Just had my consultation and now have to jump through all the hoops for insurance. Hopefully I will be able to have surgery in October. Seems like a long time...

Hi kerrik, I am jumping through hoops right now too! I can't even schedule my consultation until my primary writes my referral. Sooo I'm waiting on that, then I can jump through more hoops! I am also hoping for an Oct. band date, but my insurance may make me do a supervised diet (they don't always require it, but they said since I am under 50 they might want me to ). I just keep telling myself that things happen when and if they are supposed to happen. So please keep us posted on how your hoop jumping goes. I'll keep my fingers crossed for you to have a quick approval and as few hoops as possible!

good luck to you. i just recently finished all my hoops and am awaiting the response/approval from my insurance and them my surgery date. the insurance carrier determines the hoops you must jump thru so to speak. i was lucky enough to be able to do most of my requirements by taking one day off from work and scheduling all i could. i am medical insurance biller. if you have any questions or problems feel free to contact me.

Hi I am Karen. I am new to this sight and have been jumping hoops for about six months. I am having to do the 6 month weight loss appt. with my doctor. I would love to get an idea of what my notes should look like that my doctor sends to the insurance. Neither of us are clear on that. By the way, have you got a surgery date yet?

I have just started my medically supervised weight loss. My insurance requires 3 months. I meet with my Dr. next week. He told me to just keep a food journal. I had to do that for the first 2 weeks. I am not sure what he will say next week. I meet with the nutritionist next week and have an appointment for my psych eval on July 31st. I don't have a date set yet. It sounds like you are close!

hi karen! i am robyn.i am hoping to get my date on tuesday the 22nd. my hoops were support group meetings, nutritionist, nuclear stress test, glucose tolerance test, many lab test (took 11 vials of blood ) and a psych eval. i would have already been done but another medical issue popped up and i need to have surgery which put me a bit behind. i did not have to keep a journal or have a six month weight loss period but doctors differ in there own regiment for lack of a better word. i have blue cross for my insurance- they require medical documentation that shows my current health and chronic conditions that would benefit from the surgery. i did have to prove that i have tried unsucessful to diet with little or no improvement- i had my own documentation showing weight watchers ediets tops as weel as purchased excerise equipment and books etc. my doctor had a form that all i had to do was check off what i had tried and give the dates. i believe that form will be sent to the insurance carrier.

each insurance carrier varies and within the insurace carrier- there are different types of plans and each one the plans can vary. there is no black and white- insurance is kind of a gray . i would recomennd that you contact your insurance carrier and speak to a benefit specialist- give them CPT code your surgeon will bill( you can get this from his/her office) and verify that the procedure is covered and if it is see if the insurance carrier with give you a list of their requirements to make sure all your ts are crossed and is dotted :)

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞

I may have to have gall bladder surgery during my weight loss surgery. Not thrilled about it either but do not want 2 recovery times. Just want it over with.

Thanks for your post. I may need to rethink my decision... :(
