Hello there,

I am new to the forum and wanted to introduce myself.

I live in Halifax... just moved here, lived in San Francisco, Seattle, Vancouver and Interior BC before. Long story. Moved six times in eight years and felt the need to settle down after I had a little boy in Vancouver. Halifax is the right city for us...affordable, down to earth and very friendly people... and closer to home. I am actually from Germany.

My plan is to have the lap band surgery done in Toronto. Have no date set yet, but had a consultation appointment at two clinics beginning of May. Both made a good impression and I think both would do a good job. It boils down to who has the "better" after care and can help me find a fill doctor or nurse in NS. Well, and one seems 2000 bucks cheaper.

At least 100 pounds need to go... The doctor aimed more at 130, but I would be happy with 80. Seems a long way, but I lost 75 in nine months about six years ago (came back in 9 months too, with the baby :( ). So I am not really that scared. I hope the band is going to help.

If anybody can help me find a support group in the Halifax area, I would certainly appreciate that.

Tschüssi

Hi Katya,

I'm also in Halifax, just moved here as well, a couple months ago.

For aftercare sake, I'd go with Dr. Cobourn (or the SWLC, rather). They've got someone in Pictou (which is still a good distance away, but not too bad) to do fills for us, and hopefully will get someone in Halifax soon. Honestly, that's the only 'aftercare' I've had from them, besides the odd email or phone call. If I ever need anything I can call or email, and hear back fairly soon, and that's the best you can hope for, living so far from your clinic, I guess.

There's some kind of 'bariatric' support group around here, but I've never gone, so I can't help you with that. I'm sure the lady who organizes it comes around here and will post soon.

Hi Mandi,

wow you seem to do pretty well with your band! Congratulations!

Dr. Cobourn told me at the consultation, that the clinic just trained a doctor IN Halifax to do fills. I don't have a name, but he said so beginning of May.

Oh wow, that will be nice. I'm actually completely empty right now, so no fills or defills needed, but that's good to know that if in the future I have to, it'll be alot closer! Plus hopefully it'll give that Dr. lots of time to practice on other people... I don't want to be a guinea pig!

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

So proud of you Cat. Getting into those smaller size clothes is half the fun isn't it?. Keep up the good work!!!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞

I may have to have gall bladder surgery during my weight loss surgery. Not thrilled about it either but do not want 2 recovery times. Just want it over with.

Thanks for your post. I may need to rethink my decision... :(
