Any December '08 Bandsters?

Recommended Posts

Tomorrow is my big day. I have to be at the hospital at 6am. I am so excited to start this next phase. I am sick of shakes, Tomato Soup, yogurt and pudding. I know I have at least another 2-3 weeks of that but at least I can add in applesauce and bananas in a week. :tongue2:

Aside from the lack of weight loss I am still shrinking the belly is down 2 inches in the 3 days that I haven't lost any weight " not sure about the physics behind that".:tongue2:

Since muscle weighs more than fat you can actually gain weight and still lose inches. and the more muscle you gain the easier it is to lose fat.

How did u like Dr. Kuri? I have been reading about him and am thinking of going there for my band?

Hiya!

Dr. Kuri was excellent. He was very calming and took time to talk to us the day before the surgery and even joked with us. There was 4 of us the day of our surgery and he had met with us a group the night before. My incisions are healing very well and are nice and small. Dr. Kuri has one of the best bed side manners in all the doctors that I have ever seen. He treated me as a person and not as a "patient" so to speak.

The hospital was exceptionally clean and felt more like a hotel rather then a hospital. Fact was the hospital was actually nicer then the hotel we all stayed at the night after.

The staff at the hospital was all very professional and polite. Most of them did not speak a word of english but usually there was one person around that could. If I needed anything there was always someone there who spoke english to assist me.

The one thing I would suggest you do before going to any surgeon outside of the USA is to locate a fill center to get your follow ups and fills at. For me I have to travel about 45 minutes away to get mine done. Others I know have more problems and have to travel further and of course there are those that don't have to travel that far at all.

To sum things up I would have to say it was an excellent experience. I would recommend Dr. Kuri to anyone considering traveling to Mexico for sugery.:tongue2:

I'm being band on Wed. Dec. 17th. WOW I can't wait!

I know there are 3 or 4 of us 12/17 people. If I'm home on the 18th I'll check in. This thread should stay active well into January.

Hi Mair...I'm guessing that's a twist on Mary? I have a favorite cousin named Mary and I always refer to her as "Mair."

I'm so happy for you that you fought the system and won! Congratulations! You're almost there!

I was fortunate not to have to do a pre-op diet...just had to lose 10% of my EBW (10 lbs) and I've done that. I've been moderately enjoying some yummy "last meals" while exercising more so I get the best of both worlds. I wanted to have a bit of wiggle room so I'm down 13 pounds, but also wanted to indulge a bit before surgery during the holidays. Thanksgiving was great and I have no qualms about missing Christmas dinner this year! They'll be many more (and happier) Christmas' to come!

Best of luck to you come Tuesday. I'll say a prayer for the both of us!

Hi Peaches...you're the day after me. I'm very excited as well! How long is your pre-op diet? Mine is two days Clear Liquids. I'm not thrilled about the prospect, but I'm not dreading it either. And I have found that with each passing day my nerves are keeping me from having that "gotta eat it" feeling. I suspect that the two days prior to surgery will be anxious enough to curb my appetite. Do you suspect the same with you?

Loved the visual I got of imaging your family as food! Reminds me of Alex the Lion in Madagascar when he imagined all the animals as steaks!

Good luck to you!

Yes, My name is Marianne, when I got declined the insurance company made me wait 30 days before they gave me an answer. I am so glad that its time. Also on friday, they laid me off from my job, so this is just in time. I have coverage until the end of the month and then its over. I also dont have any quams about missing Christmas food, there will be many more Christmas' that I can enjoy with my kids.

Best of luck to you also.

I am looking forward for tuesday. I didn't get a time yet, they should call tomorrow with that information.

My surgery is set for the 17th!! Only 3 more days! I have been on liquids all day yesterday and today and so far so good. I think I wont have any problems making it 2 more days! Wish me luck tho, I know I could use it. Reading all the posts has been great and such a learning tool, just all the different opinions and useful ideas. I am so glad I found this site! I am a little confused between clear liquids and liquid diet. My paperwork says clear liquids but also lists Protein Shakes, yogurt and other "unclear" liquids. Anyone have any thoughts as to that? I have staying with clear except for my Protein Shake. That has been like my only "meal". I am wishing everyone the best results and look forward to reading up on everyone's progress! Merry Christmas to us.

Hey Pete,

You are right on when you talk about Dr. Kuri and his fabulous staff. Since we were banded on the 5th together I have dropped 10lbs. I'm so excited. I have actually started to add in cottage cheese and egg beaters to my menu because I wasn't getting enough Protein. I'm still trying to get in all the liquids that they want but that was a problem even before I had the surgery. My port is the only place that bothers me now. If I move a certain way and I cant lie on that side yet, but all else is going pretty good. We will talk soon.

Saara

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!
