I have stayed at the Excalibur and it is on the end of the strip--lots of walking would be involved (not such a bad thing....) It is a huge hotel with many restaurants and activity.

I have also stayed at the Barbary Coast (goes by another name now) and that is centrally located. The rooms are nice, but there is nothing there but the casino. We'd have to go elsewhere to eat.

I'd want to share a room. I have my CPAP, so no snoring.

I will have to check airline prices--right now--no specials so very $$.

No promises, but trying.....

Well I totally made over my life. I followed the 'rules' to the T, kept up with my fills and after care, I started a workout program. I didn't look at the lap band as the solution I looked at it as a tool. I went to support groups, I looked to this website as support, I gave up most 'white foods', ate high Protein (one of the rules) etc. I did lose about that much the first 6 mos and lost 126 lbs in one year. For the first 6 weeks my dr didn't want me to focus on weight loss however, that was for healing. Good luck to you. If you want to post more details like what kind of exercise you are doing, what your daily menu looks like, etc. you will get lots of help and suggestions here. Best of luck to you!

JBand, I agree with Great -- I consistently lost 2 lbs. every week -- I was on liquid shakes the two weeks before surgery and again followed all my surgeon's orders for how and what to eat immediately following surgery. Once I was authorized to start exercise, I started to exercise, mostly walking at first and then adding to that with other types of exercise. I lost my weight within 11 months. Good luck, we hope to hear more from you.

Jbandranger

Well the best advice I got 3 yrs ago is #1 The band is only a tool and not the magic cure all to our issues w/food - #2 This is really about a lifetime lifestyle change in your eating and exercise habits - Diets don't work cuz when you go off them and quit exercising - - you go back to eating normal and sitting on your butt 24/7 - that's what got us fat in the 1st place..

The band once you get proper restriction helps you feel full on a smaller amount of food - but you can eat around it - It sure isn't the easy way out - but it is a great help... It helped me lose 114 lbs - 250 vs 136 - and I was 52 when banded I lost 105 lbs in the 1st yr and the other 9 lbs in the next couple of months - I stopped keeping tabs on my weight loss after the 1st yr.. But I averaged 9 lbs a month - some weeks 2 - some .5 - some 3 - but all that mattered was 1 yrs later I lost 105 lbs

#3 I am a very firm believer in keeping a food diary (I did it for 1 yr) I weighted and measured my food for the 1st 4 months until I knew what 4 oz looked like - I exercised 4-5 days a week that first yr - I now exercise 3-4 days a week - I eat healthy - I never dieted - I eat Protein 1st - then veggies and limited starches - I eat low fat and mostly sf... I eat healthy 98% of the time and allow for treats 2% of the time.. I still eat off a dessert plate & use 1 cup bowls - I don't drink w/meal - Follow your doc's orders to the tee...

I am almost 3 yrs out and I have maintained my weight loss for 2 yrs now - I have never done that before... I feel 10 yrs younger and have 1 mil times more energy - I am finally the person who I was under all that fat....

We are staying at the Escalipur on July 1. It is only 43 and change for 1 king size bed. I can let you know how the rooms are. Look good on line. Only thing I see is it is at the end of the strip away from downtown but close to the airport.

Laura K

Laurak - Let us know - I had a gf stay at Imperial something - it's in the center of the strip - but I read poor reviews - I want clean and a coffee pot ;0)

We will be doing a lot of walking ... as far as meals - in vegas that's no problem - I know of a neat little italtian restaurant right off the stip - $20 for 3 course meal w/wine..

Imperial Palace, never saw the rooms but whenever I have been in the lobby or casino it smelled. I vote against that one. LOL

Well I went and checked out a gym today. 24 hour fitness. It was nice and not real crowded, BUT it's kindda far. it took me 20 min making all the lights coming home, I know 20 min isn't that far but I was hoping to find something closer. The only thing closer is an Anytime Fitness and it doesn't have near the equipment and is just as expensive if not more. I saw at costco awhile back 24 Hour fitness memberships for sale for $299 for 2 yrs that would be a great deal. So not sure.

I sure will give a report on Excalibur. One of my Master Gardener friends is a travel agent she booked it for me. One for the easy parking, it's on a corner and two because it was close to the airport.

Great - that's what I got the Costco 24 hr fitness package - lke $12. a month Plus at 24 hrs classes are included - hell you are retired - it's not like you gotta jam there before or after work ;0)

- 24 hr fitness is where I do my boot camp - I didn't think my workout tuesday was that hard - well - my back muscles sore from push ups and my tush and hamstrings are sore too - so I am getting a work out !!!

my vote 24 hrs fitness.... But I get the closed to home - easier to go.. I'm lucky my gym is like 2 or 3 city blocks - I could walk if it wasn't so hot and the gates issues - i can't get out unless I follow a car ;0) - I could get a key - well maybe this fall..

thank you for the "tips" ... I started a food diary this weekand did notice that although its much less than what I ate Pre-band, and although everything i eat now is "band approved" and healthy, I am still taking in too many calories!!!

Hey guys~ A bit of an update, Dad doesn't have the results of his PET scan yet. His oncologist went on VACATION this week!!! They wanted him to wait until Monday. I was shocked that my dad agreed. Perhaps he isn't really ready for the results?! Everyone is a bundle of nerves around here. My Mom is having back pain and sciatica. (she's had it for a couple weeks but worse the last 4 days). I took her to her dr yesterday. They did xrays and gave her some pain meds and a medrol dose pack and will start some PT. If it's not one thing.... it's another.

We go home in the a.m.! I am ready to go home. I want DH to at least have a couple days to chill before he goes back to work.

Thanks for all the concern and thoughts. Hugs to you all. Will catch up soon!!! peasout.... Laura

Safe travels Laura, sorry to hear your mom is in pain now, but glad you were there to get her to the doctor and get her some meds. As you said, "always something."

Another friend and I will head to Cedar Rapids Sat. a.m. -- we will have a girls weekend -- spend it shopping for my dress for the wedding and then spend the night with a friend who moved there about 3 years ago -- unbelievable that it's only a 1-1/2 hour drive and we haven't seen this friend since last August - time just gets away from us -- we're all busy working. Looking forward to finally shopping and getting my dress for my neice's wedding -- just a month and we'll be in Florida visiting. How fast time flies.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
