I'm Hungry

Grrrrr..... I'm hungry. I had my one week follow-up appt. today and the dietician told me it will only get worse until I get my fill (in 3 weeks). She also told me not to get discouraged if I gain a couple of pounds before my fill. Does anyone out there have any suggestions to satisfy hunger before getting the first fill? It's soooo frustrating... help.

Yes Jodi is right...we are healing and can't risk eating/digestion. What happens during this post op phase is different for everyone, however. For example, even after we are healed we are to eat only 3 meals a day. No Snacks. Not all docs are that strict. I have some problem distinguishing what I must not do because it will HURT me, and what I must not do because the nutritionist feels it is inappropriate. If I want to drink Brand X Protein powder with o fat and 19 gms protein, and no sugar or carbs, then I don't quite understand why I MUST drink her Brand Q protein powder with o fa and 19 gms proein and no carbs or sugar. I can't help it; I believe in that saying "Question Authority". I'm compliant for now but I feel a rebellion brewing.

I'm so glad that my doc wasn't that strict. I had my first fill about 2 weeks ago and I am so hungry all the time! I can only eat a little amount at one time, but then I'm hungry again in a couple of hours, so I eat a little more of something else. I am still losing, so I suppose that this is okay. I see my doc again next week, so I am going to see what his advise will be on this.

good luck! And may hunger pangs never bother you again! :crying:

Thanks Lynnie! This is such a new thing; it's hard to sort good info from bad! I am having proteins now and feeling a little more human; but I rebelled by buying my own type of protein powder (low carb low fat, but my choice LOL) and I feel better. AND the sky hasn't fallen yet, either! :crying:

well i am one week and 1 day postop and i am starting to get hungry too. I have tried most of the tricks others have mentioned but nothing has worked. I have now been able to tell the difference between really being hungry and just thinking im hungry cause im bored. I start my pureed foods on Tuesday and cant wait because at least its food. My doctor just tells me this is a healing process. So i guess i got to deal with it for now

hi im the opposite im 5 weeks post op and i lost 34 lbs but now ive gained a few i get my first fill on the 10 th max protein by gnc is great stuff i bought a hand mixer 2 scoops in water juice or milk and you have 88 grams of protein mix the vanilla with oj and you have a creamsicle also if youre having little or no restriction drink something cold instead of warm broth or soup it tends to make the band contract hang in there good times are coming

One of the tricks I recently learned that seems to work for that evening "head hunger" or eating out of boredom, is to brush your teeth. The taste seems to trigger the hunger off, at least for me. Worst case, your teeth and breath are better! Doing something physical will often trigger hunger off as well.
