Only 90 pounds to lose...How long did it take you?

Recommended Posts

Hey Everyone,

I'm due to have surgery in September, but I am curious what to expect. I'm only 90 pounds overweight with a BMI of 37%. Currently my weight is 218 and I'm 5'5. My goal is 130-140, which is where I was about 6 years ago. I just dont want my expectations to be unrealistic. People that I've talked to on here have 100+ lbs to lose, and I understand that the more you weight the faster your going to lose. I excercise 4-5 days a week....and I am hoping this will help the process. I would like to hear about your experiences, and how much you started off having to lose

Thanks

hi there... it sounds like we have the same body type. i'm 5'-4" and weighed 213 the day of my surgery. i'm now a little over 3 months post-op and i've lost 36 pounds. after my second fill, i feel a lot of restriction (maybe too much) and my weight loss has tapered off a bit. i'm giving myself 1 full year to lose the 80+ pounds. the slower it comes off the more likely you'll be able to keep it off!

Thank you so much for answering! You are the first person I've talked to that is my same boat. Did you workout, or how did you lose so fast? I am also giving myself 1 year to lose 80+ pounds....I am hoping to get pregnant next year, and thats my motivation! Good luck with you journey, and congrats on your success.

Lost 60lb the first year, 30 the second year, down to well within my healthy weight. But continued to lose another 10 after that.

in about 10months, i've lost 75lbs. i'm 5'1 & my starting weight, day of surgery was 200lbs.....i think it's totally feasible to lose 90lbs in a yr or so & with you working out already 4/5 days a wk, that will only jumpstart the process.

i will say, i doubt very likely i would have lost this weight w/out consistent exercise...i only lost 20lbs the first 3 months, and rather than get discouraged, i just up'd the workouts & became pretty obsessive about it and tracking/journaling my food. i have a few more lbs to go, but am enjoying myself more and more each day.

Hey everyone! I'm glad I read your threads! I've been trying to find people in the same situation as me. I was banded in January and so far I've lost 48 lbs. I started with a BMI of 37, 213lbs. Everyone looses weight differently. I was at a stable wt. for 2-3 weeks. I have to say that after my 3rd fill the wt. really came off. I've lost 10lbs in 2 weeks. As long as you stay active and have your fills every 6 wks or so, you shouldn't have a problem. I wouldn't say that it takes longer for lower BMI person, I hope to get to my goal of 125-130lbs by the end of the year. I think it's possible. Good luck!

I haven't been banded yet (june 1), and I'm now at 215 with pre-op liquid diet, 5-4. So also low BMI. My daughter was 265 at 5-9 when she was banded. She is still at 180 at 15 months, but a size 8 and going for plastic surgery next month. She was never about the numbers, only her clothes size because she is very large boned. She will drop some with plastic surgery but she is pretty close to maintenance. She'll know after plastic surgery if she feels she needs to lose anymore. Band is being unfilled for surgerry so she might gain a little during all of that.

I started at 237, goal is 140-150. So at 215, I'm at about 65 to goal.

Good luck to all

Trisha

I'm a guy, so it is probably different for me, but then again, it sounds about the same?

I have lost just over 50lbs in 5 months, and have 38 to go.

I work out lightly about 10-15 hours a week to lose about 2.5lbs, but if I don't work out, I only lose 1lb a week.

Lower bmi people tend to not lose as much weight, but tend to do better as a percentage of their total weight, so it is literally all relative.

I'm glad I found this thread. I'm about 80 lbs overweight. I don't have my surgery date yet as I need to loose about 8 more lbs before they will give me a date. It's the hardest 8 lbs ever and i can't figure out why. I guess these lbs just don't want to leave me. Ugh...

I am set for surgery on 7/2 and can't wait. I have a BMI of 35, weight is at 217, I am 5'6 and I want to get to 130. My sister was banded 4 years ago and has lost 85 lbs (her goal is 100) very slowly. She did not exercise for most of those years but the last 5 months she has exercised 4-5 days a week and has lost 25 lbs :w00t:

I plan on exercising . . .:blushing:

I also need to lose 85 lbs. and I would be more than happy if that happened within a year. I have not been banded yet and I'm still concerned my insurance wont cover it. I'm 230 lbs 5'7" with a BMI of 36.

I will be sending my packet of paperwork to the surgeon's office tomorrow, so hopefully I will get a consult and be eligible for the lap band surgery. I have been very thorough to dot all the I's and cross all the T's so hopefully this process wont take too long. Keep your fingers crossed for me

I am 5'7" and started with a BMI of about 37 also. It took me right at a year to reach goal and I'm hovering right around 147 or so.

You can see from my ticker I started off at a 37.7 BMI (248# and I'm 5' 8.75"). I set my goal at 90-100# and I gave myself 2 yrs. to do it. I lost about 5 pounds during the first 5 months of the pre-op diet. I've lost 40 more since the 6th month of my pre-op diet and I'm now 2 months post-op (15 more pre-op and now 25 post-op). So 45# total now and I don't have good restriction yet (had my 2nd fill). I know the weight loss will slow down eventually (I've lost 50# more times than I can count), but I'm OK with that...I just want it to stay off! I don't exercise enough consistently enough yet, so that will help you a lot.

I started at 191, i'm only 4'11".

I have a (first goal) of 120 which is 71 pounds to lose. (i would LOVE to get to 110, but i will see when i get closer)

I had surgery 3/3/09 and i am down 46 pounds.

Before and after surgery, i would occasionally walk, but NOTHING consistant!

I told myself after 20 pounds gone, i would start exercising, but i didn't.

I hit a plateau about 1 1/2 months ago and stayed there for 3 weeks!

I KNEW what needed to be done. i started going to curves. i'm losing great again.

I want to reach my goal by the end of this year (i'm hoping for my OMG goal of 110-115). I would REALLY like to reach it by my birthday that is at the end of October.

If i keep losing at the rate that i am going, i think i will get there by then.

Curious to see how you all are doing these days?....I started with a BMI of 36/ 5'4/ 211#...Surgery 11/18/09.

First fill Jan 12...They say I had 5cc? in the band already from surgery...but I felt no restriction and could finish a 6in Subway if I wanted. So that added .5cc's ..Now I don't really feel restricted but not hungry between meals like before. Started counting points(WW) this week. Next fill 2/1/10...my current weight is 194..Goal 135. Appreciate all the advise I can get...thanks

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞
