Lap band done 5 months ago

Recommended Posts

:thumbup:Hello everyone,

I recently had lap band done in 2/08 in Abilene, Tx. I have currently lost 45lbs. I don't regret doing this for one minute. I believe that my biggest obstacle has been overcoming the mental hunger with negative reinforcement. I would very much like to visit with anyone who has had this done, I have some questions and basically I just want to know if what I am experiencing other people are too!

That would be great. I have another 70 lbs to go! The way I look at things I earned all the extra poundage myself and it will come off one pound at a time one emotion at a time. Being an emotional eater has not been kind to me, oh I would eat anytime I was a professional social eater!!! Now I am having to learn how to deal with my feelings and not bury under a pound of chocolate! So when did you have your banding done?

Wow 3 days ago! Sister I feel your discomfort. You will start to feel better after the first week, much much better after the second week. I didn't even know this site existed until one of my patient's told me about it. What state are you in? It's great that you have the support of your husband and family, otherwise it would be difficult. My husband and I talked and planned it over a year and I couldn't have done it without him. So many yo-yo diets in my past. I tell you what nothing feels better than to put on clothes that are too big that used to be too small! I will be praying for you and for a quick recovery. You too have begun a wonderful journey. Feel free to ask me any questions about the banding, I am only 5 months into it...but have some knowledge.

As for a special diet, not really. Here are foods that I have learned to avoid or eat a very small amount: bread, rice, chinese food, red meat, dry chicken- ouch:cursing:!!! cheese, Pasta, tortillas in small quantities. I really don't consume alot of sugar and definitely no carbonated beverages. I also do not drink for 30 minutes after I eat, nor do I drink liquids with meals. Now mexican food, chips/salsa...goes right down. It is important to get your Protein, so eat tuna, chicken salad, carnation instant Breakfast drinks, an egg...things like are usually ok. If your a big meat eater, those days are over:sad:. I'm from Texas we're big meat eaters!!! You will learn to enjoy tuna like you never have before- yummy yummy. Pretty soon this will be old hat and you will know your body's likes and dislikes....it's really not so bad. I joke with my husband that I'm a bolemic in training!!! That's really not funny, but that's what it feels like sometimes. Just listen to your body, follow your dietary instructions and don't become discouraged because the payoff is huge:thumbup:. Talk to you soon daisy.

Hello ladies,

I just had to comment on the bulimic in training comment. I had to laugh out loud. Ever since my last fill (back in March) if I am not super careful that if what I feel like. I've really had to slow down and sometimes it still... well you know.

As far as being an emotional eater, I'm there with ya... as most (not all) heavy people are I think. I've actually looked into "Positive Changes"-to help me get my head right. I have a pattern of self destructive behavior that has to stop. I don't think positive changes is for me. I would do it if I had an extra 2700 dollars to throw around but I don't want it because the band isn't working. - this is kind of what the lady there insinuated- I just want to fix my head. Does that make sense?

Anyway- Congrats on 45 lbs lost and to the newly banded... WELCOME!!

Take care girls!!

~Martina

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

So proud of you Cat. Getting into those smaller size clothes is half the fun isn't it?. Keep up the good work!!!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞

I may have to have gall bladder surgery during my weight loss surgery. Not thrilled about it either but do not want 2 recovery times. Just want it over with.

Thanks for your post. I may need to rethink my decision... :(
