Kathy - the 6mph is only for 1 minute with about 2 minutes or so of walking in between. 2 or 3 times.

If I can do that, why can't I run longer at a slower speed?

I figure the short-fast intervals will eventually build my lungs so I can run longer-slower intervals.

Sugar...you will eventually build up. It took me a long time, but it finally happened. As long as you are burning calories and keep at it, that's all that matters.

Well guys...if I EVER decided to take another 2 month vacation from running, someone please kick my butt!! I feel like I'm starting over. I did a 1.6 mile run/walk today. I went from being able to run for 45 minutes straight, to 4 or 5 minutes....I could just kick myself for taking off for so long. I know I will build back up eventually but I'm just soooo mad at myself!

I don't think I'll be much competition for the nike+ challenge, but maybe it will keep me motivated.

Georgia - With me in the race, you won't be in dead last. LOL

You will probably build back up quickly. Don't kick your self to bad. Just keep it up!

LOL Sugar....I hope I build back up fast. Don't be so sure about me not coming in dead last...if ya'll saw how bad I was huffing and puffing today, you'd understand.

So, we are starting Monday right?

I am probably the only one that does not have a Nike +

Our computer crashed a few weeks ago and took itunes with it. I have no way of downloading tunes. So I am stuck with what I have. Just some random songs. Ughh..

Mine came! I was upset yesterday because all the books came but not it.

But the calibrate is going to be hard. How the heck do I know how long .25 miles is?

Sugar... keep at it and you will eventually accomplish the distance. I know it took me a really long time to get from 10 to 20 min. I kept getting discouraged and some days just gave up. All I can say is your body does eventually get there. I know for me its not my muscles, its my breathing. I find the first 5-10 min is the absolute hardest. Once I'm through 10 min, I'm generally good to go unless I mess with my speed. If I can talk myself through the breathing in the beginning, then I can usually go the distance I want to.

Georgia... Aren't you glad you got back at it! LOL, just to feel the pain! I'm sure your recovery will be quick.

Lyn... OMG, what aim! LOL, I think I would have just died if it was me. But if I was there, I probably would have peed myself for laughing so hard!!!

Ok I'm all set for our challenge! I'm a competitive person, even when I don't have a hope in hell of winning! LOL. We're all saying we'll each be in last place... so here's a thought... let's compete for last! But the rules are we still have to actually run. We can't be last due to lack of running, we can only be last if we actually try to run our best! What a concept!

I got my Nike+! I haven't calibrated it. Or gone up to the web site.

Mac...do you have access to a treadmill? It would probably be best to calibrate it on the treadmill, that way you can set a constant pace and know exactly how far you've gone.

Darn, I need to get a nike+, I want to be in the challenge too. I thought I would order one, but it hasn't happened yet. I might call around town and see if anybody has one, that would be faster.

Lyn~ your story is hilarious - sounds like something I would do! You probably scared the poor man to death!

Georgia~ I hear you. I had to take two weeks off and thought I was going to die when I started back up! Just keep at it, you will come back faster than you think!

I had a 25min run today and it went pretty well. The breathing is always the hardest. If I focus on breathing the hills don't seem so bad. Phew!

I recalibrated my Nike+ tonight and it seems to be more accurate. I had a really great run tonight. I had planned to do only 1 mile, but my DH ran first and he did 2.8 miles in 30 min. So I started and thought, no I'm just going to do my mile. But after the mile I was feeling really good, so I kept going. Then after 2 I still felt good, so I kept going. I ended up doing 2.85 miles (had to beat my DH LOL). It took me longer, but still felt really good! This Nike+ is really helping to motivate me. I also think I'm over my issues with the treadmill. Good thing cause the weather ain't getting any better!

I figured that out eventually. :tt2: That means it won't be calibrated until Monday. (Gym is at work.)

But that's okay. It arrived in the mail AFTER I did my "run" so it's not like calibrating it would be any use to me.

A running buddy of mine called today and asked if I would do a 5 mile run with her in the morning. OMGosh!! She will be at my house at 7:15 in the morning. She said we could walk/run. We are running outside. I hope I can hang!!

Renewed... hope your run went well!

I just finished an outside run! Yeah!!! I ran 3.3 miles and it felt great! I even beat my DH again. The sidewalks were really icy so I ran on the road for the most part, until I got to a busy city street, but that was just a short distance. It was so windy at the start, but then I got used to it and it felt so good. I think I'm going to get the hang on winter running!

According to my Nike+ I've run 22.6 km since Dec 26th. I'm pretty happy with that!

Four days post surgery. I am sipping as fast as I can and getting NO WHERE near the goal of 60 - 80 grams of protein or the 64 oz of liquids. I just feel FULL. I don't know if it can still be the gas build up (I would think by now that would be gone) but it is a struggle to drink. And so far I have not had the nausea or spasms and don't want to wander into that territory by pushing too hard with liquids. I about passed out today as it was my most "strenuous" day. Went from second story to basement for shower and I was sure I was going to pass out. Looking back on my last few days I have had a total of less than 1000 calories. Am I just not getting enough nourishment in me? Once again a friday where I can't get ahold of the doc until Monday rolls back around so I am hoping maybe someone here has some experience on how to keep energy going. I do have fibromyalgia too and that may be where some added fatigue comes into play. How did you all fair with the goals the week after surgery?

2 days until I fly out to San Diego to have my Bypass Surg. in Tiajuana Mexico. Not gonna lie, the nerves are starting to surface. I don't fear the surgery itself, or the fact that I'm traveling alone, but its the aftermath that I'm stressing about the most, after this 8 week wait. I'm excited to finally be here, but I am really dreading the post surgical chapter. I know its going to be tough, real tough and I think I'm just in my head to much now that the day i here. Wish me luck, Hopefully I'm one of the lucky ones, and everything goes smoothly. Cant wait to give an exciting update,. If there is anyone else have a June bypass or even a recent one, Id love to have someone to compare war stories with. Also, anyone near San Antonio Tx? See ya soon with the future me. 💜

I'm in Houston so kind of near you and had the sleeve in Dec. Down 61 lbs. Feeling better. Was definitely worth it. I hope the everything is going well for you. Update us when you can!

I am back home after my bypass surgery in Tiajuana. I'm post op day 4. Everything went great! I guess I'm one of the lucky ones who have not encountered much pain at all, no nausea thus far and I'm having no problem keeping down broths and water. Thank you for your well wishes. I cant wait to keep up this journey and have a chance at better health and simply better quality of life. I know there will be bumps in the road ahead, and everything won't be peaches and cream, but at least I have a great start so far. 😍

I am new here today... and only two weeks out from my sleeve surgery on the 23rd. I am amazed I have kept my calories down to 467 today so far... that leaves me almost 750 left for dinner and maybe a snack. This is going to be tough for two weeks... but I have to believe I can do it!

Hey everyone. I'm new here so I thought I should introduce myself. I am 53y/o and am scheduled for Gastric Bypass on June 25th, 2025. I'm located in San Antonio, Texas. I will be having my surgery in Tiajuana Mexico. I've wanted this for years, but I always had insurance where bariatric procedures were excluded. Finally I am able to afford to pay out of pocket.  I can't wait to get started, and I hope I'm prepared for the initial period of "hell". I know what I have signed up for, but I'm sure the good to come will out way the temporary period of discomfort and feelings of regret. I'd love to find people to talk to who have been through the same procedure or experience before. So I look forward to meeting you all. Hope you have a great week!

I'm so happy for you! You are about to change your life. I was so glad to get the sleeve done in Dec. I didn't have feelings of regret overall. And I'm down almost 60 lbs. I do feel a little sad at restaurants. I can barely eat half a kid's meal. I get adults meals often because kid ones don't have the same offerings at times. Then I feel obligated to eat on that until it's gone and that can be days. So the restaurant thing isn't great for me. All the rest is fine by me! I love feeling full with very little. I do wish I could drink when eating. And will sip at the end. Just a strong habit to stop. But I'm working on it! You will do fine! Just keep focused on your desire to be different. Not better or worse. But different. I am happy both ways but my low back doesn't like me that heavy. So I listened (also my feet!). LOL! Update us on your journey! I'm not far from you. I'm in Houston. Good luck and I hope it all goes smoothly! Would love to see pics of the town you go to for this. I've never been there. Neat you will be traveling for this! Enjoy the journey. Take it one day at a time. Sometimes a few hours at a time. Follow all recommendations as best you can. 💗

Thank you so much for your well wishes. I am hoping that everything goes easy for me as well. We don't eat out much as it is, so it wont be too bad in that department. Thankfully. Also, I hear you regarding your back and feet!! I'd like to add knees to the list. Killing me as we speak! I'm only 5' so the weight has to go. Too short to carry all this weight. Menopause really did a doosey on me. (😶lol) My daughter also lives in Houston. with her Husband and my 5 grand-littles. I grew up in Beaumont, so I know Houston well, I will be sure to keep in touch and update you on my journey. I may need some advice in the future, or just motivation. Thank You so much for reaching out, I was hoping to connect with someone in the community. I really appreciate it. 💜
