Sorry but you cant say its "ok" to cheat w/ liquids but not solids . cheating is cheating . If you call and ask your doc if its ok to move the diet and he says ok then that's one thing.

for instance my doc told me IF I NEEDED TO because of my Migraines I COULD start the first week w/ Full liquids instaed of clears. But i tried it w/ clears and I was fine so i did not adjust anything.

But you cant say "I think to some degree you can "cheat""

NOT FOLLOWING DOCTORS ORDERS IS NOT FOLLOWING Doctors orders. You said yourself your doc is a center of excellence . Do you think it got that way by accident ? Seriously ? Or do you think it got that way becaue the System they have in place WORKS ? Not by cheating on liquids a few days early . Thicker Liquids churn your stomach more than Clear Liquids thats why docs do not want you drinking FULL Liquids straight out of surgery !!

Sorry but that's just my opinion . You either follow orders or you dont . its not a half ass thing in my opinion .

Mindy

I think it's so wonderful that we have not one, but two MD's on this thread... (You two know who you are) You're both skilled surgeons, so we are SO lucky and blessed to have them grace us with their words of wisdom!!! With all of their combined surgical experience under their belts, how can you not listen to them???

Ebeth, and everyone else: If you have true medical questions and you are concerned for your band, then you should be contacting your doctor as well. Posting on this site is great and can be helpful, but nobody on this post is an MD... please keep that in mind...

Also it does not have anything to do w/ having an MD or not . it has to do w/ those who have more experience .

I am not sure why that is so wrong ? why is it not ok or wrong for some of us who are further down the rd to give advice, our experience to those who are just starting out on this road ?

Im sorry but i would and did WANT that from people.

I dont want someone to tell me what i want to hear I want them to tell me what I NEED to hear , i dont want them to tell me what i want to hear if im doing something that could possibly harm me ? HOW THE HELL DOES THAT DO ANYONE ANY GOOD ? I do not get why that is being HOSTILE , ugly , rude, anything but HELPFUL . If we all sat back , folder our arms and said NOTHING OMG do you know what would happen ? we would get " WHY DIDNT YA"LL TELL US ? Why would you not TELL SOmeoen not to do that ?

Seriously ? dont come here asking , looking seeking advice and get pissed cause you dont like what you hear !!!!

Are you aware that we are suggesting people (gasp) follow their MDs advice?

The horror of it all!

Amazingly, it does not take medical school to grasp a bit of common sense. Following your MDs advice is not the evil you make it out to be.

Honest.

The basic thing I don't understand is that people are willing to risk the pain and cost of unsuccessful surgery for the little bit of gratification eating too soon will bring you. Do you think that anyone who suffers a slip and has to be rebanded or just lose the band would think it was all worth it, because they got a hamburger a week early?

So maybe you didn't follow your doctor's advice and you were fine. First of all, how long have you been banded? If it's only a couple months, you don't know you are fine yet. And if you have been banded over a year and haven't slipped, well, lucky you. I've said this before: I've done some stupid things in my life that maybe should have killed me, but didn't. That doesn't mean I would suggest to anyone else that they do what I did. Why would you want to encourage dangerous behavior in others?

Ok Elizabeth I just wanted to say look how much you have lost already. It is very hard, I know I am 6 days post op and sick of the liquids. Keep visiting this site, it really does help. We are all in the same boat, we have all gone to this extreme because if we could have done it by ourselves we would have. This is a wonderful tool that we have. Hang in there down 32lbs :w00t: thats great I bet you are feeling better when you put that pair of pants on. Stay Strong

Sounds as if no amount of advice will be the right amount of advice :-)

Snowbird...

Careful with the common sense advise! If you keep posting that people should follow their doc's advice you'll be accused of being a doc-wannbe! ;o)

Are you aware that I was also telling Ebeth that she should call her doctor?

Oh, its so not evil!!!

Why would I give my opinion telling someone to call their doctor but expect them not to listen or follow doctors orders. If you re-read what I wrote you would see that. I am all for listening to your doctor and following orders! I am not a rule breaker and have following my post-op diet to the letter!!! That's the only way to ensure success!!!

I think you just like to oppose and argue BubbleButt... I feel sorry for you actually... I would hate to go through life like that.

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞

Iʻm roughly 6 weeks post-op this morning and have begun to feel like a normal human, with a normal human body again. I started introducing solid foods and pill forms of medications/supplements a couple of weeks ago and it's really amazing to eat meals with my family again, despite the fact that my portions are so much smaller than theirs.
I live on the island of Oʻahu and spend a lot of time in the water- for exercise, for play,  and for spiritual & mental health. The day I had my month out appointment with my surgeon, I packed all my gear in my truck, anticipating his permission to get back in the ocean. The minute I walked out of that hospital I drove straight to the shore and got in that water. Hallelujah! My appointment was at 10 am. I didn't get home until after 5 pm.
I'm down 31 pounds since the day of surgery and 47 since my pre-op diet began, with that typical week long stall occurring at three weeks. I'm really starting to see some changes lately- some of my clothing is too big, some fits again. The most drastic changes I notice however are in my face. I've also noticed my endurance and flexibility increasing. I was really starting to be held up physically, and I'm so grateful that I'm seeing that turn around in such short order.
My general disposition lately is hopeful and motivated. The only thing that bugs me on a daily basis still is the way those supplements make my house smell. So stink! But I just bought a smell proof bag online that other people use to put their pot in. My house doesn't stink anymore.

Oh yeah, something I wanted to rant about, a billing dispute that cropped up 3 months ago.
Surgery was in August of 2023. A bill shows up for over $7,000 in January. WTF? I asks myself. I know that I jumped through all of the insurance hoops and verified this and triple checked that, as did the surgeon's office. All was set, and I paid all of the known costs before surgery.
A looong story short, is that an assistant surgeon that was in the process of accepting money from my insurance company touched me while I was under anesthesia. That is what the bill was for. But hey, guess what? Some federal legislation was enacted last year to help patients out when they cannot consent to being touched by someone out of their insurance network. These types of bills fall under something called, "surprise billing," and you don't have to put up with it.
      https://www.cms.gov/nosurprises
I had to make a lot of phone calls to both the surgeon's office and the insurance company and explain my rights and what the maximum out of pocket costs were that I could be liable for. Also had to remind them that it isn't my place to be taking care of all of this and that I was going to escalate things if they could not play nice with one another.
Quick ending is that I don't have to pay that $7,000+. Advocate, advocate, advocate for yourself no matter how long it takes and learn more about this law if you are ever hit with a surprise bill.
