Low Carb Banders Unite

Recommended Posts

Cindy

congrats on the weightloss! Thats great that you didn't need the fill and you and your doctor were wise enough to KNOW that! Since I am not banded I always think "What if he fills it too tight???" I have read posts about some people not even be able to get their own saliva down!!! Whats up with that????

You have been doing great with your low-carb diet. Even better is that you went to McD's and got a salad! Now THAT is committment!

Kiki -- Welcome , I'm pretty new here myself. There's loads of info and support! Please stick around! And congrats on your success!

Denise -- The caramel nut chews are in the snack/treat category. I haven't tried any of the Atkins Protein Bars, yet. I'll have to try the nougat for sure, thanks! I, too, have a problem with Constipation. As a matter of fact, I've not been quite right since being banded May 9th. But it definitely worse since I began low carb. I tried some Miralax today, so I'm playing the waiting game for now. I mixed shook it to death in a bottle of Diet Green Tea and it dissolved into nothing! (Which is great because I have a huge texture-phobia and the slightest hint of grain on my tongue would have had me heaving!) Sure hope this stuff works. That could drop off a pound or two!

Renewed -- the nutritional content I gave you earlier for the Caramel nut chews are a bit different from the box i just picked up at Walmart. And the price was MUCH cheaper. The one I ate earlier was sold as a single at CVS and almost twice the cost per bar. Maybe the pack I just bought is the new revised version? The calories are a bit lower, everything else a bit higher, net carbs are the same. Go figure.

Moderate ketosis!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!:lol::tt1::tt1::tt1::tt1::tt1:

I am back!!!! I wasn't going to check until morning, but it amazing how the cravings just go away when ketosis starts. I kinda felt like I was there, because suddenly this isn't so hard anymore!!!!

WOOHOO!!!!!!:wink2::w00t::tt2::w00t::w00t::w00t::lol::w00t::lol::w00t:

Ok, I'll calm down now.

CALM DOWN WOMAN!!! Just kidding!:biggrin::angry:

You are doing awesome! You are right though. When ketosis kicks in the cravings go away, but once you cheat...watch out!

I like the Atkins bars (both snack and protein) but I really love the low carb EAS bars. They seem a lot more filling to me and for some reason I eat them a little slower. I like the pnut butter ones and the brownie ones. You gotta really watch out though ladies...ALWAYS check the carb content. Just because its high in Protein doesnt mean its low in carbs. There are not near as many low carb bars as there are high protein/high carb bars. Just a little advice.

Congrats on the ketosis, Renewed.

I haven't purchased any stix yet, I think I'll have my hubby swing by the store tonight. I'm sure after yesterday, I'm not in any kind of ketosis. But I'm going to start monitoring.

But i would like to report that today was an excellent day. I stayed on plan. Didn't snack on any of my kids' food, I didn't even smell it closely.

B: McD's sausage patty and scrambled egg.

S: Atkins caramel nut chew (hmm mm good! Thanks mama!)

L: 10 buffalo wings, ranch, celery sticks

S: Atkins chocolate Protein Shake and 10 almonds

D: Low Carb Slim Fast and 2 deviled eggs.< /span>

Probably not enough real food, but I've been ripping and running all day! Everything I ate was on the go! But I did not use that as an excuse today! Thanks for the suggestions, guys! Water parking again, tomorrow!

Bonnie , you are too funny. I tend to get a little excited from time to time.

MSnika, I have really found that the ketone sticks help me stay motivated. When I am in ketosis, I really think hard before I eat something I shouldn't. I am somewhat, ok a lot, obsessed with the little sticks. I love knowing that I am burning fat!!!

Congrats, Renewed, on getting back into ketosis! It makes things so much easier.

I'm finally started to feel human again after my surgery. WOOT! I had my postop appt on Wed. and the doctor said everything looked good. I got my stitches out and finally got to see my scars. Not as bad as I thought they'd be!

I did check a ketostix just to see what what going on. I'm in heavy ketosis, which I'm thrilled about. Obviously, it's because I haven't eaten food in over 2 weeks, but I know how much it's going to help me when I do move on to solids (and even pureed) to make good choices in what I pick to eat. No rice and mashed potatoes for me. eggs and creamy Soups with meat.

Hope everyone is doing great!

You are so right, Bonnie! I noticed that today while I was in CVS reading the content of EVERY bar on the shelf. I'm putting the EAS bars on my taste test list!

By the way, I tried the Atkins shakes today. I definitely drink them much slower than the Slim Fast. They are not near as sweet, but the consistency did seem to be the same to me. I didn't enjoy the chocolate goodness of the Atkins as much as my Slim Fast, so I guess that's why I didn't chug it!

I have never seen the EAS Protein bars. I usually go to Walmart for all my shopping. I will look for them. That is so true that most protein barsare high carb.

I have never tested with the ketone strips. I have been doing Atkins on and off since the 1970's and never tried them. I have no idea why I never bothered to do that!

I doubt if I am in Ketosis though. I eat Kashi Cereal every morning before I go to the gym. I feel nauseous doing cardio without some carbs. (Those are the only carbs I will eat generally though.) Plus I want some Fiber in my diet!

Denise, One of the things I love about ketone sticks is that I can add some healthy carbs as long as I am in ketosis. For example, I have found that I can eat a few strawberries at supper without going out of ketosis. This is the main reason I do them. I can vary my diet and be sure that I am still burning fat.

BTW, I am in between moderdate and large amounts of ketones this morning!!

There are only 2 kinds at my Walmart of the EAS bars, they are a few shelves up from EAS shakes (that are impossible for them to keep in stock!) They also have them at CVS but they are more expensive there...but a great deal if get them on sale as CVS so watch for sales!

