Banded Yesterday-OMG do I hurt

Recommended Posts

***I noticed that you recently had the lapband done. I am worried about the post op care. I have a 2 year old, and worried due to reading some of the posts that the pain is really bad? Any suggestions? Thanks

Angie NC

Angie,

I was banded 6 months ago with a 2 year old and 4 year old. They stayed with my dad for a couple of days while I recovered. I was sore and my husband was here with me. It was not terrible but it was my 1st surgery so I don't know how to compare it to something else. I just did not pick the kids up or let them crawl all over me for a few days. As far as the gas pain....walk...walk....walk.

Good luck, you can do this.

Hey there, Jacksonville AR. here. I see that you used Dr. Luttrell? I did go to one of his seminars, but have decided to go with Dr. WEllborn. He did a WLS reversal for me many years ago and I feel safe with him.

I talked to his office just today and I think that I will be in for surgery before the end of the month. Im so excited.

One question,,,,,,would you do it again?

Hey Angie!

Well, pain is a funny thing. Some people don't have that much pain and others, like me, have a lot. So you really don't know how your body is going to react.

I do have a couple of suggestions though. First off, if you have a good friend or family memeber that could help you with your 2 year old for a few days, it would be a big help. You never know if you are going to be in pain, so I think its better to just kind of prepare ahead of time.

Also, when you get your band the most painful thing for most people is the gas! The best way to fix this is to walk! I mean really walk. It doesn't have to be outside up hill--I mean indoor in the kitchen for 10 min, or sometimes I even did 30+ min, to try to help move the gas. Gas-X sometimes can help, but this gas is upper cavity so not always. The chewable gax-x is always worth investing in though. Also, heating pads. If you put them on your shoulder it helped a lot with the pain.

Another thing is food. It's important to eat food, even though you won't feel like it, because it helps move the gas out. Also do not mix your Protein shakes. I found that they gave me gas, because the blender caused air bubbles. Instead i used Atkins pre-made shakes (Strawberry is bland, Dutch Choclate is better than Milk chocolate).

So there are a few tips. I hope it helps. You will do great!!!!

Let me know if you have any more questions.

My son was 3 (I was stay at home dad) and I was running a lawn service part time. Never really had a problem with gas but I walked like a mad man. I was super sore for about two days-after that I was back to daddy duty and work. I would have a twinge of pain here and there (mainly in my port) for a couple weeks but nothing debilitating. BTW, I have now lost 90 pounds!

Well, here I am one year later (tomorrow). I have lost almost 130 pounds! I must admit I have not worked out-at all :cursing:. However, I have a pretty physical job and I swim and play baseball and what not with the kids. Im 6'1" and started at 410 pounds. Im down to 282! I get hung up on the numbers sometimes though. I wear a size 38 pants (was wearin a 52 last year!) but still weigh 282?! Go figure! :tongue2: Best wishes to all of you!

That is just wonderful!! I'm getting ready to go see my PCP to get things started and I'm so nervous! But reading your posts is getting my motivation level back up! I see where this tool has taken so many and I long to get there. I'm ready to get back to the person I was 10 years ago, before the babies lol! I'm ready for people to see me for ME and not any outside appearances. Anyway, keep it up NoRoutePlanned. Your an inspiration!

Hi, everyone, I was banded on the 11th, so I've been home for one week now (they kept me 2 nights) and I have to say the pain gets better each day:thumbup:. I can actually roll over in bed without gasping! So just hang in there. I am also on liquids but my doc wants me to be doing lots of Protein Drinks too which helps with the hunger. Are you sure you can't have them? It really helps alot.:smile2:

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
