Ten days post-op and I wanna eat! What is / was everyone else eating at this point?

Recommended Posts

Hello All, I was banded on Tuesday, 23 Sept 2008, and I'm feeling great. I moved from Clear Liquids to full liquids a little early in the process [after 3 days! :) ]. Now I'm getting bored with the full liquids and wondering what other people are eating during this phase. Recommendations for the next phase [mushies or soft foods] would also be greatly appreciated!

Hi ya from Florida,

I was banded on Aug. 29th, I've lost close to 27 lbs. By day ten I was eating mushy egg salad, saltine crackers that melted in your mouth, applesauce with cottage cheese mixed in. And of course the SF pudding and SF Jello. You'll be three weeks post op before you know it. Good luck!

Hi! I am right there with you. I was banded on Thursday, Sept. 25th and am extremely bored with the liquids, especially when I smell other food that my kids are eating. Just take one day at a time and feel that weight falling off of you. Good luck!

My surgery was 9/22, and I know what you're talking about. Basically all i'm eating is very thin mashed potatoes (all different kinds. the sweet potatoes were a nice change), yogurt, cream of wheat, and occasionally Soup. i've also been making "milk shakes" out of my Protein drinks. Also a lot of different sf drinks.

i cannot tell you how badly i want a cup of coffee. and after reading this thread, egg salad and saltines!

I was banded on Sept 22nd and did the clear liquids for 3 days then moved onto blending Soups in the blender and also adding Water to dilute it. I'm also doing the EAS Protein Drinks. One EAS takes me all day to finish. Sometimes it takes 2 days to finish. Today I made some mac and cheese with ground beef and put it into the blender with some water to dilute it. There were no clumps. I plan on eating like that until a month is up. I mostly eat blended soups with water added. It is keeping me satisfied. I hope I'm not doing the wrong thing. Sometimes I wonder if I'm pushing it. I am going to check in with my doctor tomorrow to see if I'm messing myself up.

personally I and only 12 days post op and I am eating mac & cheese (well cooked) mashed potatoes, rice with ranch in it, Soups, smoothies, cottage cheese, cream of wheat. I began to get sick of always being hungry and after eating something with substance (rice, cream of wheat, potatoes) I could eat five or six bite and be satisfied until my next meal. My doc says that is a no no but only because it is so important that I not throw up. So I decided I will continue to eat what I am eating and just listen to my stomach no matter how good it is.

Hi , i was banded 9/22...my dr strongly recommends not eating anything for 3 wks...just liquids..puree to start 21 days into for a week...then mushies for a week then regular food...i'm so jealous that you can...but i have to follow orders ....i'm scared not too. he says it could damage the band sutures by the movement of the digestion process and you won't feel that right away but down the line it could mess things up. Take care and good luck.

I'm the same no. of days post-op, but I was told only liquids like cream Soups, bouillion, Protein Shakes, cream of wheat, etc. for four weeks, then start with pureed on the fifth week. I'm not hungry, but I hunger for the taste of some foods. I made a stir-fry for my foster kids and delighted lapping up some of the sauce I had made with bouillion and soy. It had the taste of the veggies and chicken in it. I would check with your doctor about eating the mushy foods like potatoes, etc.--now. My nutritionist even discouraged me for adding mashed potatoes to my diet later. You are so restricted that to get the Protein in, you can't fill up on potatoes and less nutritrious foods just because they are easy to eat.

I just called my doctors office and told them what I had been eating and when I started eating like that. They told me I was fine with what I had been doing. They said they just dont want any foods to get stuck or for me to throw up. As long as everything goes down without any problems then I will be fine. Throwing up jeapordizes the surgery so avoid that at all costs. They said by the end of weeks 3 and 4 is when I will really start to get hungry as that is when the stomach swelling goes down. I assume that is why they schedule a first fill a month out.:cool2:

My surgery was also onthe 23rd. I am stating to get hungry also. I had clear liquids for three days and then I am suppose to have full liquids with yogurt for 21 days. I have been feeling up on creamy Soups like campbell's broccoli and cheese and cream of chicken or mushroom starined to remove the particles. I think I am going to loose my mind. I feel like I am being tortured. I try not to think about the big picture and just think about one day at a time. Hopefully these 21 days will pass fast. Hang in there and know that you are not alone.

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞
