A Great Feeling!

Recommended Posts

For 8 years or more, I have been at least a size 20. Everytime I went up a size I was kicking myself for letting it happen. I got up to a size 24. That is when I decided to have the surgery.

Since the surgery I have not been shopping as I have been a bit scared. Some friends finally convinced me to go as all my pants are falling off me. We went to NBC because I do not want to pay a lot for clothes I won't be wearing long. When I walked in, I saw the cutest pair of Ralph Lauren jeans with embellishments. I looked at the size and they were an 18. I grabbed them thinking there was no way I could get into them yet but hopefully soon. I continued shopping picking up several pair of size 20 pants. I finally went to the dressing room and, just for kicks, tried on the cute jeans first. When they zipped up no problem, I didn't know whether to scream or cry for joy. I went out to the store looking for my friends. The other people thought I was nuts when I was saying loudly, "they are a size 18!"

I then had a sobering thought. What if they are just made big? So I went back and tried on size 20. They were too big! I did another little happy dance in the dressing room.

I am so excited for you! I too had that same experience. There is nothing better than realizing you will never ever have to shop at a plus size shop anymore!!! Congrats!

What a great feeling! Isn't weird to look at smaller sizes. I too think, oh, that can't fit me - and guess what, it does! I cried when I tried on the 20s and they fit the first time. I was all alone and did not have anyone to share with.

Way to go, keep up the hard work and you will soon be in a 16! Can you imagine! Woo Hoo!

This same thing happened to me today, but I was shopping in the back of my own closet!! I pulled out a pair of 18 petite jeans that I bought with the intention of losing a few, you know how that goes, never happens!!!

And so I thought well I will just try these on and see how far I have to go...well I wore them all day!!! I can't wait to wear the cute 16 white pants I have that still have the tags on them!!

Way to go for all of us.

That's so awesome! I've been shopping in my closest too!LOL It's really sad that I have from size 4 petite - 24 to choose from! My poor husband! Anywho!! I'm out of the 24's now and I'm wearing my 22's, I can't wait to drop another size!

You all are doing so great, keep up the good work!(:

LOL on the closet shopping. I pulled out my size 18 petite jeans a few weeks ago and they were a tad tight but fit. Now they fit perfectly. I have some 18 tops that are looking goood too.

I only have a few size 16 things and can't wait for them to fit.

Then after that it's just jeans and t-shirts till I lose it all. I won't buy any new clothes except undies and bras till I lose it all.

Since I am retired I don't need any work type clothing which is good.

Shamrock~ Wish I could do jeans and t-shirts until the weight was gone! I have bought some new work clothes in a smaller size, I was starting to look ridiculous in my old clothes! I wish I could go closet shopping. My dd made my throw away a ton of my clothes a couple of years ago, so I could update my look and not embarass her at school! LOL! I think I have been the same size for the past 15 years!

I did buy a new bra and undies. I could no longer fill out my old bra cups - it was pretty funny looking. It is amazing when I go to try on clothes, I think, no way will that fit me, and it does! Pretty cool! I have just purchased a few necessities to get me through each size as I pass through!

The bra and undies are needed for sure! I started in August with a bra of 40 DD and today I am wearing a 38 D. I had the old one on and husband starting laughing so I thought...hmmmm I better fix this. Such a amazing feeling to wear things that I feel good in. I know that I am still obese but I feel so much better that is what really suprises me!

Last week I had another WOOHOO moment. I had to go to Reno for a conference. This was my first time flying since beginning to lose weight. The last time I flew I had to have a seatbelt extender. I was kinda holding my breath, being both nervous and excited, to see if I wouldn't need one this time. When I put it on without the extender I was so excited then, when I pulled it about 5 inches to tighten it, I was about to come out of my seat I was so happy. My coworker just laughed at me for getting so excited but it was a huge deal for me.

On day 4 of the 2 week liquid pre-op diet. Surgery scheduled for June 11th.
Soooo I am coming to a realization
of something and I'm not sure what to do about it. For years the only thing I've enjoyed is eating. We rarely do anything or go anywhere and if we do it always includes food. Family comes over? Big family dinner! Go camping? Food! Take a short ride or trip? Food! Holiday? Food! Go out of town for a Dr appointment? Food! When we go to a new town we don't look for any attractions, we look for restaurants we haven't been to. Heck, I look forward to getting off work because that means it's almost supper time. Now that I'm drinking these pre-op shakes for breakfast, lunch, and supper I have nothing to look forward to.  And once I have surgery on June 11th it'll be more of the same shakes. Even after pureed stage, soft food stage, and finally regular food stage, it's going to be a drastic change for the rest of my life. I'm giving up the one thing that really brings me joy. Eating. How do you cope with that? What do you do to fill that void? Wow. Now I'm sad.

Life as a big person had limited my life to what I knew I could manage to do each day. That was eat. I hadn't anything else to look forward to. So my eating choices were the best I could dream up. I planned the cooking in managable lots in my head and filled my day with and around it.

Now I have a whole new big, bigger, biggest, best days ever. I am out there with those skinny people doing stuff i could never have dreamt of. Food is now an after thought. It doesn't consume my day. I still enjoy the good home cooked food but I eat smaller portions. I leave food on my plate when I am full. I can no longer hear my mother's voice saying eat it all up, ther are starving children in Africa who would want that!

I still cook for family feasts, I love cooking. I still do holidays but I have changed from the All inclusive drinking and eating everything everyday kind to Self catering accommodation. This gives me the choice of cooking or eating out as I choose. I rarely drink anymore as I usually travel alone now and I feel I need to keep aware of my surroundings.

I don't know at what point my life expanded, was it when I lost 100 pounds? Was it when I left my walking stick at home ? Was it when I said yes to an outing instead of finding an excuse to stay home ? i look back at my last five years and wonder how loosing weight has made such a difference. Be ready to amaze yourself.

BTW, the liquid diet sucks, one more day and you are over the worst. You can do it.

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!
