Yep I am sending sonic waves your way Apples...

My Mom was from Texas and that why they say I like my veggies well done - don't ask me where that came from I guess most southern pple like well done veggies - I like raw cauliflower w/ranch dressing - but again that dressing ruins (cal wise) the whole thing of eating veggies - just like a salad drenched in dressing - just as many calories as a big mac.. Don't care that much for raw broc..

Eva hope the hanging upside down helps - do you go to chiropractors - I know you have back issues - but can they help you ?

Well I skipped the rice tonite - am full but still want to eat - this is why I don't think I need a fill even though I eat more food than the most of you - I don't care how tight I am I still want to eat.. For me I have to be full mentally just as much as physically - so I don't think being tighter for me would help..

Well I think I am signing off - even with the nap - I am ready for bed - bored more than anything I think ;0) nothing on tv - I think I need new stronger glasses - I am trying to read my O magizine and hell the print is just so small..

Till tomorrow gang - hope Apples & Eva get some rest and releif from their pain - Hugs...

Hello Inio~

I am sure you are mentoring a million peeps right now...but if you have room for one more...I sure do need ya~

My name is Leah and I have jumped thru all the hoops and finally got approved...I have decided to change doctors, and now am just waiting for their seminar which i have to do first, then i get a appt. with the doc, then scheduled for surgery...I am scared...for many reasons, but I guess mostly that I will fail...I really need someone whom I can talk to, be accountable to, maybe send my daily food/exercise logs to, and you were so encouraging...cause I too am a shortie ( 5" 3" and just over 250 lbs)..I am loosing my mind playing the waiting game, but I know God wants me to wait, and do it right, with the right doc...

okay i know im babbling now, but i am just a bundle of emotions right now and cant help it...

anyhoo...just let me know whatcha think

Smooches~

Leah - the more the merrier - of course you are welcome to join our thread - We all are here to help you..

I was the same as you 5'3 250 but I was 52 when banded - heck gf if this old broad can do it so can you..

You just got to get your head into it - We were all scared to begin with this is something new and unknown - will we fail at this like so many other times.

Best advice I can give you is that the band is only a tool - this really is about making a lifetime lifestyle change in your eating and exercise.. You gotta make the commitment to be healthy.

Well, sweetie - I just got on the computer to turn it off - so I am closing for now - got work tomorrow and this old lady needs here rest..

But really I'm not old - I have 100% more energy than I did at 2.5 yrs ago - hell I have more energy than my DS who's 38 and my DIL who's 32 ;0) just pulling your leg on the old issue lol... But do need my beauty sleep... Will chat with you all tomorrow...

Hugs & Love and Leah come back would love to get to know you...

Hell that just reminded me where is Meredith (she's a young one like you Leah)

All I can say is "Thank You"...I feel so afaid right now, hubby isnt supportive, doesnt think I am ready...want to get my head into it, but cant seem to grasp it right now...I am hoping the actual surgery will be the 'turning point"...i have decided i am once again going to log what i eat and when i exercise, to try to help me be accountable while I wait...that is as far as i have gotton ... i mean that is what i have decided to focus on until i hear fromt he doc when his seminar is and then until my appt. with him...

welp i gotta get to bed too, but you sound simply wonderful, and I cant wait to get to know you as well..

Love always,

Witch - Sorry for your struggles - Hugs ...

What did you expect that the band would do...

For some it takes a while for restriction - but first and foremost it's not the magic cure all for our issues w/food - it doesn't make our food choice for us. It's only a tool.

Come tell us what's up - we will try and give you the support you need to be successful.

All I can say is "Thank You"...I feel so afaid right now, hubby isnt supportive, doesnt think I am ready...want to get my head into it, but cant seem to grasp it right now...I am hoping the actual surgery will be the 'turning point"...i have decided i am once again going to log what i eat and when i exercise, to try to help me be accountable while I wait...that is as far as i have gotton ... i mean that is what i have decided to focus on until i hear fromt he doc when his seminar is and then until my appt. with him...

Leah - Has your DH gone to any seminars with you - That helps sometimes - they understand what the band is all about.

You will find that most of us really do feel that food journaling is key - you won't have to do it forever - but its a good learning tool. I kept a food diary for the 1st year - til I got to goal - then I quit - but I do keep a mental note of what I eat.

The only thing you will have do to forever is eat healthy and exercise - We aren't dieting we are eating healthy that's it - we eat lower fat - limited carbs/sugar and we exercise.

Good Morning Gang - just a quick ck in before I hit the shower to get ready for work this morning..

Apples & Eva hope you both got some sleep/releif from your pain last night..

Charlene hope the tummy issues are better

Julie - Hope the shoulder isn't causing you too much trouble.

Well clock hit 5:30 time to jump in the shower..

It's my birthday! I'm 58 and feel 10 years younger. I'm going to walk for the first time in a week. This cold combined with the holidays really knocked me for a loop.

I figured out why bands are tighter and pbing more frequent with a cold. It's all the phlegm you swallow that fills your poor little pouch and doesn't leave room for food. Then when you eat and consequently pb, it gives new meaning to the saying "gettin' slimed!"

