I just had surgery last week. My left shoulder, arm and back is killing me. Did any of you have this happen and what did you do? It hurts so bad!! Also, how long after surgery until you stopped feeling uncomftorable? Tomorrow it has been a week since surgery and i am still hurting a little bit.

Sorry to hear that you are in pain.

I hear that alot of people have that pain as well. Since I haven't had surgery yet, I don't know if it's ture. If you read some here you will see that people say the same thing, it will go away about 2 weeks after.

I too was in a lot of pain. The recommendations that were given to me and help relieve the pain for awhile is: Take some Gas-X and go for a walk.. Also put a warm WET town between you and the heating pad. Mine lasted for about two weeks, I promise you it will go away. Good luck!

Yeah I had pain in my shoulder also. But it only lasted about 5-7 days. I just put an heating pad on it and took pain medication and it slowly started going away. But don't give up the littlt bit of pain is worth the gain..

I just had surgery on Mon. and I too have really bad gas pains. My Dr. warned me about the shoulder pain b/c of the same nerves that innervate. I only had the shoulder pain the first night but now I have terrible pain in my chest. I posted a thread to seek help as well. I think the only thing we can do is walk of course and gasX strips. Neither of those seem to be helping so I guess I will have to wait it out.:( I've heard that the gas can last up to 3 wks. Grr...I sure hope not!

I had the same thing happen to me about the same time. I believe it was the air that they blow your stomach up with.

I had it too. It lasted for about a week. Gas X strips (extra strength), heating pad, walking, warm showers, and peppermint tea all helped. It will go away, but it sure does hurt. Mine was in my shoulder and my chest too. Becky

I had my surgery 9/22. The gas pain just eased up today. It felt like someone was crushing my left shoulder. Far worse than the belly pain, and lasted longer.

I took gas-x. didn't help much. but yesterday i spent $10 on gas-x ultra strength liquid gels. Took one. Today, I'm better. I think it's just my luck- I get better right after spending $10.

what really seemed to help was resting on my side. I walked, drank Hot drinks, but just lying on either side helped the most.

I had horrible left shoulder pain too, but I believe it is mostly your tubing touching nerves or something else inside. I think after the swelling went down in my stomach it just dissappeared at about 1 1/2 weeks out.

I am ten days post op and still have some discomfort in my shoulder. It actually comes and goes now. I have less discomfort after walking. The gas-x strips really didn't help me. I kept taking them, but I noticed after walking maybe 5 to 10 minutes, I would start releasing the gas (TMI I know). That would bring immediate relief. I hope you feel better soon.

On day 4 of the 2 week liquid pre-op diet. Surgery scheduled for June 11th.
Soooo I am coming to a realization
of something and I'm not sure what to do about it. For years the only thing I've enjoyed is eating. We rarely do anything or go anywhere and if we do it always includes food. Family comes over? Big family dinner! Go camping? Food! Take a short ride or trip? Food! Holiday? Food! Go out of town for a Dr appointment? Food! When we go to a new town we don't look for any attractions, we look for restaurants we haven't been to. Heck, I look forward to getting off work because that means it's almost supper time. Now that I'm drinking these pre-op shakes for breakfast, lunch, and supper I have nothing to look forward to.  And once I have surgery on June 11th it'll be more of the same shakes. Even after pureed stage, soft food stage, and finally regular food stage, it's going to be a drastic change for the rest of my life. I'm giving up the one thing that really brings me joy. Eating. How do you cope with that? What do you do to fill that void? Wow. Now I'm sad.

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!