As far as Ketostix, I too am obsessed. Although I usually repeat a lot of my meals day after day (I am okay with redundancy) I still check my stix in the morning. Last night I ate a handful of mixed nuts before bed. I was mad at myself for doing that because I already had to eat dinner at 9pm. I don't really like to eat before bed anymore. I had to get up and make sure I was still in ketosis...which I was. That makes me want to keep going---just like renewed said. I hope I will eventually stop using them and just know that I am, but not for now!

Welcome! I also recvd my band on 6/24. I have lost 13.5 and it is getting easier for me. I am not sure when my first fill will be, but I am gad gas finally started moving for me because I spent a lot of sleepless nights with gas in my front and back. Benefiber came to the rescue though. I wish you much success!

I am new here today... and only two weeks out from my sleeve surgery on the 23rd. I am amazed I have kept my calories down to 467 today so far... that leaves me almost 750 left for dinner and maybe a snack. This is going to be tough for two weeks... but I have to believe I can do it!

Hey everyone. I'm new here so I thought I should introduce myself. I am 53y/o and am scheduled for Gastric Bypass on June 25th, 2025. I'm located in San Antonio, Texas. I will be having my surgery in Tiajuana Mexico. I've wanted this for years, but I always had insurance where bariatric procedures were excluded. Finally I am able to afford to pay out of pocket.  I can't wait to get started, and I hope I'm prepared for the initial period of "hell". I know what I have signed up for, but I'm sure the good to come will out way the temporary period of discomfort and feelings of regret. I'd love to find people to talk to who have been through the same procedure or experience before. So I look forward to meeting you all. Hope you have a great week!

I'm so happy for you! You are about to change your life. I was so glad to get the sleeve done in Dec. I didn't have feelings of regret overall. And I'm down almost 60 lbs. I do feel a little sad at restaurants. I can barely eat half a kid's meal. I get adults meals often because kid ones don't have the same offerings at times. Then I feel obligated to eat on that until it's gone and that can be days. So the restaurant thing isn't great for me. All the rest is fine by me! I love feeling full with very little. I do wish I could drink when eating. And will sip at the end. Just a strong habit to stop. But I'm working on it! You will do fine! Just keep focused on your desire to be different. Not better or worse. But different. I am happy both ways but my low back doesn't like me that heavy. So I listened (also my feet!). LOL! Update us on your journey! I'm not far from you. I'm in Houston. Good luck and I hope it all goes smoothly! Would love to see pics of the town you go to for this. I've never been there. Neat you will be traveling for this! Enjoy the journey. Take it one day at a time. Sometimes a few hours at a time. Follow all recommendations as best you can. 💗

Thank you so much for your well wishes. I am hoping that everything goes easy for me as well. We don't eat out much as it is, so it wont be too bad in that department. Thankfully. Also, I hear you regarding your back and feet!! I'd like to add knees to the list. Killing me as we speak! I'm only 5' so the weight has to go. Too short to carry all this weight. Menopause really did a doosey on me. (😶lol) My daughter also lives in Houston. with her Husband and my 5 grand-littles. I grew up in Beaumont, so I know Houston well, I will be sure to keep in touch and update you on my journey. I may need some advice in the future, or just motivation. Thank You so much for reaching out, I was hoping to connect with someone in the community. I really appreciate it. 💜

On day 4 of the 2 week liquid pre-op diet. Surgery scheduled for June 11th.
Soooo I am coming to a realization
of something and I'm not sure what to do about it. For years the only thing I've enjoyed is eating. We rarely do anything or go anywhere and if we do it always includes food. Family comes over? Big family dinner! Go camping? Food! Take a short ride or trip? Food! Holiday? Food! Go out of town for a Dr appointment? Food! When we go to a new town we don't look for any attractions, we look for restaurants we haven't been to. Heck, I look forward to getting off work because that means it's almost supper time. Now that I'm drinking these pre-op shakes for breakfast, lunch, and supper I have nothing to look forward to.  And once I have surgery on June 11th it'll be more of the same shakes. Even after pureed stage, soft food stage, and finally regular food stage, it's going to be a drastic change for the rest of my life. I'm giving up the one thing that really brings me joy. Eating. How do you cope with that? What do you do to fill that void? Wow. Now I'm sad.

I hope your surgery on Wednesday goes well. You will be able to do all sorts of new things as you find your new normal after surgery. I don't know this from experience yet, but I am seeing a lot of positive things from people who have had it done. Best of luck!

Life as a big person had limited my life to what I knew I could manage to do each day. That was eat. I hadn't anything else to look forward to. So my eating choices were the best I could dream up. I planned the cooking in managable lots in my head and filled my day with and around it.

Now I have a whole new big, bigger, biggest, best days ever. I am out there with those skinny people doing stuff i could never have dreamt of. Food is now an after thought. It doesn't consume my day. I still enjoy the good home cooked food but I eat smaller portions. I leave food on my plate when I am full. I can no longer hear my mother's voice saying eat it all up, ther are starving children in Africa who would want that!

I still cook for family feasts, I love cooking. I still do holidays but I have changed from the All inclusive drinking and eating everything everyday kind to Self catering accommodation. This gives me the choice of cooking or eating out as I choose. I rarely drink anymore as I usually travel alone now and I feel I need to keep aware of my surroundings.

I don't know at what point my life expanded, was it when I lost 100 pounds? Was it when I left my walking stick at home ? Was it when I said yes to an outing instead of finding an excuse to stay home ? i look back at my last five years and wonder how loosing weight has made such a difference. Be ready to amaze yourself.

BTW, the liquid diet sucks, one more day and you are over the worst. You can do it.