Another thing that I think happens when we get sick, is our tissue swells. Think about your throat and your sinuses. That probably happens to your esophagus and pouch. That's why the band feels tight. Everything else is swollen.

Nyquil is my friend! Hopefully last night was my last dose. I probably won't sleep well for at least a night because I'm so used to the Nyquil knocking me for a loop.

Going to Kohl's to spend money. My brother and family are coming out from MI this aft. and eve so all my kids and my sis's family will all be at my moms. Love to see family on my birthday. My kids love my parents and all my bros and sists so they usually cooperate when one of them comes visiting.

Me they take for granted but not my family cause seeing them is infrequent.

So I'll actually be together with my kids on my birthday. LOL. I usually don't even arrange a get together. They just give me my gifts at Christmas.

Happy Birthday Cheri!! Enjoy your day with your kids!

I am awaiting DS to come pick me up to take me to knee therapy. If that goes well and I'm not in too much pain he will take me to costco to get some lobster tails for tomorrow night. I have decided to stay home from the party and just have a quiet night at home and we are going to have lobster. my friend is disappointed but understanding of my knee and my not coming. I'd never make it til midnight anyway but would probably over do it and tire myself out trying. then on our way home from Costco I have 3 huge trash bags of clothes to drop off at Goodwill, gotta get this years tax receipt you know!

Apples & Eva, hope you are both feeling better this morning.

Leah, welcome! I bet that's hard switching docs in the middle of the pre surgery process but better to find out now that you prefer a different one than after surgery.

Witch, kindda hard to help w/o further info. sorry you are struggling and if you care to share more there are many here that would be glad to try and help.

Janet, have a good day back at work after your day off. Sometimes we just need those lazy days at home to recharge.

Happy Birthday Cheri.

I am on my preop diet now and doing well with it. Trying to shrink my liver you know. Down 13 pounds. Hoping to be down 15 by new years but I am cutting it close.I will start liquids on Saturday. My surgery is getting so close. I am less nervous though. I am really sure this is what I need/want to do. I got all the bills straighten out today so hubby doesn't have to fuss with it and I am trying to keep the laundry done because I know I can't reach into the washer machine tub after surgery. I have clean all our rooms in the house down to shampooing the carpet. ( I am also trying to keep busy while school is out). I will have to get to school next week after my surgery and get my books. I don't know how that will pan out. When will I be ready to leave the house? When will I be comfortable enough to get out of pj's and into my jeans? I know I can't drive while on pain meds so my husband will have to take me. Plus I will need help carrying the books. That really is the only task I will have to take care of the first week post op. School starts a week after surgery so I plan on taking my rolling suitcase to carry my books and of course my liquid lunch. I hope the pain will have subsided by then. I always recover quickly from surgery hopefully I will this time too. I hope I haven't forgotten anything.

First off:

HAPPY BIRTHDAY TO YOU

HAPPY BIRTHDAY TO YOU

HAPPY BIRTHDAY, DEAR CHERI

HAPPY BIRTHDAY TO YOU!!!!!!

You've come a long way, Baby! and look fabulous. Enjoy your day with your family. I am so happy that you are so happy about being surrounded by them today.

Secondly I have an announcement to make:

A New Arrival at our House

Time: 3:03 AM

Name: Bouncing Baby Boulder

Weight: Not sure but had fingers

Length of Labor: Close to 48 hours

Momma is resting and doing fine. In fact, ran errands in town, did four loads of laundry, fed the crowd and mopped all the floors. Good to be back to "normal" other than being stiff and pain when I pee.

Eva...hope you are feeling better. I have always been so lucky to never have had back problems. Hope you get some relief soon. I love relief.

Welcome Leah and Witchbabe. This thread is a soft place to fall. Janet is open and honest about her LB journey and does not mince words. Lots of experience bandsters to help you through this. All you have to do is share.

Jewel...you are doing so great. I love the fact that you are preparing yourself physically and mentally for your surgery and after. Way to go, girl! So proud of you.

Janet....hope your day back at work is going good.

Great...sounds like your appts are going great. You are doing amazingly with your recovery. I am in awe of Linda also with how she is doing.

Laurak..."Hi", Laura...hope all is well and you are back home. Meredith...where the heck are you?????? Julie...hope Mimi and you are better. What a good Grandma. Do any of you think I will EVER be a Grandma??????

Sorry but cannot catch up with all of the posts. Just wanted to pop on and let you know our exciting news. Take care and have a great day.

2 days until I fly out to San Diego to have my Bypass Surg. in Tiajuana Mexico. Not gonna lie, the nerves are starting to surface. I don't fear the surgery itself, or the fact that I'm traveling alone, but its the aftermath that I'm stressing about the most, after this 8 week wait. I'm excited to finally be here, but I am really dreading the post surgical chapter. I know its going to be tough, real tough and I think I'm just in my head to much now that the day i here. Wish me luck, Hopefully I'm one of the lucky ones, and everything goes smoothly. Cant wait to give an exciting update,. If there is anyone else have a June bypass or even a recent one, Id love to have someone to compare war stories with. Also, anyone near San Antonio Tx? See ya soon with the future me. 💜

I am new here today... and only two weeks out from my sleeve surgery on the 23rd. I am amazed I have kept my calories down to 467 today so far... that leaves me almost 750 left for dinner and maybe a snack. This is going to be tough for two weeks... but I have to believe I can do it!

