No...you will go to the prep room and in my case they asked me to wash with a wash cloth and hospital soap my stomach. Then I put one of those robes and went to the waiting room to be wheeled into the OR. All very private. I came out wearing the same robe. so I dont know if I was completelly naked or not.....if I was, who cares. I was dead asleep and nothing felt funny other than my stomach!!!! LOL!!!

Dont worry. you wont appear on Youtube

yes. But the parts the surgeon doesn't need to access are draped. Once done, you are re-dressed by the nurses. And trust me (i've observed in the OR) no one cares what you look like. They've seen worse, better, and everything in between. They are totally focused on the surgery and your status, not what you look like.

I am pretty sure you are. I know in my preop paperwork they said you can keep your underwear on and they will take them off in the O.R. At that point I didn't care.

Why do you need to have your underwear off? It's not like they're doing any surgery "down there." Just the idea of being naked in front of all those people really disturbs me!

Are you really concerned about being naked in front of a doctor? A doctor who has seen 234823490823957 different bodies.

Let's see what's more important....being healthy and losing weight, or worried about being naked during surgery?

Because you will get blood all over your panties and gown, that's why. Honestly, if you are going to trust the doc and his staff to knock you out, cut you open, place a band around your stomach, stitch it into place, close you up, and bring you back to after being paralyzed and intubated and so on, them "seeing" you naked is minor. You really need to get past it. They DO NOT CARE A BIT what you look like except t make sure you're getting oxygen and good blood flow. Why on earth would you think they give a rip? I mean really!!!

Probably even if you have 3 nipples and a tattoo that says "beam me up scotty" on your heiney they've probably seen it. They are there to do their job and keep you alive and safe, not leer at you. They are professionals. I'm a nursing student and trust me no one cares what you look like. NO ONE. Really.

LOL I just wanted to make a point! I understand being a little bashful, but honestly, no one cares. We're professionals, we docs and nurses and techs. We paid a lot of money and went to a lot of school to get to that OR. Leering and so on just isn't in the job description.

I also had a foley catheter, so no underwear going in or coming out. However, this was all done while I was knocked out, so I didn't feel a thing. This is so routine to the doctors and nurses, don't worry about it. Like others have said, they've seen worse and they've seen better.

I gave up all modesty when I gave birth to my children, which at the time I was flashing in front of everyone who walked by and screaming get them out!!!!

I was completely naked under the hospital gown they give you that opens up. Guess what, when they open it to do your surgery, you're naked. I had socks on my feet and a surgery cap on my head.

You're naked under the hospital gown. Obviously it will come up or off to get to your surgery.

While restless monkey has a point, in the scheme of things it really isn't important...You won't be awake to know what is going on. You are 'put under' before they even touch you.

But.. at the same time, I do understand your concern. Most people who are overweight are self-conscious about their bodies. I was embarrassed that I forgot to shave my legs before going to get my lab tests and they hooked some of the ekg monitors on my leg.

I was wondering if I should get waxed or something before surgery! LOL!

I decided against it.

Don't worry about it, worry more about your after care, make sure you have the things you need at home.

On day 4 of the 2 week liquid pre-op diet. Surgery scheduled for June 11th.
Soooo I am coming to a realization
of something and I'm not sure what to do about it. For years the only thing I've enjoyed is eating. We rarely do anything or go anywhere and if we do it always includes food. Family comes over? Big family dinner! Go camping? Food! Take a short ride or trip? Food! Holiday? Food! Go out of town for a Dr appointment? Food! When we go to a new town we don't look for any attractions, we look for restaurants we haven't been to. Heck, I look forward to getting off work because that means it's almost supper time. Now that I'm drinking these pre-op shakes for breakfast, lunch, and supper I have nothing to look forward to.  And once I have surgery on June 11th it'll be more of the same shakes. Even after pureed stage, soft food stage, and finally regular food stage, it's going to be a drastic change for the rest of my life. I'm giving up the one thing that really brings me joy. Eating. How do you cope with that? What do you do to fill that void? Wow. Now I'm sad.

Life as a big person had limited my life to what I knew I could manage to do each day. That was eat. I hadn't anything else to look forward to. So my eating choices were the best I could dream up. I planned the cooking in managable lots in my head and filled my day with and around it.

Now I have a whole new big, bigger, biggest, best days ever. I am out there with those skinny people doing stuff i could never have dreamt of. Food is now an after thought. It doesn't consume my day. I still enjoy the good home cooked food but I eat smaller portions. I leave food on my plate when I am full. I can no longer hear my mother's voice saying eat it all up, ther are starving children in Africa who would want that!

I still cook for family feasts, I love cooking. I still do holidays but I have changed from the All inclusive drinking and eating everything everyday kind to Self catering accommodation. This gives me the choice of cooking or eating out as I choose. I rarely drink anymore as I usually travel alone now and I feel I need to keep aware of my surroundings.

I don't know at what point my life expanded, was it when I lost 100 pounds? Was it when I left my walking stick at home ? Was it when I said yes to an outing instead of finding an excuse to stay home ? i look back at my last five years and wonder how loosing weight has made such a difference. Be ready to amaze yourself.

BTW, the liquid diet sucks, one more day and you are over the worst. You can do it.

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!
