What to ask before signing up with surgeon

Does anyone have a list of questions to ask at the first meeting? I know some of them but not all...

-How often do will you schedule fills

-How soon can you schedule surgery

-Do you have a limit on how much you fill each time (just read about someone who can only get 1 cc at a time from her surgeon)

Still I would like a comprehensive list. Just don't know where to find it

Thanks, first visit is on Tuesday:tt2:

I would also ask the following:

  • success rate/mortality rate
  • pre-op diet required?
  • type of band they use
  • how much does the band hold
  • how soon do they do first fill?
  • type of support their office offers (do they have a support group, do they mind calls about your questions, etc.)

More importantly, I would see what kind of rapport you develop with the surgeon and his staff. It is really important that you be able to comfortably talk with them about your concerns.

Good luck!

AuntLucy's list was great, but one other thing I would check on depends whether you're self-pay or not. I was self-pay and I wanted to know what would happened if the banded slipped or the port flipped, how would I pay for it? My doctor assured me that they would take care of it, that was a big relief to me.

Oh, one other thing - are fills included in the surgery cost or how much are they?
