Who's Getting Banded in August???

Recommended Posts

Greetings, I was banded 8-5. I am struggling with this website and how it works - apparently this too will be part of my "New Life" and how to manage being able to talk with others who understand. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Am brand new to this web site and dont know how all this works. I was banded 8-5. Physically I am feeling okay now that the horrible gas pains have passed but am still an emotional train wreck. I have yet to get a "full feeling" after eating.

I was told once that if you over eat with the band you will vomit because you can't stretch your pouch. Is this correct?

If someone would be so kind as to give me guidance with the website and share their eating experiences I would be very greatful.

Thanks again.

Congrats on your new band! You can vomit if what your eating gets stuck. I would probably start a new tread for that question since all of us are still on liquids, mushy's or waiting to be banded in the next two weeks.

But, we can definitely help out in giving some support! How much Protein are you getting in a day.

I was banded on the 4th and so far am doing awesome!

I had my first post-op appt yesterday and it was well, the surgeon is letting me go back to work on Monday. Good thing as I tend to go a little crazy sitting around doing nothing!

I'm down approx 15 lbs from leaving the hospital and was cleared for light exercise this week and anything I want next week. So last night I was off and walking! Did 30 minutes of Cardio walking... (my poor bassett hound was with me) and will do the same today. Next week I'm starting the couch to 5 k and hope to run my first 5K this fall!!! I can't believe how excited I am!!!:)

Hi band sisters, well i just did it. I was banded 8/13/08 at 10am by dr rantis at the kane center. It was a breeze. Don't get me wrong. I know i had surgery - i feel it, but nothing like i though it would be. I spent one night in the hospital and asked for pain med's, mostly to ward off any pain the day of surgery. The next morning i was walking a marthon around the nurses station - 11 times at once. I did that maybe four times, it helps get the gas out - both ways. I stayed on the clear liquid diet the day i came home and just started on full liquids. I had 4oz ensure high Protein with no problem. So far so good. I'll keep you posted. Goodbody out

Hi to all my soon to be new thin bandster's!! I just got banded on 8/13/08 and everything went well, PRAISE GOD! I see a lot of weight loss ticker's that show weight loss pre op and i'm jut assuming that's because some of you were on a liquid diet prior to your surgery? I would like to know how much weight loss for those of you that have been banded for a few weeks now? I know it's bonus weight but, it's still weight coming off

and very motivating to read the success stories! I'm thrilled that i've taken charge of my life and that i found this wonderful support group! Many blessings and looking forward to getting to know and share this journey!

Hi, Jenecye!

I haven't weighed since before I was banned last Friday, I trying to hold off until I see Dr. Villares next Friday. I think it will be fun to see after two week period. I am doing three Protein Shakes a day, cream Soup and some sf Jello. I haven't actually totalled out the calories. But I am so full it is hard to get in my three shakes. It great to find people so close to home to share experiences with.

Hello Jenecye! Congrats on your band! I'm only 9 days post op, but I can report my weight loss. I lost 9 pounds on the pre-op diet and have lost another 9 since surgery for a total of 18. I'm sure it will slow down once I go on mushies...but it's nice to see the numbers go down . I'm glad you asked the question. It will be encouraging to hear how everyone is doing!

Here's to ALL of us!!!

Thanks to all who responded so quickly!!

In the information packets i received from my doctor's office they advised NOT to stress on weight loss during recovery period but, it's still nice to know that some of us are losing as we're starting out on this journey and it does help to know that i may be down another 1lb today when i go to eat my SF jell-o or my Tomato soup! I can't wait for my first adjustment...i'm sooo skipping ahead but, enjoying this moment as well for reflection and how i got here, where i'm headed, and how i'm going to get to goal...Can i get a Amen and Hallelujiah!! ..LOL!

On day 4 of the 2 week liquid pre-op diet. Surgery scheduled for June 11th.
Soooo I am coming to a realization
of something and I'm not sure what to do about it. For years the only thing I've enjoyed is eating. We rarely do anything or go anywhere and if we do it always includes food. Family comes over? Big family dinner! Go camping? Food! Take a short ride or trip? Food! Holiday? Food! Go out of town for a Dr appointment? Food! When we go to a new town we don't look for any attractions, we look for restaurants we haven't been to. Heck, I look forward to getting off work because that means it's almost supper time. Now that I'm drinking these pre-op shakes for breakfast, lunch, and supper I have nothing to look forward to.  And once I have surgery on June 11th it'll be more of the same shakes. Even after pureed stage, soft food stage, and finally regular food stage, it's going to be a drastic change for the rest of my life. I'm giving up the one thing that really brings me joy. Eating. How do you cope with that? What do you do to fill that void? Wow. Now I'm sad.

Life as a big person had limited my life to what I knew I could manage to do each day. That was eat. I hadn't anything else to look forward to. So my eating choices were the best I could dream up. I planned the cooking in managable lots in my head and filled my day with and around it.

Now I have a whole new big, bigger, biggest, best days ever. I am out there with those skinny people doing stuff i could never have dreamt of. Food is now an after thought. It doesn't consume my day. I still enjoy the good home cooked food but I eat smaller portions. I leave food on my plate when I am full. I can no longer hear my mother's voice saying eat it all up, ther are starving children in Africa who would want that!

I still cook for family feasts, I love cooking. I still do holidays but I have changed from the All inclusive drinking and eating everything everyday kind to Self catering accommodation. This gives me the choice of cooking or eating out as I choose. I rarely drink anymore as I usually travel alone now and I feel I need to keep aware of my surroundings.

I don't know at what point my life expanded, was it when I lost 100 pounds? Was it when I left my walking stick at home ? Was it when I said yes to an outing instead of finding an excuse to stay home ? i look back at my last five years and wonder how loosing weight has made such a difference. Be ready to amaze yourself.

BTW, the liquid diet sucks, one more day and you are over the worst. You can do it.

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!
