I have the flu. bla:crying:. When I gave blood my immune system wasnt' that great because I don't eat a lot and was coming down with the flu. So now it's taking a while to replace the blood lose and get over the flu at the same time. Nothing to do with my band. Thank heavens.

Hi ALl

Just wanted to check in to say hello and to say congrats to everyone for thier success! Cyndi hope you are feeling better by now!

For those of you who were wondering...NO I didn't go to have the band unfilled. My last fill was miserable but it is about 4 weeks now and it seems to have loosened up a bit. I am no longer waking up at night choking on my saliva and I am still losing weight. I think I might insist on a smaller fill next time. ;-) I am excited to tell you that after 5 months I have lost 36 pounds and am more than 1/2 way to my goal of 150! Woo Hoo! I know it isn't as much as most of you have lost but I am thrilled with it! Keep up the good work and talk to you soon!!

Congrats Molly! I sure hope everyone will continue to keep in touch. Many people don't seem to have written in lately and I wonder about them. Hopefully they are all doing really well and are just too busy with their new life to check in.

Hi everyone,

I'm now almost three weeks after my 2nd fill (Total of 4 CC's) Doing much better. The last three days I have been able to drink my 8 glasses of fluids and eating much better.

NOW I know what restriction really is. Lost about 6-7 lbs the first week, now down 10lbs sents the 2nd fill for a total of 40 lbs down. Feels good to break into the 40's.

Doing better each day learning what Band is telling me.

I am Burbing a lot, but no vomiting. My nurse said it was called Productive Burbing. In most cases it's telling you the new poutch is full. Do different people explain it differently?

Finally feeling better about my newer fill.

Don

It's weird that I'm kinda stuck on a plateau :welldoneclap:

I usually lose a pound or two immediately after a fill, but it didn't work for my last 2 fills! Aaarrrgh....frustration.....I think I am going to start tracking my food and exercise (something I have been very resistent to doing).

My slow loss is making me kinda down and depressed...although my BMI was under 40 to begin with, I keep thinking I should be losing more then what I have. I know I don't have full restriction yet either. Now I'm kinda wishing I had the sleeve done instead of the band......it's always something, huh, lol.

Ok....I'm done whining.

No, don't have regrets yet. Once you get to the sweet spot it is great!

I do track everything I eat on www.sparkpeople.com. Lapband now has something that will do this too. I have heard people like thedailyplate.com as well. It really helps me see what I am doing and where to improve. Get another fill if you still have hunger less than 4 hours after eating and watch the difference between real hunger and head hunger. The craving went away once I took bread, Pasta, rice and potatoes out of my diet. It took a couple of weeks, but then what a difference!

Hang in there. Find the green zone. You can do it!

I have a question for you. Usually after a fill it doesn't start to kick in for about 10 days. This one is pretty obvious right away. What is your experience? I am happy to feel a difference right away, but in the same breath I am afraid I will get too tight in about 10 days since that is usually when I get the most benefit. What is your experience?

This is what happened to me.

The first fill was 3 cc's and did not really feel like I had a fill, but I still lost weight. The 2nd fill was 1 cc and that was the "tight" one. It was sooo tight that I felt like it was too tight, but called the nurse the next day, she told me that what I felt was normal. One week later it still felt like it was still TOO tight and called her again. She gave me some encouragement and still said I was doing just fine. Now about three weeks sence the 2nd fill I can see a very good improvement and am "ok" with it.

Wow, what a road traveled to get this far. I'm feeling again that this is all worth it.

Don

On day 4 of the 2 week liquid pre-op diet. Surgery scheduled for June 11th.
Soooo I am coming to a realization
of something and I'm not sure what to do about it. For years the only thing I've enjoyed is eating. We rarely do anything or go anywhere and if we do it always includes food. Family comes over? Big family dinner! Go camping? Food! Take a short ride or trip? Food! Holiday? Food! Go out of town for a Dr appointment? Food! When we go to a new town we don't look for any attractions, we look for restaurants we haven't been to. Heck, I look forward to getting off work because that means it's almost supper time. Now that I'm drinking these pre-op shakes for breakfast, lunch, and supper I have nothing to look forward to.  And once I have surgery on June 11th it'll be more of the same shakes. Even after pureed stage, soft food stage, and finally regular food stage, it's going to be a drastic change for the rest of my life. I'm giving up the one thing that really brings me joy. Eating. How do you cope with that? What do you do to fill that void? Wow. Now I'm sad.

Life as a big person had limited my life to what I knew I could manage to do each day. That was eat. I hadn't anything else to look forward to. So my eating choices were the best I could dream up. I planned the cooking in managable lots in my head and filled my day with and around it.

Now I have a whole new big, bigger, biggest, best days ever. I am out there with those skinny people doing stuff i could never have dreamt of. Food is now an after thought. It doesn't consume my day. I still enjoy the good home cooked food but I eat smaller portions. I leave food on my plate when I am full. I can no longer hear my mother's voice saying eat it all up, ther are starving children in Africa who would want that!

I still cook for family feasts, I love cooking. I still do holidays but I have changed from the All inclusive drinking and eating everything everyday kind to Self catering accommodation. This gives me the choice of cooking or eating out as I choose. I rarely drink anymore as I usually travel alone now and I feel I need to keep aware of my surroundings.

I don't know at what point my life expanded, was it when I lost 100 pounds? Was it when I left my walking stick at home ? Was it when I said yes to an outing instead of finding an excuse to stay home ? i look back at my last five years and wonder how loosing weight has made such a difference. Be ready to amaze yourself.

BTW, the liquid diet sucks, one more day and you are over the worst. You can do it.

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!
