Banded August 6, 2008 in Boston

Recommended Posts

Hello - Just wanted to introduce myself to the August board. I just had the band surgery this past Wednesday, August 6, at B&W Hospital in Boston. On the pre-op diet I lost 23 pounds and I am down 35 pounds total so far... but still have a long way to go.

I am doing OK but the incisions are still sore. There are six of them and the largest one is not in the best area. I am out of work for about another two weeks so I have plenty of time to heal.

Hi, just wanted to introduce myself to all you other August bandsters! I live in the UK and travelled to Belgium for my surgery on Aug 6th. Each day it gets better, but like many of you the large incision where the "port" is stitched is still quite painful, BUT I'm so glad I had it done!!! Best wishes to you all, Kath.

Hey everyone and Welcome!!

The reason your largest port is the sorest is because that is where a LOT of the more 'energetic' surgery gets done through....having seen a surgery done, I can understand why the port incision hurts the most! They pass the band through there and use that opening pretty much to place the port with their own two hands...well fingers!.

Hi Roheryn,

Thanks for those rather gory details......really glad I didn't read that before I went!!! Mind you, saying that, my surgeon did have very small hands which is some consulation I suppose!!!:whatchutalkingabout Kath.

Hi,

I had my band done on August 5th too (the 6th is my birthday) so it was my present to myself. My soreness is at the biggest incision too but just on certain movements and not all the time. I thought the biggest incision is where they put the band in and the port is lower down and not right under the incison. Does anyone else have thiers like this?

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
