Did you tell people that you were having the lap band inserted?

I am still in 2 minds about whether I want people to know (other than my husband and my parents)

I don't want to be put under extra pressure. If people know then I guess they would be at me to know how much I have lost (or not lost) each time they saw me. I give myself enough stress, I don't need the extra help- iykwim

If you haven't told anyone, how did you go about getting time off work? My issue is I am about to start a new job in 2 weeks and I would feel awful if I straight away had to ask for time off.

What did you do?

I wasn't going to tell anyone bar 2 friends who have had it. Now, I find out I need about $3000.00 out of pocket after health insurance and may have to ask my parents who just lost $7000.00 in the stock crash so not sure what to do!

Thanks Roheryn, it is great after a year's waiting. Though, have to tack on that extra week, so its still over a month - but only just over!!

Sorry justagirl, no real answer for you. I guess if you can't organise a bank loan for that amount, then sit your parents down and have a serious discussion with them about the medical benefits of the operation. Let them know this money is an investment in your health and your future.
