Any October Bandsters!??!?!

Recommended Posts

I am amazed at how long this thread has gone on. I'm so glad we haven't given up on keeping up with each other. It really helps.

My weight loss has slowed considerably the last month or so, but I did hit 70 lbs lost. I'm attaching a before & current photo. Let's see if it works.

Everyone take good care of yourselves. I'm proud of all of us.

WOWSA!! Karen you look great!! COngrats on your loss!!

The fill center called me today, they want me to come for a complete UNFILL!! I am able to eat a little but they are arfraid i will get to the point where I can't eat or drink at all. Has anyone had this experience before, the thought of going for a COMPLETE UNFILL is frightening..I keep thinking the band will loosen up... will it?

Mollyjo - Thanks.

The unfill sounds like the best plan. I was worried when I read the troubles you were having - yikes. Be careful with yourself - we're supposed to come out of this healthier in the end!

Hey October Bandsters!

Just wanted to check in. I am glad to see everyone is doing well..I have lost about 43 lbs total..pre and post op. I have had three fills and now have much better restriction now..I think one more may be my "golden ticket".lol

It is still hard mentally to re think my eating habits but I am learning..I think that the slow process is actually a learning curve to wrap my brain around the entire lifestyle change.

Some days are harder than others but overall I am happy with my band

Karen - Great job. You look AWESOME.

MollyJo- If it were me I would ask about a partial unfil. Ask why they want a complete unfill. They might have a very reasonable and valid point.

Let us know how it goes. I've been worried about you too!

I went for a fill last Friday and my doctor had his staff take my pic. I'm not all that thrilled with it, but here it is.

Julie - you look great! What a difference. And Love - you are beautiful. Wow - that baby is going to be lucky to have such a beautiful mother.

My sister and I are going for fills tomorrow -- I'm taking the measuring tape so we can measure. Hope to have happy news to report!

I have a question for you. How much were you told to eat? 1/2cup? 1 cup? 1 1/2cup?

I know 3-4 oz of Protein then veggies, but have you been given a guideline?

Molly - We haven't heard from you. How are you doing?

My doctor asked us to describe what we were eating. I try to stay in the Proteins & veggies with some fruit. I have a fudgesicle every night (the 40 cal ones) and I usually have a drink (vodka - maybe an oz or 2 - no mixers) with my husband each night. He said that was fine (I was surprised) and suggested not portion size so much, but that we try to skip breadfast (I know - this goes against everything I've read or ever heard!) by sipping coffee. He said Soup for lunch and to have a piece of meat or fish and veg for dinner.< /p>

really? I was told to EAT Breakfast and avoid just "drinking" meals as it won't keep you full. every doctor is different I guess.

The pics are all great! Congrats ya'll!

I just had my 2nd fill and am happy I decided to--I was eating way too much and not losing even though I was exercising like crazy (for me).

Hi Folks,

Well last Thursday (03-12-09) They added one more CC of fill. I'm hoping it's NOT too tight now. I'm not eating or Drinking enough per day now and almost every bite hurts when I swallow. I'm lucky to drink 3-4 glasses of liquid per day and not much more than one to two cups of food. Today I did manage to eat 2 eggs with a little bit of cheese on it. Now I'm going to try to drink my V-8 fusion drink with my powered Vit/Min's added. If it does not stop hurting by Monday or at least hurt a LOT least I'll call up and talk to the nurse again.

WOW, what the last couple of days this has been. The plus side, I know it's too fast, but I have lost 6 lbs the last two days.

Does all this sound normal to you?? I talk to the nurse Friday and she sounded like I was doing ok, just take it slow and easy for awhile.

I'm just hanging there, doing my best.

Don

PS: I hope everyone else is doing just find.

Hi Julie Ann... I am doing better thanks for asking. I never did make it for the unfill, I think the band is finally giving a little and I am able to eat and drink enough to stay hydrated. I stopped eating or drinking after 8pm so the spitting up in my sleep has stopped. I am happy to report that in the 3 weeks I have lost 10 POUNDS!! it is starting to slow down a bit and I think that is to be expected. At least I can eat now!!

You guys are doing great I can't believe I am in the 180"sss!! :w00t: only 40 more pounds to go!!!

I am new here today... and only two weeks out from my sleeve surgery on the 23rd. I am amazed I have kept my calories down to 467 today so far... that leaves me almost 750 left for dinner and maybe a snack. This is going to be tough for two weeks... but I have to believe I can do it!

Hey everyone. I'm new here so I thought I should introduce myself. I am 53y/o and am scheduled for Gastric Bypass on June 25th, 2025. I'm located in San Antonio, Texas. I will be having my surgery in Tiajuana Mexico. I've wanted this for years, but I always had insurance where bariatric procedures were excluded. Finally I am able to afford to pay out of pocket.  I can't wait to get started, and I hope I'm prepared for the initial period of "hell". I know what I have signed up for, but I'm sure the good to come will out way the temporary period of discomfort and feelings of regret. I'd love to find people to talk to who have been through the same procedure or experience before. So I look forward to meeting you all. Hope you have a great week!

On day 4 of the 2 week liquid pre-op diet. Surgery scheduled for June 11th.
Soooo I am coming to a realization
of something and I'm not sure what to do about it. For years the only thing I've enjoyed is eating. We rarely do anything or go anywhere and if we do it always includes food. Family comes over? Big family dinner! Go camping? Food! Take a short ride or trip? Food! Holiday? Food! Go out of town for a Dr appointment? Food! When we go to a new town we don't look for any attractions, we look for restaurants we haven't been to. Heck, I look forward to getting off work because that means it's almost supper time. Now that I'm drinking these pre-op shakes for breakfast, lunch, and supper I have nothing to look forward to.  And once I have surgery on June 11th it'll be more of the same shakes. Even after pureed stage, soft food stage, and finally regular food stage, it's going to be a drastic change for the rest of my life. I'm giving up the one thing that really brings me joy. Eating. How do you cope with that? What do you do to fill that void? Wow. Now I'm sad.

I hope your surgery on Wednesday goes well. You will be able to do all sorts of new things as you find your new normal after surgery. I don't know this from experience yet, but I am seeing a lot of positive things from people who have had it done. Best of luck!

Life as a big person had limited my life to what I knew I could manage to do each day. That was eat. I hadn't anything else to look forward to. So my eating choices were the best I could dream up. I planned the cooking in managable lots in my head and filled my day with and around it.

Now I have a whole new big, bigger, biggest, best days ever. I am out there with those skinny people doing stuff i could never have dreamt of. Food is now an after thought. It doesn't consume my day. I still enjoy the good home cooked food but I eat smaller portions. I leave food on my plate when I am full. I can no longer hear my mother's voice saying eat it all up, ther are starving children in Africa who would want that!

I still cook for family feasts, I love cooking. I still do holidays but I have changed from the All inclusive drinking and eating everything everyday kind to Self catering accommodation. This gives me the choice of cooking or eating out as I choose. I rarely drink anymore as I usually travel alone now and I feel I need to keep aware of my surroundings.

I don't know at what point my life expanded, was it when I lost 100 pounds? Was it when I left my walking stick at home ? Was it when I said yes to an outing instead of finding an excuse to stay home ? i look back at my last five years and wonder how loosing weight has made such a difference. Be ready to amaze yourself.

BTW, the liquid diet sucks, one more day and you are over the worst. You can do it.
