Has anyone been treated badly by a mate because of there weight ?

Recommended Posts

I had a male friend that would crack fat jokes about meand other people. After, all he said that he was just kidding around.Did'nt he understand I had feelings? But, I would just laugh it off, but deep down it hurt. Sometimes I would go into another room and just cry. He always made me very self conscious of myself.

In my opinion....his behavior is not one a friend would behave like...Unfortunately, our society has made light of the subject of obesity...I think when people are insensitive then it is really their way of covering up their own fear of something..as in gaining weight.

So, let it slide...and if it keeps up get a new friend!

I'd ditch anyone who did that to me and didn't apologize and then never do it again. You don't need to be treated like that!

Honestly, I think that they think we are fat because we want to be!!!! I am like I would like to look like suzy-mc-skinny pants, but then I wouldnt have a soul...lol...and yes I have...not with words but with actions....he didnt say no to going out to eat all the time...his metabolism is better than mine....what to do???

Not to excuse what he did, but I have a close friend at work - she is quite young, 23 (I am 43) so maybe she just hasn't matured yet, but I definately think she is prejudiced against heavy people - I have heard her comment sometimes about getting fat (she is like a size 6) or someone being a slob, etc but I think it might be the way she was raised, without tolerance or compassion against heavy people. I catch her and tell her that it is rude and I take it personally, as I am heavy and she tells me that she doesn't see me like that. I genuinely think that she cares about me and because she loves me, she doesn't consider me like the people she is referring to, but I try to tell her that it is cruel and I'm sure she wouldn't feel so free making fun of handicapped people or blind people, etc so why is it okay to make fun of someone because of their weight. Alot of people just don't get it.

Friends should not make you feel bad about yourself. They provide support. Remember that as you assess your friendship with this person. I wish you the best.

Hi, first off, I hope you don't mind but I moved your thread out of introductions.

Have you sat down and had a heart-to-heart with him and explained how his comments really make you feel. Maybe he truly doesn't have a clue.

Trish, I am glad you said you "had" a friend...You deserve better. Hope you sent him packing.

Like Dr. Phil always says "You have to teach people how to treat youself." If you allow this toxic behavior around yourself then he will feel it's okay. If he is so insensitive that he doesn't realize that this could potentially be hurtful then he is no "friend" that you need.

Life is way to short to allow people to treat you poorly; even if he's just "joking" How is making fun of someone a joke? funny?

I'd dump the loser and find yourself a sweet, open-minded young man who see's you for who you are... a beautiful woman!

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞

I may have to have gall bladder surgery during my weight loss surgery. Not thrilled about it either but do not want 2 recovery times. Just want it over with.

Thanks for your post. I may need to rethink my decision... :(
