First fill..What do you guys think about the amount?

Recommended Posts

I know every dr. is different and fills vary in how many cc's the doc puts in. I had my first fill today. I have a large band (10cc) and my dr. put in a 5cc fill. I am not sure if I feel restriction yet or not. When I ate dinner a couple of hours after my fill, I did feel like I could once again tell when it was my last bite.

I was really surprised by the amount of the fill. Thought for sure he would try about 2cc's to begin with. Anyone else have that amount with the first fill?:)

I just had my first fill on Monday and they told me during surgery I had 6cc in my band. When she went to do the fill and pulled the Fluid out it was at 6.5cc, so she only gave me .5cc with the fill

lucky you gt to eat dinner after your fill...they put me on Water or tea for the day of the fill and today I was allowed to have 3 shakes, no food. Tomorrow I can have 2 shakes and one mushy meal if I can tolarate it, then a day with 2 shakes and regular food. I haven't been hungry, but I barely got through my morning shake I didn't even want my luch one today, so I went without and had 3/4 of one for dinner. I have the 10cc band, but like I said they put 6.5cc in during surgery, so now I am at 7cc after my fill.

I was on solids a week after surgery. My dr. has patients eat solids also the day of fills. No change in diet. I wish I knew how much he filled at the time of surgery. I just forgot to ask him today so I really don't know what I have at this time in my band.

Apples, I have a 10 cc band also and I got 4 cc's during my first fill, and then I get an additional cc every two weeks after that. I currently have 5 in my band. I see a nurse practitioner to have my fills done, and she's been banded for two years and she told me that she gives that much at the first fill because no one she knows has ever gotten to their "sweet spot" with that amount, and she wants us to get to our sweet spot as soon as possible.

Hi Apples, I am interested in what Gina just said. I agree with the fill nurse that patients need to get to their sweet spot as soon as possible so they don't get discouraged. I too have a 10cc band with no fill at the time of surgery. My first fill was 3.4 cc and I can pretty much eat anything. I have only lost a total of 1 lb. My next fill is Aug 20th and I can't wait. I think it is great that Gina's fill nurse has a band because she can relate to the frustration. I think in the future more doctor's will take this approach because the psychological component of all of this should not be underestimated. If you read the forums most people get discouraged when they don't lose weight. I think it is great that you had some fill put in during the surgery. Good luck and keep us posted.

Lessme....my surgeon hires all banded or soon to be banded staff. I think it is great. They always know what you are talking about and have great info to questions.

I am thinking that the fill I had yesterday is what I needed. I am back to feeling the way I did after and for a couple of weeks after surgery. I can tell when it's my last bite when I eat a meal. Just what the band is supposed to do. I love my band.

Isn't it funny that when you don't have hunger pangs, you don't think about food. The problem I was having was that b/4 my fill, I was so hungry that I would eat fast. Not a problem now.

Good luck to you and I hope we all hit our "sweet spot" soon. Won't that be nice?

Hi Apples, Thanks for the reply. Both of the nurses at my doctor's office are super skinny and young and have no idea of how hard it is to lose weight. I think that is great what you doctor does so they can relate first hand to what you are going through. I haven't really had that feeling of not being hungry at all except right after surgery. I am hoping with my next fill I will experience that. So right now you have 5 cc. in your band or more? I do understand that feeling of "this is the last bite." I love my band too even though I haven't lost much. This is kind of a hard situation to explain to my people that know. They continually ask me "how much weight have you lost?" It is kind of embarrassing. Have the people in your life been really supportive?

I think mine is a 10cc. I don't know how much was put in during the surgery, but on Tuesday I had 2cc put in.

According to my Dr., I've done so well on the weight loss that he didn't really think I needed a fill, but did a small one so I would continue to lose and not get discouraged.

I'm on liquids/softies for the rest of the week and then back to solids.

Yesterday I was starving, strangely, but today, not so much.

My question is, do you guys exercise on the days you're on liquids/softies, after a fill?

I go walking if the weather is nice or do 45 minutes to 1 hour on my wii fit if it is too hot or raining. The fill did not bother me and they didn't tell me not to so I didn't think about it till you asked.

Doc put in 5cc but also put some in at time of surgery. It just slipped my mind to ask how much when I had my last appt. My doc does not like to answer questions about how much goes in during fills. I think he doesn't want us to concentrate on the amount we get. I am sure he thinks our feeling of restriction is more important.

I got my fill last week. I felt restriction the next day and then nothing. On the fifth day after my fill, I felt more restriction and think that I am where I should be. No hunger 90% of the time. Loving it. Weight loss is where it should be with about 2lbs lose per week. Life is good.

My family is very supportive and knew that I had to do this surgery in order to live a healthy life. Friends is another story. I would say that 50% of my friends are very supportive and the other 50% take great pleasure in either being jealous and not understanding the process at all. I'm too busy with my new life to try to sit down (yet again) and explain the process. I usually just give them the name of a lap band web site so they can read up on it. I have a feeling most of them don't take the time.

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞
