I really do wish they would tell you the difference between 'this is going make your stomach bleed or *list terrible consequence here*' and 'it won't hurt you but xy&z isn't really healthy or has empty calories in it so moderation is expected.'

Amen to that.

My surgeon says to avoid caffeine for the four weeks after surgery because it can irritate the stomach.

There are a couple of reasons it's not a good idea. The amount of tanic acid in black tea is enough to cause me days worth of heartburn trouble. It is more acidic than stomach acid, and it is corrosive. We need to be especially aware of that. coffee has tannin, too, but not quite as much. Yerba Mate is through the roof with tannin. Seriously, I don't know how folks keep it down! This result has nothing to do with caffeine, though.

Both tea and coffee, iced or hot, also are very diuretic agents, and that does have something to do with caffeine. I know, I know. It is killing me. I don't know how I am going to do it!

Wow this is news to me, the Dr and Nutritioist never said I could not have my morning coffee. I even told the Nutritionist how much I drink and he never said a word about it. I have had it almost every morning since the surgery..

HMMM.

I am 2 days post op and dying for a glass of iced tea. Something tickles my memorie about caffiene being a no no either before or after surgery, but I can't remember which. Can anyone help me out here? Thanks

At the center I go to, caffeine products are a big no-no for gastric banding patients. Caffeine is not encouraged for their Band patients either. Their reasoning for Band patients is that caffeine stimulates your appetite. I do not know if there is scientific data to back up that theory.

For gastric patients, the acidic contents of the caffeine is not good for the stomach and the absorption issues associated to it. The medical field is not my profession, so this is what I learned from the bariatric center I attend.

Anyway, I have always been up front with my doctor. I do coffee and my doctor knows I have coffee. Yep, every morning I have to have my java. I feel sorry for the person who runs across my path prior to my having my cup of Joe in the morning.

As a treat, I go to Starbucks and have a skinny latte. It hits the spot and has Protein. But for the most part, I brew my coffee at home and only drink it in the morning.

Has anybody tried one of these from Starbucks?

vanilla Rooibos Tea Latte Full leaf African rooibos tea(naturally caffiene free), also known as red tea, paired with Tahitian vanilla and cinnamon. Sweetened with classic Syrup and topped with steamed milk and velvety foam.

OHHHH so good!!!! I'm a "no sweetener" person so I got mine without the syrup but it was still really good to me!

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