Hey everyone. I'm new here so I thought I should introduce myself. I am 53y/o and am scheduled for Gastric Bypass on June 25th, 2025. I'm located in San Antonio, Texas. I will be having my surgery in Tiajuana Mexico. I've wanted this for years, but I always had insurance where bariatric procedures were excluded. Finally I am able to afford to pay out of pocket.  I can't wait to get started, and I hope I'm prepared for the initial period of "hell". I know what I have signed up for, but I'm sure the good to come will out way the temporary period of discomfort and feelings of regret. I'd love to find people to talk to who have been through the same procedure or experience before. So I look forward to meeting you all. Hope you have a great week!

I'm so happy for you! You are about to change your life. I was so glad to get the sleeve done in Dec. I didn't have feelings of regret overall. And I'm down almost 60 lbs. I do feel a little sad at restaurants. I can barely eat half a kid's meal. I get adults meals often because kid ones don't have the same offerings at times. Then I feel obligated to eat on that until it's gone and that can be days. So the restaurant thing isn't great for me. All the rest is fine by me! I love feeling full with very little. I do wish I could drink when eating. And will sip at the end. Just a strong habit to stop. But I'm working on it! You will do fine! Just keep focused on your desire to be different. Not better or worse. But different. I am happy both ways but my low back doesn't like me that heavy. So I listened (also my feet!). LOL! Update us on your journey! I'm not far from you. I'm in Houston. Good luck and I hope it all goes smoothly! Would love to see pics of the town you go to for this. I've never been there. Neat you will be traveling for this! Enjoy the journey. Take it one day at a time. Sometimes a few hours at a time. Follow all recommendations as best you can. 💗

      2. Doughgurl

Thank you so much for your well wishes. I am hoping that everything goes easy for me as well. We don't eat out much as it is, so it wont be too bad in that department. Thankfully. Also, I hear you regarding your back and feet!! I'd like to add knees to the list. Killing me as we speak! I'm only 5' so the weight has to go. Too short to carry all this weight. Menopause really did a doosey on me. (😶lol) My daughter also lives in Houston. with her Husband and my 5 grand-littles. I grew up in Beaumont, so I know Houston well, I will be sure to keep in touch and update you on my journey. I may need some advice in the future, or just motivation. Thank You so much for reaching out, I was hoping to connect with someone in the community. I really appreciate it. 💜

On day 4 of the 2 week liquid pre-op diet. Surgery scheduled for June 11th.
Soooo I am coming to a realization
of something and I'm not sure what to do about it. For years the only thing I've enjoyed is eating. We rarely do anything or go anywhere and if we do it always includes food. Family comes over? Big family dinner! Go camping? Food! Take a short ride or trip? Food! Holiday? Food! Go out of town for a Dr appointment? Food! When we go to a new town we don't look for any attractions, we look for restaurants we haven't been to. Heck, I look forward to getting off work because that means it's almost supper time. Now that I'm drinking these pre-op shakes for breakfast, lunch, and supper I have nothing to look forward to.  And once I have surgery on June 11th it'll be more of the same shakes. Even after pureed stage, soft food stage, and finally regular food stage, it's going to be a drastic change for the rest of my life. I'm giving up the one thing that really brings me joy. Eating. How do you cope with that? What do you do to fill that void? Wow. Now I'm sad.

I hope your surgery on Wednesday goes well. You will be able to do all sorts of new things as you find your new normal after surgery. I don't know this from experience yet, but I am seeing a lot of positive things from people who have had it done. Best of luck!

Life as a big person had limited my life to what I knew I could manage to do each day. That was eat. I hadn't anything else to look forward to. So my eating choices were the best I could dream up. I planned the cooking in managable lots in my head and filled my day with and around it.

Now I have a whole new big, bigger, biggest, best days ever. I am out there with those skinny people doing stuff i could never have dreamt of. Food is now an after thought. It doesn't consume my day. I still enjoy the good home cooked food but I eat smaller portions. I leave food on my plate when I am full. I can no longer hear my mother's voice saying eat it all up, ther are starving children in Africa who would want that!

I still cook for family feasts, I love cooking. I still do holidays but I have changed from the All inclusive drinking and eating everything everyday kind to Self catering accommodation. This gives me the choice of cooking or eating out as I choose. I rarely drink anymore as I usually travel alone now and I feel I need to keep aware of my surroundings.

I don't know at what point my life expanded, was it when I lost 100 pounds? Was it when I left my walking stick at home ? Was it when I said yes to an outing instead of finding an excuse to stay home ? i look back at my last five years and wonder how loosing weight has made such a difference. Be ready to amaze yourself.

BTW, the liquid diet sucks, one more day and you are over the worst. You can do it.
