Do We Ever Come To A Place That We Don't Need A Fill?

I'm soon to be banded and was just curious if we will always have to have a fill or once you lose all the weight do you stop getting them?

TIA

I haven't had or needed an adjustment/fill in at least 4 - 5 months.

My first fill did not do much of anything for me, I was still very hungry. However, my second fill was dead on. It happened April 29th and I have not sought another fill since and I am really not sure when I will need another.

My doctor said that once you are in maintenance mode, you will probably just come in for a yearly fill tweak or just review to make sure you feel good where you are fill wise.

I'm really talking about a year or more out. Let's say that I've reached my goal weight and I'm maintaining it. Would I stop getting fills or will I get those no matter what.

I guess I'm saying I would like to one day not have to keep having them. I would like to find a happy medium that keeps me from having to have fills.

Does that make sense?

If you're doing maintance you will not be getting fills. If you are continuing to lose after your goal and you don't wish too you will want to get a slight unfill till you're comfortable with the amount you can eat to maintain.

Sometimes you may need to go in and have the fill refreshed as it seems to lose a slight amount over time.

Let me put this in a different way. You only -need- a fill if you -want- one. The reason for a fill is to help you lose weight. Follow me?

So, let's say in a year from now... You're still happy with your weight. Don't get a fill.

Let's say in a year from now you gained some weight, and you want to lose it... But you wan't to do it on your own. Don't get a fill.

If on the other hand (and this is where being a bandster comes in handy), in a year from now you gained some weight and tried to lose it on your own, and need some 'help', go get a fill... You'll lose the weight, and be happy again.

It's all up to you, honestly.

I've been at my goal weight for > 4 months. Sometimes I gain some weight, I just watch what I eat a bit more carefully.. have some more salads, etc. The weight comes right off. No problems.

I keep on myself though. I won't let it get out of hand, ever. I get on the scale every single morning. Sometimes even at night. I'm not obsessed, just making sure I don't get back to what i was. If that scale reads #'s > 5lb lost... I immediately rectify. Anything else is generally just flucation. I might have a lighter Breakfast the next morning and that pound or two comes right off.

I don't feel that you need to get a fill, just because you can technically eat more.. Know what I mean? I feel after a year of being banded, you just sort of know when to stop. I use my judgment over my band at this point, for the most part.

I don't think I've 'used' my band in quite some time now.

Refreshed is a good word. That's all you'd ever need. I've been "refreshed" once in the last 18 months or so. My last real fill was 18 months ago. In fact I just had a little bit out a few weeks back because I'm cautiously trying to reach a spot where I maintain my weight but can eat the widest variety possible - for the sake of fuelling myself for running and for my long term health.

There's no advantage to eating a tiny amount long term if you can eat more and still maintain, nutrition wise.

So no, you dont need "fills" but you'll continue to need the moderation of the band. I'm pretty sure were I unfilled totally I'd gain weight!

Focus, it's nice to see another man on here. Got banded a week ago, I see you have done great, just wondering how many fills you had? Where was your sweet spot? Did you leave it at the sweet spot or de-fill when you reached target?

The advice of a veteran of the wars very appreciated.
