Recommended Posts

I had my surgery on July 2 and tommorrow I finally get my band filled! The doc didn't tell me what to do before the fill. All I know to do is to be on liquids on the first day. What did yall do the day of the fill and the day after, I need all the advise I can get!! Iam getting excited because I finally can get on the road to weight loss.$

I had my first fill yesterday. It was a long wait, but it's done now. My doctor told me to have nothing by mouth for the three hours before the fill. Then I had 24 hours of Clear Liquids, and 24 hours of mushies, and tomorrow I am back to regular food. If I can eat it. Man alive, this adjustment is an adjustment.

It's tight, but not so tight I cannot drink Clear Liquids, so long as I sip slowly. Food...well, even with mushies today, my total caloric intake for food was about 300, and that was a chore. (I did supplement with some Protein shots.)

All in all, it's interesting, and exciting, but not all of it is just whoop it up fun. In fact, anyone who points an accusing finger and says I took the easy way might find themselves eating through a straw while their jaw heals! hmmph! lol

Hello,

You don't have to do anything before getting the fill. It appears each hospital/surgeon has different rules to follow after receiving a fill.

My surgeon suggests going back to liquids for 3-4 days, mushies 3-4 days.. then on to solids again. You can lose anywhere from 5-10 lbs within that short time. It helps control the intake of food as well and gets you adjusted when you first start feeling the restriction again..(even liquids were making me so full!).

Also, Your band needs time to heal after it's been filled. I usually do the whole 4 days of liquids and 4 days of mushies as recommended by my surgeon.

Good luck!!

Just to demonstrate how different doctors are, mine says do nothing special before a fill. After a fill stay on mushies for 24 hours then eat normally.

So, you need to follow your own doctors' orders, not ours!

My doctor has no special requirements before the fill. However, the first 2 days after the fill are full liquids then the second 2 days are mushies. After that return to solid food. Eat slowly!!!

Thanks guys!! I went for my fill yesterday and it went great! I did eat arbys roast beef and cheese an hour before and was full all night until today around 1:00 pm. I drunk my 8 oz of protien and had a 1/2 cup of pudding and it feels like I had a whole pizza!! Its a wonderful feeling and Iam now feeling better about my band. My doc wants me to stay on liquids for 2 days then eat 2 oz of food at a pea sized bites then if Iam still hungry 20 min later eat 2 more oz. I only lost 9 lbs since my surgery but thats fine, iam ready to get skinny for next summer!!!

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞

I may have to have gall bladder surgery during my weight loss surgery. Not thrilled about it either but do not want 2 recovery times. Just want it over with.

Thanks for your post. I may need to rethink my decision... :(
