Slipped on the Stairs...

Recommended Posts

Tonight I was coming down the stairs and my foot slipped. I was banded on Oct. 1st, so I am 5 days out. I landed on my bottom on the next stair down, so I didn't fall far. However, I fell hard and had a very bad pain at my port incision. I am feeling better now, still very sore though. Has anyone else been clumsy like me and fell after just having surgery? If so, what happened? Did your port come off? Did your band move? Would there be excruciating pain if either of these things happened?

I'm going to call my doctor in the morning. I have a follow up appointment next Tuesday, but I'm not sure if I should go in sooner or what.

Am I being paranoid? Please help!

Thanks,

Shanna:confused:

You're probably ok. We're pretty well insulated on the inside. It's a good idea to call your doc but if you can still swallow ok and are sore but no odd symptoms, it can wait until tomorrow.

If you have any concerns or worries about it call your doc first thing tomorrow. Let them know what happened. Most likely you are fine but also...the scarring is barely taking place at the port that soon and it could possibly come loose...but if you aren't having problems I'd say it's not likely. Just call your surgeon to be sure. I hope everything is fine. Good luck.

Yup! I did it! First, about 5 days after surgery, I was getting into bed after waking up to pee, forgot about it, went to get in bed like I normally did, and my arms gave out and fell face down onto the mattress. Thankfully the mattress was soft, but it did hurt.

Than a week and a half after the surgery, I came home for a few hours, tripped and went flying face first down, I was so scared, so I braced myself and landed on my face and knee, I had my first follow up that day and the dr said everything was ok.

Hope all stays well.

Thanks everyone for your replies and words of encouragement. I called my surgeon the next morning and he said it was "very unlikely" that anything happened, especially since I was feeling better that morning and not worse.

I am doing great now. I am still a little sore in my port area, especially if I sit for too long. But, other than that, I have continued to improve. My post-op is on Tuesday the 14th, so I'll be able to check my status then. I can't wait to get on mushies!:wink2:

Thanks again everyone!

Shanna

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
