Not that I particularly love low carb, but there is no denying that is works better for me than anything I have ever done. Therefore, low carb lifestyle will probably be my friend until goal.

Felicia, everything seems to go full cirlce.

It boils down to eat healthy, be healthy. There are so many different ways to do it, and we can make it sooo difficult. Really it is not.

Unless you don't have restriction! :) But I know mines coming, maybe five fills from now, but it's coming!

I haven't been carb free at all during my weight loss journey. I found myself getting nauseous at the gym if I don't have carbs to get me through the cardio. I love the Kashi Cereals. I put splenda on them. People, we NEED fiber. Eating completely carb free does not allow enough fiber in our diets. It's all about which carbs you eat. It's perfectly good to eat some fruit and whole grain cereal.

There are plenty of studies that say that not enough fiber in our diets causes colon cancer. Kashi cereals are good because they are high fiber and unlike other cereals, they do have protein.

Hi everyone!

I was banded on May 13, 2008. I had my first fill on June 23 and after the first week with the fill the scale stopped moving. I am due for my second one on Monday July 21. I also suffer from PCOS, I was diagnosed 17 years ago when I was 15, so I have all of the classic attributes from it! Diabetes, high blood pressure, irregular menstrual cycles, infertility, and weight gain. I have never tried a high protein, low carb diet aka Atkins plan, so I may need some advise from some experienced people!

I plan on starting next week after I get my fill. My doctor has me do 2 days of clear liquids and then 2 days of full liquids/soft foods before advancing back to regular diet. After my last fill I attempted scrambled eggs and that did not set well with me at all, I took 2 bites and I was running to the bathroom, I have been scared to try them since.

Can someone please explain how to calculate a net carb?

Thanks in advance for all of your help!!!!!

:)

welcome Tigerlili. You will get lots of advice and support here. i wish you the best.

Denise, i have struggled on and off with constipation since my carbs have been so restricted. I bought some Kashi cereal tonight. I bought the one with the lowest calories and carbs. I can't wait to eat a bowl for breakfast in the morning. I think I will even cut up a couple of strawberries in it!!

Good evening Everyone!

Hope you all had a great day low carbing.

Here is the daily dish:

B: 2 scrambled eggs with 2 tbsp of cream cheese and 1 tbsp of butter. This was really good and different.

S: 2 slices of Swiss Cheese and handful of almonds

L: Chicken Salad with celery

S: 24 almonds and 4 strawberries with 2 packs of splenda

D: Summer squash and Turkey Keilbasa

S: Nutrisystem Caramel popcorn & 1 tbsp of peanut butter.

I did my 1 hour class of Burn Baby Burn water aerobics tonight. I am feeling it too! I only got in 2 hours this week too busy. I hate when I can't make it.

Well signing off for tonight...happy low carbing.

Cindy

hey all,

happy to report, down two more pounds!

I love the Kashi Crunch and the one called Good Friends. I read somewhere that putting cinnamon revs up the metabolism. I mix the

two cereals together and add the cinnamon and splenda and I love it.

I have never tried the Kashi cereals ... the one time I picked up a box at the store to read the nutrition label, I was completely turned off by the amount of carbs! I really do need to get more fiber in though ...

Kiki - way to go on 2 more pounds!

tigerlili - welcome and good luck!

Holly - I love seeing your posts on what you eat. Yum!

Everyone - you are are right! The scale is moving down this week. Last weeks visit from aunt flo had me discouraged as heck, but I stuck with it. I'm down 3.5 pounds since Monday!

I've been reading everyones discussions on adding some carbs back in. OMG does some cereal sound good. I think that cereal was probably one of my favorite things pre band. I had it almost every morning and usually more every evening before bed! BAD BAD GIRL! hahah I didn't have just one serving either, I had a big ol bowl full! Anyways.... I don't think I am quite ready to start adding that in yet. I'd like to get rid of some more weight first.

well looks like I will be going back to induction phase of low carb diet. I have been going back and forth between trace and NO ketosis. I have no idea what happened. I did add pork rinds and some low carb creamy salsa but still kept carbs below 30 all week. I also added some mixed nuts but still kept carbs low. I did nothing else different. Maybe there was some hidden sugars in there somewhere. I have no idea..I threw it out after 3 pound gain. I was hoping those three pounds were a fluke and would be gone in a couple of days but I am still struggling to lose them.

When my granola mother earth vegan sister was here from california she left 3 boxes of cereal here...all kashi cereals. I would really love to have a bowl but it wouldn't do much for ketosis. I am going to keep them around though until I found out how renewed is doing on her adding of the carbs!

OK so I was at the store bright & early this morning, hadn't had my Atkins shake for breakfast yet, saw the Kashi Go Lean Crunch! cereal and decided to buy it (despite the fact that the carb count scares me ). Came home and had 1/2 C of it w/ 1/4 C fat free milk ... it gave me 4g fiber (but a whopping 22g carbs ) ... I get the same amount of fiber and alot less carbs from my shakes! I admit it's good cereal, but don't think it'll be on my daily menu. I've been on a "losing streak" the past few mornings so hopefully the scale will continue being nice to me tomorrow

Hope ya'll have a great weekend!

Thanks everyone for the warm welcoming! I am looking forward to starting low carb eating!

Thanks Bloo for the the link, that made it nice and simple!

Hope everyone has a good weekend! I will be enjoying my last couple of days of carbs!

Hi Everyone... some of your names look familiar, so I thought I would respond! My husband and I have been eating low carb for about 6 years... fell off a few times, but overall, generally try to watch carbs closely. I do agree that one thing that gets missed is the fiber intake when you are eating low carb.... fiber is essential... you need both soluable and insoluable fiber for a multitude of health reasons. In my opinion you need 35-40 grams per day of fiber... but I think most doctors recommend 25 at least. The Kashi Go Lean Original cereal does have 20 net carbs per 1 cup serving, but 10 grams of fiber and 13 grams of protein as well.... that is almost unheard of with any food you can eat. That is why I start my day off with it.... I am not yet restricted too much... just got 3ccs in my VG band today (first fill) and still don't have too much restriction... but am really trying to eat about 60-70 grams of protein and 35 grams of fiber... that is tough! But tuna or canned meats are way high and spinach is good too... it's about 75-80% fiber.... 2 cups of shredded fresh spinach has about 10 grams of fiber.... eat that with some canned chicken on it and some slivered almonds with some low carb dressing.... and you get a lot of nutrition out of it. Spinach is so good for you and is pretty band friendly, unlike salad.... it chews down very well. Chewing on coconut meat, dried is best... the large unsweetened flakes gives you tons of fiber as well and is so good for you in many ways as well if you can chew it down good enough. Just thought I would share some things.... can't wait to hear more from you and share more as well.
