Anyone go into surgery under 200 lbs?

Recommended Posts

I just wondered if anyone went into surgery under 200 lbs. and if so did you do okay with the surgery and diet afterward? I will be under 200 by the time I have surgery and was wondering if it would make any difference. Thanks.

well I wasn't quite at 200 around 205 or 208 day of surgery and I would do it again in a minute.... Just remember the band is a tool. Follow your diet, Protein, after care instructions and you should be good to go.

Think I was around 205 before my surgery on June 13, 2008. To date I've lost 34 pounds - which seems to be a lot less than others. I guess may be because the total amount of weight in total I need to lose is around 70 pounds, so I only have about 35 more pounds to go.

I was 207 at surgery. I've lost about 60 lb in 10 months, and gone from size 20 pants to size 6. Weight loss hasn't been earthshaking, but fairly steady. Exercise is important in continuing the weight loss, but it is easier as you start feeling better about yourself and what you can do.

Thanks for your answers. They were helpful. I am 201 as of today and I have surgery on Sept. 22nd. So with this liquid only diet until then I expect to be under 200. I have exercised for the last 7 years- but got to the point where diet, exercise and xenical only did so much. I was always hungry and hunger eventually won out. So, thanks again for your replies.

I weighed 180 at the time of surgery. I was banded June 23rd and have only lost 2 lbs total. I am not discouraged as my fill nurse said you don't have that much to lose ( I had all the comorbidites--High blood pressure, high cholestrol, high blood sugar). The surgery was the easiest part of the whole journey. The slow weight loss has been the most chalenging. I have had 2 fills for a total of 5cc in a 10cc band. I do have lots of restriction in the morning but it loosens up quite a bit by the afternoon. I eat Proteins first, then veggies and then maybe a few carbs. I do get hungry every 2 hours and that has been the hardest thing. I do yoga and pilates and walk on the treadmill. I am scheduled for another fill on Aug. 19th and I am hoping this fill will keep me full for 4 or more hours. I can't eat that much at one time but I get hungry quickly after. Good luck and be patient I know its hard to wait when you have invested so much time, money and energy into this.

the afternoon before surgery - final preop appt, i was exactly 200lbs, the following AM i was 195. my surgeon warned me that my weightloss might be slow and to not get discouraged. he was right, very slow start - but then i guess the exercise started to pay off, along with revamping my diet ....things just excellerated.

you should do fine - set realistic expectations; don't compare yourself to others & you will do great!

i would be hungry too if i relied on Protein drinks for meals. i use them as a snack before a workout, otherwise my dr is a big fan of getting your calories from solid meals. high in Protein with complex carbs/fruits & veggies. let your dr know your frustration, you shouldn't be unhappy & you can eat meals and lose weight....

good luck my5dollys tomorrow!!!

I was 208 for first dr appt. 200/199 day of surgery on 7/24/2008. Yeah your weight loss will be less than most but steady. I've lost total of 24 (including pre-surgery diet). I'm happy and would do again without question.

I was 176.8 lbs on my scale when banded on May 22/08.

I have lost 21.2 lbs, by never eating more than a cup of food at a time, eating Protein first & eating every 3-4 hours whether I am hungry or not, so I am rarely hungry. I am now stepping up the exercise.

I am happy with at 1 lb week average loss.

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

So proud of you Cat. Getting into those smaller size clothes is half the fun isn't it?. Keep up the good work!!!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞

I may have to have gall bladder surgery during my weight loss surgery. Not thrilled about it either but do not want 2 recovery times. Just want it over with.

Thanks for your post. I may need to rethink my decision... :(
