thing that really brings me joy. Eating. How do you cope with that? What do you do to fill that void? Wow. Now I'm sad.

Life as a big person had limited my life to what I knew I could manage to do each day. That was eat. I hadn't anything else to look forward to. So my eating choices were the best I could dream up. I planned the cooking in managable lots in my head and filled my day with and around it.

Now I have a whole new big, bigger, biggest, best days ever. I am out there with those skinny people doing stuff i could never have dreamt of. Food is now an after thought. It doesn't consume my day. I still enjoy the good home cooked food but I eat smaller portions. I leave food on my plate when I am full. I can no longer hear my mother's voice saying eat it all up, ther are starving children in Africa who would want that!

I still cook for family feasts, I love cooking. I still do holidays but I have changed from the All inclusive drinking and eating everything everyday kind to Self catering accommodation. This gives me the choice of cooking or eating out as I choose. I rarely drink anymore as I usually travel alone now and I feel I need to keep aware of my surroundings.

I don't know at what point my life expanded, was it when I lost 100 pounds? Was it when I left my walking stick at home ? Was it when I said yes to an outing instead of finding an excuse to stay home ? i look back at my last five years and wonder how loosing weight has made such a difference. Be ready to amaze yourself.

BTW, the liquid diet sucks, one more day and you are over the worst. You can do it.

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!
