2 Months & Still Strugglng

Recommended Posts

Hi Everyone.

I was banded on April 4, 2008 by Dr. Spivak. All was good for the first 3 weeks....i lost 15lbs but have been struggling ever since. I went for the first fill...and that didnt work so I went back a week later and he filled it with some thicker stuff. Although that has helped some....I still have a hard time. I am able to eat more than they say I should be eating. My weight loss has slowed down tremendously and I get discouraged too.

I am going to try my best to start walking some each day and hopefully this will help. Being a single mom of three can somtimes be very stressful but I will not be defeated again. Anyone with suggesstons would be greatly appreciated.

Wanda

hii. i too, have come to a halt. i was banded march 13th. things were great that first month. i've had 2 fills thus far..but nothing. i just started weight watchers last week and did pretty good. lost 5lbs in a week..so that could be a suggestion. i just keep track of the points..dont do the meetings or pay for it ya kno. but then i got my period and that went out the window..but now that its over i'm gettin right back on track,,started today..so hoping i lose another 5 this week. also, do try the walking. i walk 5-6 times a week for 45 minutes. at first i really had to force myself to go, but now i love it, i feel great afterwards and really look forward to it. i like looking at peoples houses..thats a good motivator. well hope i helped and good luck to you!! take care

xoxo

Wanda- I think you have to patient with your body. I know, you made your decision to lose the weight, had the surgery and now... nothing. Really though, your body has been through a lot of trauma and it too needs to adjust to your new way of life. Hold on and be tuff, look how fat you've come.

Hi wlh08,

Have you been keeping track of your calorie intake? If so, how much are you allowing yourself per day? Walking is a great start. I know it's hard to get up and go, just don't allow yourself to make any excuses. Just get up and go. The fill will also help, if you are always hungry.

No I have not been tracking my food intake which is something I will start doing! As I look back I must have thought the band was going to be some type of miracle cure and I would automatically become skinny...well reality is finally sinking in! This website along with you guys has helped me face the fact......I have to take charge of my decisions and actions! I have to make some changes or I will never win this battle!! Thanks Guys!!!!

I think Im in the same boat - had surgery early April not down too much - can pretty much eat what I want if I chew slow - I think we all have to listen to wha other people say - it may take like 4, 5 or 6 fills to get it right - but when it works it WORKS! I know I have no paitence & I want it all NOW - but sometimes we have to wait a little for the grand prize at the end. Dont be discouraged Wanda - it will work out for all of us!! Good luck!

You need to be patience. You are doing great for 2 months! My question for you is what kind of thicker stuff? I have never heard of that before and to tell you the truth it sounds scary. What is your doctor putting into your band that could leak out into your system?

Ask that he stays with saline and just puts in more. I hate to think that some doctors are using silicone, that's scary stuff.

The thicker stuff is called omnipaque (spelling). It is exacty like saline but thicker for small leaks. My doctor uses it all the time on me. It is not dangerous.

Thank you so much for the responses. I haven't had much time to be on the computer lately but it is so nice to come on and have the support waiting for you. Can't get my fill until next week due to work issues but I am so ready to get back on track! Thanks again everyone for taking the time to care!

On day 4 of the 2 week liquid pre-op diet. Surgery scheduled for June 11th.
Soooo I am coming to a realization
of something and I'm not sure what to do about it. For years the only thing I've enjoyed is eating. We rarely do anything or go anywhere and if we do it always includes food. Family comes over? Big family dinner! Go camping? Food! Take a short ride or trip? Food! Holiday? Food! Go out of town for a Dr appointment? Food! When we go to a new town we don't look for any attractions, we look for restaurants we haven't been to. Heck, I look forward to getting off work because that means it's almost supper time. Now that I'm drinking these pre-op shakes for breakfast, lunch, and supper I have nothing to look forward to.  And once I have surgery on June 11th it'll be more of the same shakes. Even after pureed stage, soft food stage, and finally regular food stage, it's going to be a drastic change for the rest of my life. I'm giving up the one thing that really brings me joy. Eating. How do you cope with that? What do you do to fill that void? Wow. Now I'm sad.

Life as a big person had limited my life to what I knew I could manage to do each day. That was eat. I hadn't anything else to look forward to. So my eating choices were the best I could dream up. I planned the cooking in managable lots in my head and filled my day with and around it.

Now I have a whole new big, bigger, biggest, best days ever. I am out there with those skinny people doing stuff i could never have dreamt of. Food is now an after thought. It doesn't consume my day. I still enjoy the good home cooked food but I eat smaller portions. I leave food on my plate when I am full. I can no longer hear my mother's voice saying eat it all up, ther are starving children in Africa who would want that!

I still cook for family feasts, I love cooking. I still do holidays but I have changed from the All inclusive drinking and eating everything everyday kind to Self catering accommodation. This gives me the choice of cooking or eating out as I choose. I rarely drink anymore as I usually travel alone now and I feel I need to keep aware of my surroundings.

I don't know at what point my life expanded, was it when I lost 100 pounds? Was it when I left my walking stick at home ? Was it when I said yes to an outing instead of finding an excuse to stay home ? i look back at my last five years and wonder how loosing weight has made such a difference. Be ready to amaze yourself.

BTW, the liquid diet sucks, one more day and you are over the worst. You can do it.

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!
