Encouragement - Low BMIs pls share

Recommended Posts

Hi, I am getting discouraged and would like to hear from some other people with low starting BMIs and read about their progression.

I was banded 2 weeks ago. I did pre-op diet for 1 week, losing 6 lbs. Now at 2 weeks out, I have only lost another 2 lbs. I know this is the "time for healing" etc, but reading all these posts about people losing giant amounts of weight post-op is discouraging me. I don't think I am eating too much. I just started mushies. I am hungry but finding things "on plan" that I can eat. I haven't been counting calories, as I know I am not consuming many.

Thanks....

Hi Stef,

I too had a BMI of 34.5. My surgury was 4-24-08, I weighed in at 236, 5.9 ft & have lost between 16-20 lbs. If fluctuates. I've not had a fill yet. I do not count calories either however, I exercise some and try and watch what I eat. As I've read all over this site, any weight loss before a fill is a plus. I think you and I should keep reading here and get inspiration from the others.

Hi there,

While this site can be very helpful at times, it can also be very discouraging at others. Unfortunately, our bodies are not one size fits all regarding weight loss. I myself have only lost 63 pounds in 14 months and have been discouraged for a long time. The only thing you can do is get fills on a regular basis and keep up with the exercise. It can be very frustrating when you read all of the rapid weight loss success stories on here only to struggle with weight loss yourself. Best advice I can give is do your best and try not to compare your weight loss to others because I know from experience how frustrating it can be.

Take care,

Shannon

i had a BMI of 35 and i was banded 04/21/08 weighing in at 213 pounds with a height of 5'-4". i was on a 2 week liquid diet and didn't really lose much weight. after my surgery i lost 14 pounds. after my first fill i gained 2 pounds back immediately. i just feel so hungry all the time... worse than i felt before my first fill. so i'm going for fill #2 this weekend. i lost those 2 pounds on top of 4 more so i'm down 19 pounds in approximately 45 days.

its still going to be a struggle even though we have low BMI's... maybe even harder. don't get discouraged. you're just entering Bandster Hell when you have the surgery and don't lose much weight. you may not lose much at all until after a couple of fills.

stay strong!

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

So proud of you Cat. Getting into those smaller size clothes is half the fun isn't it?. Keep up the good work!!!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞

I may have to have gall bladder surgery during my weight loss surgery. Not thrilled about it either but do not want 2 recovery times. Just want it over with.

Thanks for your post. I may need to rethink my decision... :(
