What benefits have you experieince since being Banded?

Recommended Posts

I've only been banded since Jun 13, 2008 and I'm down 22lbs. I know that it doesnt' sound like a lot, but I have noticed a difference in my clothes and how they fit as well as how I feel. My husband was banded on June 6, 2008 and he's down almost 40lbs. He's not even working out, just going to work. I've noticed that when I hug him, we are so much closer together and his head has gotten smaller ! Seriously, he used to have a big head! I feel happier, maybe it's because the sex seems soo much better (I know TMI:)! I have so much more energy while I am at work, and when I'm at home playing with the kids. I want to play with them, not just send them to the game room to watch tv. Realizing that I will one day be soon will be one of those skinny bitches that I wanted to hit in the head with a baked potato (extra sour cream, bacon bits and cheese please  ) ROFLMAO!!!! But seriously, who would have ever thought that I would hear the words come out of my mouth that I wasn't hungry, or better yet that I forgot to eat because I wasn't hungry :confused2:. Now that is some crazy shit!

Just typing this, I feel like I am about to cry, because I am realizing that I took the first step in getting my life back. I used to hate getting up early in the morning, but I find myself getting up at 5am to make sure that I get my exercise in before I get the kids up and go to work :Banane34:. I find myself buying clothes sizes smaller now, knowing that I will eventually get into them. Not much smaller, but a size 16 to 14 vs. the 22 that I was wearing (I'm a 20 now). I feel like I am back in college, because I want to go out more and have drinks or go dancing. I still can't bring myself to buy shirts without a cap sleeve because I hate my arms, but I know that I will evenutally get there.

My initial goal was to go back to my college Homecoming which is the week of my birthday in October, but then I figured that I was doing it for a group of people that I haven't seen in over 10 years (am I giving away my age now:biggrin:). I'm just realizing that I love me so much more, not because I had the surgery, but because I am realizing that this is the person that I should be. Someone who values herself and no longer hides when someone wants to take a picture. I see myself in a different light now.

So ok, here it is...................

Better sex

Cuter and smaller clothes :huh2:

Closer hugs

Going out more and having fun:thumbup:

Being a skinny bitch :lol::thumbup:

Just loving me more

P.S. A shout to all of the ladies who are feeling me right now, because I know this is hard, but it will definitely be worth it (correction, we're worth it).

Congradulations to you and your hubby on being banded together and doing well so far. My wife and I were banded almost 11 months and we are doing great. Iam down from my high of 250 a year ago. My BP is in check. I do not seem to use the CPAP as much and the pressure levels are way down. I go for a study in Sept. Which will be a year since being banded. We are both able to do so much more on a daily basis. The wife is getting off her meds slowly. Keep up the good work. The weight will come off just fine.

I had my consultation last week with Dr. Paya in Glendale, CA. I got the financing in order I just now have to schedule my appointment. Before I shell out $16,000 I was hoping some of you could share your experience and maybe answer some questions.

1. I am not going to tell anyone that I work with and limit who I tell outside of the workplace. Is this possible? How much can you actually eat if you are out to lunch or at a dinner event? Can I drink a glass of wine?

2. Has anyone had this procedure done with a low BMI? If so, what is the typical weekly weight loss?

3. Has anyone used Dr. Paya? If so, how has your experience been?

THANKS!!

Iam feeling you jlg! I just took my one month pics today and cried at the side by sides. I was banded July 2nd and the difference in how I look made me cry. I lost 16 lbs and wow what a difference. My husband and I just starred at the pics in amazement in just ONE month. I can't wait till next month!! I have 5.5 cc's in a 10 cc band.

Janice, my BMI was 34? Not sure if that's how low you were thinking? Iam averaging 4lbs a wk. Iam exactly one month out and have lost 16 lbs. LOVING IT. Best decision I've made in a long time. Iam in MI so can't say that I know Dr. Paya. My goal is to lose 85 lbs total, that will put me at 135 lbs.

You can drink a glass of wine, just remember its empty calories but if that's your splurge here and there go for it.

We go out to eat every friday with friends to a local Coney Island. Yesterday I ordered grilled fish with tartar sauce and rice. I got 3 pieces of grilled fish (no breading) and ate 2 pieces of fish (approx 3-4 oz) and a quarter of the rice. I eat and chew chew chew so much that I do find I get done about the same time as everyone else. I also take a bite and put my fork down. No one else does that so that takes up time too.

I did tell some people but my family has NO idea about the surgery. When I say "my family" I mean my mom, sisters etc... My husband and kids know of course. I simply chose not to tell those I KNEW would be negative. Hope this helps.

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞
